I'd be surprised if it weren't, but I'm picking up that and the new Animal Collective tomorrow. I'll pass word along. In the meantime, enjoy this f'ed-up Animal Collective Edit: OMD! I love their singles. I'm gay for John Hughes synthpop.

Why do people ever refer to Kanye as Kayne? It's not hard to spell. Picked up Graduation today. Great production, like it better than the pre-release reviews so far, and the first half is delightfully jubilant. However, I said the same thing about Neon Bible upon its release as far as initial gut reactions go, and haven't listened to that in 4 months. We'll see.

Totally forgot this was today. I guess the t-shirts didn't work.

Was it Jingus or CoreyLazarus who once boasted about having each of his hands in a different vagina at the same time? I remember this being one of the early "high points" of the LSD folder for me. EDIT: Nevermind. This search engine actually works now and then: And my confusion was explained by this post, appearing directly above it:

Two fantastic YEAH-UHs for the price of one:

That was maybe the worst post I've ever read. I just wish there was a way for Danny Glover to be in more of these.

In this case, I don't think people bought into the Oregon State hype as thought that Cincinnati was a pretty weak opponent, particularly after losing Dantonio to Michigan State. I was more surprised by that result than Middle Tennessee putting up 42 on Louisville. Upon further review, Cincinnati got 31 points off turnovers. Amazing! Oregon State's defense did more than fine, only allowing 229 yards, but the offense and special teams (two fucked-up punts leading to 14 UC points) just self-destructed. Now I wish I'd seen the game.

Haha. We even had almost the same tiebreaker. Come on 10-7 game! The one pick I backed off was Western Michigan over Indiana, so if that happens, officially call me a football vag.

I'm most interested in the Oklahoma/Miami game, so it kind of sucks that I'll be at UVA/Duke for the duration. On that note: if Duke wins, I'm going to kill myself. Start rooting accordingly.

I read Beloved in high school 8 years ago, and that was as recent as we got. If your parents didn't sign a permission slip, you had to read Invisible Man. viva: As much as I like Gaiman and think comics are viable study for college students, you might have a hard time getting your students to take them seriously. I imagine most parents (of 8th and 10th graders both) are gonna be confused when they have to buy their kids a comic for English class. The only thing I thing I would firmly knock on there is Grisham; every bit of my experience with him says that he's a hack writer not worth teaching. I just looked up A Painted House, and since it's a coming-of-age story set in the mid-20th century that appears to deal with themes of race, class, and child's point of view, I don't know why you wouldn't pick the still-wonderful To Kill a Mockingbird, which is pretty much the perfect 8th grader book, to cover those themes and devices. Having Cisneros and a graphic novel on your syllabus is edgy enough for 8th grade.

The 160gb iPod for $349 is unbelievable. I mean, that's seriously awesome. Even I couldn't fill that thing up. If I hadn't bought a really nice case for my two-year-old one at the beginning of this year, I'd be upgrading. Disappointed that there was no new news about Leopard. I'm terrified it's going to destroy my 4G Powerbook.

Oh boy, how I love me some mindless Bush cheerleading! Please try to pay attention here, Eric. And yet despite all that you still think we did a good thing going there? That's the really mindless part.

Even granting that (I don't entirely agree--Maliki and co. are just as corrupt and incompetent, so you're talking a step or two up at best), it's a clear case of the ends hardly justifying the means. Everything you've listed--the terrible occupation, the miserable misallocation of our troops, the constant grandstanding and complete disregard for the lives of Iraqi civilians--makes it absolutely not worth it. All we've done is kill or displace hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, completely destroy the country's infrastructure and absolutely fail to redevelop it (a stupid goal in the first place--neither Germany nor Japan had democracies for many, many years after the end of WW2 and this was an infinitely more fragile situation), and get thousands of American soldiers killed with several thousands more maimed or psychologically crippled. Oh, and we've spent what, several trillion dollars for the privilege of doing all this? The best thing that can be said about this monstrous mess is that America has probably accelerated the inevitable Iraqi civil war. It has been an absolute farce.

I forgot that Chuck Amato as one of FSU's assistant coaches now. It was a thrill to see him and his ample breasts again.

The Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale is fine as far as those go, but I don't think I've ever really had a pumpkin ale that I've loved.

So who were your favorite character(s) to play in Mortal Kombat?
Edwin MacPhisto replied to CBright7831's topic in Video Games
Kung Lao won my heart when MK2 came out for SNES. The notion of a razor-bladed hat was brilliant to my 10-year-old self. -
I scored 4 times as many points as the actual Virginia team. Nice work, Coach Groh!

I know UAB is terrible this year, but 42 points in 21 minutes is absolutely obscene.

Graduation, or the mixtape?

I agree that the SEC appears to have this year's most talented crop of teams top to bottom, but the ACC and Big XII both placed 8 teams in bowls last year, and the Big Ten placed 7. The Big XII even had a 9th bowl eligible team in Kansas. Not sure the number of bowl bids is really a distinguishing factor between the conferences at this point, considering how many teams can get up to six wins just beating on the conference bottom feeders, Sun Belt teams, and I-AA schools.

That's a strangely aggressive grocery store you've got there.

I gave in and bought a Wii with this. It's awesome. What exactly are you guys referring to on the control scheme? I switched to Advanced and accepted whatever automatic option it included, so I'm on completely free aim. Did you guys pick Advanced, but with the auto-aim on? The controls are excellent overall. I'm only on the first planet, but I love the level design and the visor HUD (I've never played either of the previous Primes for more than 20 minutes). Circle-strafing when you're locked onto a target is tough--I've got to condition myself to keep holding down the Z trigger rather than just tapping it--but really cool when it works right.

I liked Moby Dick as far as I can remember. We spent most of a quarter in AP Lit on it, many moons ago. I kind of like stuff that goes on and on about minutiae in the midst of some really amazing writing (see: Dickens' Our Mutual Friend). Melville's not bad at all, though ultimately I've never been able to get into most of the renowned 19th century American authors with any sort of impressive passion.

So excited. All reason has gone out the window, and I'm drooling at even getting to see LSU fire things up against crappy Sylvester Croom and Co. tonight. By mid-day Saturday, I'm going to be a pile of drool and delight.
