    2007 NBA Draft Thread

Whoa, the Bobcats got Jason Richardson? For the #8 pick? That's awesome. They're starting to act like a real team! Next they might even go out and sign a free agent.

So are the Blazers going to play Francis at all, or just buy him out and clear the cap space?

    2007 NBA Draft Thread

Haha. Maybe they can get Reyshawn Terry later and trade for McCants or Marvin Williams to finish the dream.

Interesting trade. After getting West, I wonder if Seattle will go through with the Ridnour trade and grab Atlanta's #11 too to go with Durant and Green.

    NBA Roundtable Discussion

If they couldn't win it all with that line-up, even if they had to swap Thomas out for Diaw in the starting 5, they never will. I love Amare and he could be a superstar till 2015, but if the Suns want to win now, it does make more sense to keep Marion, as he's a more complete player. That team wouldn't be built for more than 2 years as its guys would get older and the strain on the cap would get increasingly absurd, but it's a pretty good risk for a franchise that has never won a title.

    iPhone and iPod

Marv, the iPhone's main purpose isn't to be just a phone. The killer app is the fusion of a (supposed) fully-usable internet browser, a fully operational iPod, and a phone all in one. It's a hip, super-styled Blackberry with superior internet functionality that also has enough storage space and the iPod software necessary to accommodate most people's music libraries. Instead of taking your Blackberry and iPod to work, now you take your iPhone, and for most people it has features that can make it better than either of them. I agree that some of the decisions in the execution are questionable (only web-based apps, for example), but this thing is going to be huge and loved by piles of people for all those reasons. Plus, what the hell phone service do you have that gives you 1300 minutes for $35? Some local provider that only works in Maryland? Verizon, Alltel, Cingular, T-Mobile...all the major national carriers give you about 450-600 minutes for $40. The iPhone data and phone plans are more or less comparable to the market.

hahahaha, oh shit. Totally worth my only post in this forum in like 5 years.

    NBA Roundtable Discussion

It's Sam Smith so take it for what it's worth. I'd like to see the Wolves get one young player like Al Jefferson. I doubt this will happen, but I'd like it. KG without losing Amare...well, that's just absurd (even if Marion is probably an all-around better player than Amare at this stage of his career). It's a weird deal for Minnesota, because it more clearly sacrifices next year than any trade I can remember, but it basically would mean that they'd have three 1st-round picks this year, two in '08, and $20 million coming off the books to take any free agent they wanted after this season. Still, it doesn't help eliminate their glut of lousy mid-level contracts--if they could dump at least, say, Marko Jaric or Troy Hudson on somebody (or one to Phoenix, one to Boston?), it would be very hard to pass up. Not sure how you sell tickets to the Ricky Davis, Trenton Hassell, and Corey Brewer show, though.

HAHAHA... My ex-fiancee is in jail on a felony charge!

It comes in waves. Glorious, oiled-up Swayze waves. Looking at a few pages of that thread, we really were all on point. It was like batting practice, with tennis balls and metal bats.

    The Office, Season 3

I don't think that was ever a firm rule. It's just the generally accepted threshold for when a show entering syndication will probably be successful. Among others, House and Desperate Housewives have been in syndication for a while.

Regaled a few of us with the story while we ate lunch in front of the National Archives yesterday. I've been saving it up ever since.

I unabashedly love White Blood Cells, no equivocation. Elephant was decent but I never revisit it, and I've barely heard anything off the last album or this new one. And I never bothered to check out the first two albums either. I'm actually incredibly not familiar with the majority of their work, I guess.

    I'm using my 8000th post

This took place two years ago at Foxfield, a UVA tradition wherein about 5,000 20somethings go stand in a field wearing sundresses and seersucker, drink, and nominally watch shitty horse races. Even though I went to UVA I've only been twice, and the blowee in question was a Georgetown grad I didn't know until I started this job a year ago. He was drunk, she was drunker, and she mouthified his wang quite emphatically in one of many adjacent port-o-johns, apparently separated only by the thin plastic door from a line about 15 people deep, all waiting for their own chance to excrete from one or more orifices. There love was brief, and he never saw her again. This encounter was blumpkin-free, but the toilet itself had quite a build-up already waiting there to set the scene. I like to think that she'll remember this someday, as she's giving birth to her first child.

    Bring Damaramu Back

Dama was a special case. Baiting him was unavoidable, because "baiting him" meant engaging in any sort of discussion that mentioned the Big 12, or USC, or LSU, or anyone Oklahoma had played or was compared to or got a transfer from or was ranked below in the polls, or the Heisman, or anything that could tangentially be connected to Oklahoma or whatever he just saw someone on ESPN say 30 minutes earlier. Losing battle.

    Bring Damaramu Back

No way, unless we follow the Bored Ultimatum and keep him out of all college football threads. Dama is the only internet presence that's ever inspired me to PM a mod and beg for a mercy killing.

    Knocked Up

It's pretty great. The movie's much better, funnier, and deeper than the premise alone. For what it's worth, it certainly doesn't feel like a two-hour movie. Nor did Hot Fuzz, on a slight digression. Guess it's a good year for long comedies.

That marks one of the rare cases that someone lists a genre or something on here and it totally goes over my head. Whoa.

    Where does Kobe Go?

Dude, you're not going to get Kevin freaking Garnett without giving up a starter. A rookie, a decent young player, and garbage is an absurd deal. You're telling me you wouldn't be happy with Rondo, Pierce, Garnett, Wally, West, Gomes, and some scrubs? That's a solid Eastern Conference playoff team easily if Doc Rivers doesn't shit all over himself (a stretch, I know).

Is your dislike for a artist due to them or their fans?

Shitty fans tend to like shitty music, so I don't worry too much about the distinction.

    HDTV

Coincidentally, that is the TV I think I'm going to buy when I move within the next month. I just don't think I can justify a PS3 at this point, since it's mostly a gameless paperweight for the time being.
  25. Edwin MacPhisto

    HDTV

That's pretty good, true, but you can get that TV for $1630 shipped on Amazon. Still a very good deal (especially if you like picking up your big purchases and not having them shipped), but if you don't actually want the PS3, it's less of a bargain.
