Habs fans would know, but Saku Koivu has the worst luck ever. Every season there's something wrong with him (would have had the Calder trophy if not injured; numerous knee and wrist injuries; cancer). Though the guy plays with tons of passion and thats why I think he's a great player.

The east would have hammered them senseless, especially Phili and Boston. Also the Eastern Conference was a tighter game and perfection was necessary. When you have four-six strong teams in a conference (Phili, Boston, NYI, Montreal) that matched you skill wise and toughness 20-30 games a season, your not going to registar the same amount of points as you are in the Western Conference. Mind you you'd see some really exciting Habs-Oilers games then too.

He was talented yes, but c'mon, the West was complete shit. Vancouver, St. Louis, Chicago were mediocore teams. Minnesota, Winnipeg and L.A. were sub-par and you have the horrendous Maple Leafs and the Dead Wings. Greztky wouldn't have 2000 points if he played for Buffalo or Montreal.

What I'll say about Gretzky is this. If Wayne was on an Eastern conference team he would not have as many points and would not have played as long as he did. The fact is, the Western Conference in the 80's was shit. Calgary was the only other competition in the Conference, other than that you have a lot of Junior B teams there.
