Haha. I was really hoping the guys in the ambulance would ghost ride their whip.

I love the super-enthusiastic toothbrush ad that played before that clip. I was talking with a few of my coworkers over there on Skype this morning. Apparently the Embassy in Baghdad got hit with an unusual amount of direct mortar fire Thursday and Friday, but the ones that actually struck the compound were duds. Lucky guys. Have you all heard about the mortar fire? It's fascinating. Insurgents have time to lob up one salvo of mortars into the IZ, and then get almost immediately waxed by the troops and/or personal security details, once they reveal their positions. And they just keep doing it, every day. What a weird place.

I'd argue that the role of Tommy is actually what's informed the perception of who Pesci is, not the other way around. Very little he did before that, maybe with the exception of Lethal Weapon 2 (and that's a stretch), touched on similar ground. Casino, My Cousin Vinny, the luminous 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag--all that came long after Tommy. You definitely got the contentious statement thing going on this one, though. EDIT: Goddamn thunder-stealing Incandenza, with his quick fingers.

No, this is the other guy, the one who makes ridiculous protein and fruit shakes, and also apparently fills his girlfriend's bottom with majesty. She wears very tight spandex pants too, so I'm going to have a hard time not looking for evidence of backdoor savagery next time she's walking around. As to the avatar, that's what I get for not using photobucket on that one. An emergency stand-in is on the way, though separation anxiety will be rough after 3-odd years. -
This guy screams Czech avatar:

This was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread. I pulled that off when I was, like, 6, and amazed myself. I also bought the big awkward add-on for the Game Gear that let you play SMS games on that. Good concept, since they seemed a bit less terrible on the handheld system, but hilarious for how much bigger it made the actual unit.

I was gonna make a joke in the vein of "Their books aren't in 1080p," but thought better of it. Know my shame, presented before thee. Borders isn't as cozy as Barnes & Noble as a general rule, but they have some excellent 3-for-2 deals on books you'd actually want to read.

I'm just excited by the possibility of some of the emphasis of action moving out of LA. Very disappointed to see that, so far, we're looking at Jack in California with CTU support again. Siddig the actor and Asad the character are already exceptionally strong presences, though, so I could definitely see him being a sort of anchor if his story makes it over there. Oh, and I do like that Wayne's in DC, instead of the numerous instances the show took to shoehorn Palmer and pals into the greater Los Angeles area over the years.
-
If forced to wager, I'd say he gets to DC. And a "visitor" does too. I want Jack holding it down on the west coast and Assad going Bauer-style in the name of peace on the east.

I just ordered the two recently reissued Wrens albums, Secaucus and Silver. Never heard the latter, but the former is one of my favorites. Do you kids listen to the Wrens? Cause you should, especially Secaucus.

Stars' "Celebration Guns" is probably my favorite bit out of the Broken Social Scene spinoff groups, despite it being totally overblown and preachy. What's wrong with me.

This line-up doesn't pique my "ooh, maybe I should look for airfares" radar like past Coachellas have. Between the top three headliners, Jarvis, and DJ Shadow, I'd do Friday, but most of the bands on there that I like I've already seen live once or more. I'm getting old.

What are your thoughts on "This Modern Love"? That's one of my favorite under-rated songs from Silent Alarm. I like it, though the vocals hopping from left channel to right channel and back at the beginning is more gimmicky than anything else. It's definitely a reprieve from a lot of the album's sturm und drang, still upbeat but not as clobberin' as some of the tracks. Not sure it qualifies as underrated, though; Allmusic marks it as one of their notable tracks and I seem to remember all the usual suspects (Pitchfork, Stylus, etc.) going ape over it when the album came out. Also, whenever it starts, I always think it's Interpol's "Roland," because the intros are about a half-note away from being identical.

Very hard to believe.

Okay, yeah, did not see that coming at all. I really like Peter MacNicol's character, Lennox. So far he's been played as a really nice balance between blowhard and genuine respectable guy with love for the office. 24 goes way overboard on its characterizations a lot but he's being played in the middle and I like that.

Christopher Eccleston! Nice!

I like Silent Alarm a lot. It's tough to get through in one listen because it really bludgeons you flatly at points, but like Banky I've really gotten back into it in the last month or so. I manage to sneak "Little Thoughts" onto a lot of mix discs. I'm looking forward to hearing the new one after reading a particularly good interview with the lead singer in The Guardian.

It would perhaps be cruel to tell you what shirt I'm wearing at this very moment. Therefore, I won't. I like some of the designs a whole lot, some less so. The fit's great on all their stuff, though.

THAT WAS CLUTCH BABY What a fantastic, fantastic game. From blowout to comeback to another comeback to an almost comeback. Big big thumbs up.
-
Indy's kickoff coverage team needs to get together. If the Colts lose, that's the biggest reason why.

Listening to Houses of the Holy right now. I'm really only familiar with II, III, IV,, this, and some assorted parts of Physical Graffiti. This is probably my favorite, but III is awfully close. However, I haven't listened to IV in years, so maybe I'll have the same post-"Stairway" isolation experience as Incandenza.

People still use the word mulatto? In any case, yeah, his dad was from Kenya and his mom was from Kansas. A romantic comedy should be in the works.

I listened to VU & Nico a ton during the summer. "Sunday Morning" and "Waiting for the Man" trick me every time. I also listen to Exile on Main St. mostly in the summer, I think. That's an album that just stays in the CD player in my car for a month or two at a time.
-
Haha. I don't think you should watch movies.

You know, I loved last night's episodes and all, but I really wish they had done one simple thing--kept Roger Cross (Curtis) in the regular cast, where he was last year. With him being just a guest star, I kind of anticipated something bad might happen. Didn't think it would be that bad, but still. I guess that's all contractual negotiations.
