Anyone who hasn't read Solzhenitzyn's The Gulag Archipelago: Volume One, 1918-1956 is really missing out on some fascinating historical material. I, for one, find the Russian Revolution and particularly Stalin's reign as one of the most fascinating periods in history, period, and hearing a firsthand account of the prison system and its horrors really makes you do a double take whenever you hear someone call Hitler the worst dictator of all time. I haven't been able to completely get through it yet (the first volume alone is over 600 pages), but I plan on getting through the whole thing (plus the second volume, if I can find it) by the end of the year.

Suggest a game for me to get on the PC....
Dr. Tyler; Captain America replied to Garth's topic in Video Games
If you're looking for an FPS in the mold of Counter-Strike, but with more depth and a larger scope, you might want to try something like Battlefield 2. Co-sign. Get it with the expansions. But, you'd better have quite the rig or you won't be able to really run it. -
Leena is what, 6'2" 160#? Someone want to do the radio math on that one?

Well, you see what happens when you put a left-wing guy in the driver's seat. He builds for the future, instead of worrying about his re-election chances

Oh man, I broke this game. I had to stop playing because it's too easy. I basically took the Penguins updated roster (with Crosby) and traded EVERYBODY except Whitney, Sid, Fleury, Tomas Surovy, and Konstantin Koltsov. I ended up with something like 6 1st rounders and drafted all "A" potential players. I simmed two seasons, got two #1 overalls, and did nothing but upgrade my minor league and head coaches. Now, four years down the line (year three was a mild success, got to the second round as the 8 seed in the east, but lost to the Devils), my team is rated 99 across the board, Crosby won the Art Ross in a landslide with something absurd like 160 points, and half of my players are rated over 90. It's getting utterly sick, because I typically use the sim option until halfway through the 3rd period in order to get the upgrade $$$, and I'm rarely losing when I take over. The one time I was, I was down 4-1 and rattled off five goals to win 6-4 (two by Crosby, one by this sick offensive defenseman I drafted, and one by ERIC BOGUNECKI, who is pretty good in year four for whatever reason, then an empty netter). I still play, but for whatever reason, it's too easy for me. I have no desire to win the cup now!

With the 64th pick in the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select... OLB/S Jon Alston of Stanford University A complete headhunter who has a remarkable gift for finding the ballcarrier, Alston might have gotten lost in the shuffle of this draft because of his lack of ideal size for either a 4-3 or 3-4 outside linebacker. While he could certainly try to pack on a few pounds, I think it is more likely that the Steelers will address their need for a FS to replace Chris Hope by converting Alston to center-field (ala Michael Boulware). When considered as a S prospect, Alston's measurables are simply remarkable. At the combine, he had a staggering KEI of 81.00 (anything over 70 is considered outstanding) and combines a 4.40 40 time with remarkable strength (30 reps of 225 pounds on bench -- compare that to AJ Hawk's 24 reps -- beats all but one LB prospect, yet alone DB prospects), good agility (4.14 short shuttle, which is respectable and beats most S prospects that tested), and a 40" vertical jump. The guy is the definition of playmaker. On the downside, he tends to get caught up in the wash as a 220 pound OLB, and might never be effective in the pro game at that position. Fortunately, he won't have that problem at FS. The fun thing for Steelers fans to envision is that, if he drilled with the safeties in the combine, this guy has the coverage skills and physical tools to be a mid-1st round pick. Put him with another remarkable playmaker like Troy Polamalu, and just salivate at the results. He will be a great pick-up for any team that looks at his resume and thinks "safety".

I'll do it, but I won't be available Friday evening through Saturday Afternoon. Still, since my pick is last....

Interestingly enough, Tamba Hali falling this far might actually happen. From what I've heard about his pre-draft workouts, he's been dreadful.

My apologies. I lost the internet over the last two weeks and was unable to get online. Moss is an okay pick, although I don't know how true it'll turn out.

I need help with my IPod Video...
Dr. Tyler; Captain America replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in Technology
It's got to be in mp4 format. Just add it to iTunes like anything else. -
Could be your hard drive overheating, could be a fan failure. Could be that the heatsink isn't cooling the processor well enough. There's no way we can tell by you just describing to us what the sound is like, so I'd look into those things.

The whole doctor-patient thing about the boyfriend bothers me. I wouldn't be shocked if he's a plant by Henderson, but then again, either way, he's a scumbag. Eerie episode.

I think The Boston Strangler cheated at Kitten Cannon. -
Really, if I were you, I'd just play around inside of your current computer and figure out how to do it yourself. It saves a lot of money, and self-builds are extremely upgradeable. But, if you trust the wholesaler, go for it. Check prices there against Newegg and Tigerdirect before you trust them, though.
