I think the BCA just does that anytime a team doesn't interview a minority, but it's still pretty funny. I really want to go on a Texas A&M message board and see what those bonfire-lovin' honkies have to say about that. I bet the lightly veiled racial slurs are some of the best we'd find on the interweb.

devo: This movie is so good that it ruined other movies for me for a while. I've seen 4-5 movies since, on TV or in theaters, and I just can't find myself too compelled by them, even if I know they're really good by all objective standards.

We can't have a bowl committee, though, because otherwise we might be leaving 6 completely deserving C-USA teams out in the cold! Papajohns.com, motherfuckers! I like what the ACC, Pac-10, and Big East worked out with the Gator and Sun Bowls. Over a four-year period (which started last year), the Gator gets to choose 2 Big East teams and 2 Big XII teams. So, you end up with 2 Big East/ACC games, 2 Big East/Pac-10 games, 2 ACC/Big XII games, and 2 Big XII/Pac-10 games. It's a good way to balance leagues having designated bids while keeping some flexibility in the scheduling.

This whole "volume" is a disaster. Started way too slow, finishing up way too fast. There hasn't been any middle. I guess you can blame it on the strike, but I think this set was supposed to be just 11 episodes anyway. Quite the wreck.

In smaller coaching news, long-tenured Sonny Lubick and Jeff Bower are out at Colorado State and Southern Miss, respectively. Also, Arkansas' athletic department is having a press conference on the future of the program tonight, suggesting that Houston Nutt might be gone too.
-
Coaching hires and fires: Mike Sherman is expected in at Texas A&M, and Chan Gailey may be out at Georgia Tech. GT has called a press conference for this afternoon. Duke's Ted Roof is also likely gone, opening up one of the least desirable coaching slots in America. Also, a little odd: there is increasing buzz that Kirk Ferentz has been offered the Michigan job, via mgoblog and a handful of other sources. Lloyd Carr has also apparently been in touch with Grand Valley State to check up on the background of Brian Kelly, their former head coach and current Cincy head coach.

You know, terrible as it is, I actually really like the remake of The Blob, and in fact one of the reasons I agreed to see The Mist was because Jeffrey DeMunn was in it. He was the sheriff in The Blob and in this he was the older guy who came running in with blood on his face yelling about the mist. But, uh, yeah. That says enough about Darabont right there. Approved.

Virginia Tech above LSU...there's something kind of wrong about that, and it rhymes with "48-7." Pretty amazing that all the losses have all but ensured Georgia gets an automatic BCS bid by finishing in the top 4. The same could be true for Kansas should Missouri or (especially) WVU lose. Kansas played a good game last night, but in my opinion they should be no higher than 10th. It'll be very interesting to see what happens should Missouri lose to OU next week. I'd hope the voters would keep them above KU.

I generally agree with the "Deon is an idiot" meme, but this movie was abysmal. Stephen King is a hack, and Frank Darabont isn't much better, Shawshank aside.

Are you kidding me, CBS? UK/Tennessee is 31-28 with UK driving, and you're switching to commercials and the UF/FSU kickoff? Unreal.

The Orgeron is done after three years and an 0-8 SEC season. Thought he would have gotten one more chance, but that was a pretty bad team.

I think you missed my point. The Big East is perfectly fine this year--really, none of the conferences stand out this year--but they'll continue to get dogged publicly and by poll voters who don't actually pay much attention to college football for reasons like the relative disappointments of last year's rising stars (Louisville and Rutgers). By the same measure, I'm not sure what makes the ACC any more "putrid" than any other conference either. Miami's way down, FSU is average, but Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Virginia are up. They're likely to finish with two teams at 10-2 and two at 9-3, not much different than anybody else. Only the Big XII, Big East, and Big Ten have 1-loss teams left, and every conference has plenty of inconsistent 3-5 loss teams (and a good number of ass-horrible teams). 2007 is a season when conference affiliation really doesn't mean a lot.
-
The public stature of the Big East is still pretty low on account of one of their new big-name programs sucking hard this season (Louisville) and South Florida dropping 3 in a row. Still, I agree completely that the White and Slaton show versus anybody would be a lot of fun.
-
That doesn't make sense. Michigan and Florida were both one-loss teams. LSU has two losses, Ohio State one.
-
Impossible. Neither could jump Ohio State.
-
I highly doubt it. In the human polls, Hawaii's been behind most of the 2-loss teams all season, and I don't see that changing.
-
Game of the year. That was awesome. McFadden's gonna be #2 or #1 in the Heisman after that one.

WELLYEAHNAOWBRENTSCHAAFFERHADTHATFOOTBAWWEJUSDINGETYARDS 0-8 in the SEC. That's pretty gross. Meanwhile, it appears CBS heard my typing and flipped the "good HD" switch. LSU looks very tentative in all phases of the game so far. Also, Bill Callahan is going out appropriately, blowing a 35-24 halftime lead by giving up 41 to Colorado in the second half.
-
What the hell, CBS. You've got one game today and you couldn't even send your good HD cameras? Weak.
-
Well, Arizona State sure is getting their shit wrecked. I wonder how negatively this embarrassment is going to affect their chances of getting the BCS at-large bid.

OMG Terminator 4 is definetly going ahead

McG? Really? It's really hard to think of a worse possible choice. -
Did I just hear The Mae Shi used as bumper music on the Lions/Packers game? Weird. Calvin Johnson is thisclose to being a mega-receiver.

Bennett coming back was pretty predictable, considering him taking Mohinder's love-round in the eye didn't end the episode. It clearly would have been the biggest moment of the season. Now that they've covered that, let's hope we never see another Isaac Mendes painting again.

Well, in an ideal world, voters wouldn't be creating their ballots chiefly based on "how can team X pass team Y." That's the same bullshit that keeps teams ranked low in the preseason polls (or not ranked at all) behind teams who may not have as strong a resume of performance. I see no reason to be uncomfortable with the idea that a pollster could watch ASU beat USC, watch WVU beat UConn, and say, "y'know, let me take a look at what Arizona State's actually done this year" and reasonably consider them to have a better rep than WVU to this point. Also, Iggy, re: your Heisman post--good list of candidates. I really hope at least one defensive guy finishes in the top 5 this year, because there are quite a few worthy ones.

Do you have a close relationship with your family?

I'm an only child and my parents are awesome. Can't complain.
