Election 2004
Dr. Tyler; Captain America replied to Your Paragon of Virtue's topic in Current Events
Based on polling, Kerry would annihilate Bush in the electoral college. Trust me, I've been watching them come in for months now. If you don't believe me, you can look at PollingReport.com. It really, truly would be a landslide, even if the useless national "trial heat" polls have it as Kerry 50-Bush 47 -

Of course, that's the incumbency advantage. Bush, however, seems to have neutralized that through factors that may or may not be his fault (e.g ineffective advertising) and factors that are completely out of his control (e.g. bad economic news, terrorism threats). He is currently in bad position, and until he brings down his negatives, he's going to have a tough time even competing in this election. If it were held today, Kerry would win in a landslide. And before you jump all over me for saying that, I firmly believe that he'll eventually get them up enough to make this election nauseatingly close. However, the question is whether or not he'll be able to do that without spending all of his money. -

Bull. Kerry's warchest is at least 3/4 of what Bush's is, and he has more than enough to spend like crazy. He's not, and now he has more cash-on-hand than the President. It's how he wins elections; he did it to Dean, he did it to Edwards, and now he's going to do it to Bush. -

By "campaigning" I mean throwing out ads even at the rate Bush is and trying to get his message out; he's not. He's trying to get name ID at most, but he's not saying anything remotely controversial or of substance. He's also spending very little money, whereas Bush is spending like a drunken sailor to keep his negatives from going down too much. Don't fool yourself here; Bush has done everything he can to bring himself down as of late. He's in perilous position when it comes to his negatives; even his personal approval ratings have been slipping. In the swing states, his approval ratings are in the low 40's, and that's dangerous territory for an incumbent. -
Election 2004

That's because he isn't campaigning. He's trying to let Bush lose it for himself. Kerry is, historically, a great finisher. Don't be surprised if this one's as close as 2000, though. -
Truthfully, the "hatred" mantra that has been brought up recently is a bit overblown. I don't disagree that there is a supreme dislike for Bush by the left, but it seems to me that it's more the "priveledged son out of touch with the rest of America" tripe that comes up every time a person born into wealth is elected (the exception being Kennedy, because he was, y'know, that damned sexy). It may have been escalated by the fact that many of the loonies got a blog (and thus, a voice) and a chance to spout their nonsense, but nonetheless, that isn't the case with most Americans. What DOES baffle me about you, Mike, is how readily willing you are to label fringe extremists as the "norm" on the left. They don't represent even 5% of real America, perhaps 10% of the broader "left", and you're making it sound like they represent the whole lot of us. I strongly believe that your post here applies in large part to that dangerous 10% (including both sides of the spectrum). Both sides have their attack dogs and their willingness to use violence to achieve their ends, and races like this polarize those radicals even more. The 10%, no doubt, must be contained. But the situation isn't as dire as you think. Don't be fooled into thinking that rhetoric is anything more than that; the hatred doesn't lie as deeply with most people as it seems.

Yeah dude... on the harder levels (i.e. Kerry v. Nixon), it's IMPOSSIBLE. He lowers my negatives so fast, I don't have time to fundraise and control the damage at the same time. -
Wow, I didn't realize that someone gheys up EVERY post in HD until recently.

As per Jobber's guilting, I went out and actually bought the game this morning and have been playing it the entire morn/afternoon. I think what you have to do is go back through campaign mode and start another campaign with Edwards... and your next opponent is Ahnold, by the way. -

Just out of curiosity, how do you know his boyfriend wasn't qualified? I find it hard to believe that he's not at least, say, as qualified as Ashcroft is to be AG. -
