    Hunger4Unger Speaks

Shit, I'm liberal and some people consider me fairly annoying. You don't see me gone yet, do you? If that were the case, Tyler would have been banned a long time ago Suck me, fatass.

Your favourite way to enjoy a film

Naked, with a naked hottie on my lap. Then again, that is my favorite way to enjoy anything. -=Mike I agree with Mike, for once.

    Tenet resigns!

I thought the same thing about Tenet (i.e. that he's incompetent, etc.) until I read the Clarke book. Now, I'm convinced he's just a fall guy for a few failed intelligence operations. From the way Clarke characterized him, he was a pit bull against terrorism who was often struck down by his superiors as being too aggressive. He should be missed.

    More Left Wing LIES

In response to the Kerry=uncharismatic moron not taking advantage, etc... He's notoriously a great closer and he is currently spending very little money. On the contrary, Bush is spending metric assloads and gaining little or none in the polls. Don't discount him yet---at least until he starts burning money. You'd be shocked how much good GOTV does when you spend your millions on that instead of advertising and random pointless appearances months before the election.

    I guess this is more

He lost Iowa because of the caucus system. He had an army of volunteers who didn't know how to caucus at all, and after the caucus (which was a spectacular blunder), the scream buried him. Contrary to the conservative view of the collapse (which is pretty much dumb, as displayed by: Quite simply, Kerry's people knew how to caucus. Dean's didn't. And then the scream ruined his shit.

    Jack Bauer Jumping the Shark

First episode, where she talked about having his jacket. For some reason, I think that'll eventually come up again (i.e. next season). I've heard a rumor that Jack will have a love interest next season (can't remember where, so don't quote me), and I wouldn't be surprised if it's her.

While I'd disagree that Clinton was the only one who had a hand in this, his faction certainly played into it.

Why are gas prices so high?

I'm not arguing we should tax the fuck out of gasoline. You misunderstood the point I was arguing completely. His premise--which is, of course, the basic Econ 0101 principle--is that prices will go down as demand shifts downward due to the higher prices. Except the problem is that this simply isn't happening. We're not using less gas, and few people actually see the need to buy a more fuel efficient car. Would taxing gas help? Of course not, it would just be shifting more of the burden onto the consumer. But saying "it'll level out, don't worry!" and ignoring the problem isn't going to solve anything, either. So, how do we fix the problem? Offer a solution. Mass transit, alternative fuels, etc. Let's face it, we don't have a viable alternative to gridlock in our society these days. Sure, we have subways and buses already in place; however, as you wouldn't know (given the fact that you're driven to work every day anyways) is that these modes of transportation are already busting at the seams, and to jam on another, oh... let's say 20,000 people a day would be utterly impossible. Our current infrastructure is insufficient to support any potential rise in usage of mass transportation due to rising gas prices. So, what's the solution? Let's stay out of it and let the market level itself out!!!!!

Why are gas prices so high?

I wasn't arguing the laffer curve. I was arguing the fact that letting prices get as high as they please is the solution to the problem. It would be if there were a replacement for gasoline. There isn't. Thus, the price of gas isn't going to go down simply because the price gets "too high" and people stop consuming it, as is the case with most products. On the other hand, are you arguing that people will simply stop driving because the price of gas rose to over $3.00 a gallon?

    Today's Question

    They indict him.
  16. Dr. Tyler; Captain America

Why are gas prices so high?

If we raised gas taxes, which raises the price consumers pay, they will consume less. Would the increase in price offset the decrease in demand? What if our prices were at European levels with their taxes? Laffer curves do exist. I'm not entirely certain government intervention is the best recourse. The best cure for high prices...is high prices. Bullshit. There's no price, no matter how high, that people will stop consuming gas. That's the problem; it's a necessary good. Would diabetics stop buying insulin because it got too expensive? Of course not.

Yes, particularly in the case of judicial appointments and leadership in commitees.

If there was actually an opposition party, sure. I'd dump them in a second. But there's not. My beliefs--although they're different than that of the party--are closer to the Democrats than they are to the Republicans. Thus, my agenda has more of chance--even if it's just slightly more--of being enacted by the Democrats.

The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread

I don't think it was supposed to be a cliffhanger at all. It just seems like through these last few years, and especially this season, Jack has had a sort of superhuman aspect around him. He does some crazy shit that most people could never consider doing, and this time it caught up to him. I mean, for Chrissakes, he became an addict, shot one of his best friends (and collegues), and chopped off an innocent kid's arm--a kid who is probably going to marry his daughter. It just caught up to him, and that chillingly human moment at the end gave the season a beautiful cap.

But I'd still rather have the moron wearing a (D) on his collar instead of an ®. That way, y'know, we control the Congress and all if we have more (D)'s and shit. This, as you know from your political science knowledge (which you often bash me about, but in this case, I'm pretty sure I'm correct), determines which party the speaker of the house and etc. comes from, and with this comes muchos influencos. So like, if the Republicans lost control of the Senate due to your incessant bitching that the aforementioned moderates change parties (or something... I'm tired, don't hurt me), your conservative agenda would be tended to even less than you percieve it to be now. So, I don't really get why you want them to change to a big (I). I'd tolerate them and keep control of the Congress, myself.

    What is your dream job?

Either... NFL Long Snapper (300k/year to play like, five snaps a game) or.. United States Senator (250k/year (I believe) plus massive perks to vote on and perhaps occasionally write legislation. Oh yeah, and your job is basically to bitch. A lot.)

    Top Republicans mock McCain

Strategically, it would make little sense for him to declare as an independant. Although, if your will was done, you'd be losing four seats in the Senate for the Republicans. So, by all means, let's hope it happens. I'm glad that you're so supportive of moderates within your own party.

Problems with Windows '98 Media Sound?

There's also a chance that your sound card doesn't allow you to play sounds from two different sources (e.g., Winamp and AIM) at the same time. That's an old Win98 problem I used to have.
