    This Week in Baseball

Eh, Chris Gomez I'll give you since he kind of looks like a 12 year-old with a goatee. Catalanotto a little, too, I guess, but I never got a 'funny looking' vibe from Wells or Hinske or anyone else on the team, really. Not since Billy Koch left, anyway.

It's of the last 25 years. All these ESPN lists are.

    The Keltner List

It's funny, Rocky Biddle's actually been pretty good in his 3 starts so far for the Expos. I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off, but they haven't yet. And, like Al said, there's no way that Gagne is an 'obvious lock'. As good as he's been, no one's going into the Hall after only 3 years at the top of their game.

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

So, it was such a big hit that they took a run away from the Phillies? And I may be a bit biased, but there are 42 moments that are bigger than this? Give me a break.

    Worst one-game announcing performance

I'll take Tim McCarver over John Cerutti any day of the week. Sort of on-topic, after the '94 Olympic Gold Medal hockey game that Canada lost in a shootout, Rod Black said this to Todd Hlushko (or at least along these lines): "You promised your dying father that you would bring him back a gold medal. You didn't. He is now dead. How does that make you feel?" That was real nice.

I've always noticed that SkyDome sounds quieter on other team's broadcasts. SportsNet must mic the crowd more, I guess.

Fuck, I wanted him to play in the Olympics.

    The "Fire Terry Francona" Thread

And yet you're using all his stats from six years AND BEYOND. And you seem to be ignoring the fact that Timlin was pretty much lights out up to that point in the playoffs. Really, your un-natural hatred of Mike Timlin should preclude you from this argument.

    Cigarettes.

There was this hilarious bit on the Daily Show a few months back where Stephen Colbert talked to some woman who considered herself the Martin Luther King of smokers, fighting for civil rights and all that stuff. But yeah, I've always thought smoking was a rather dumb thing to do, especially for younger people who have the benefit of knowing that it's not healthy, something that people 50 years ago were unaware of. I'm going to have a negative viewpoint on the matter, though, since the only 2 family members that I was close with who have died, died because of smoking.
  12. That's pretty good, except for the nerd thing (well, I hope, anyway) and the posters.
  13. This is kind of cool, I'm in.

3 Guys You'd Pay to see Run out of Town

It's this thing called aging. Not everyone is Barry Bonds and gets better with age. Most deteriorate, just as Jason's doing. It's only natural. Yeah, but he's only 33, he shouldn't be on the downside yet, and the dropoff shouldn't be so immediate. Prime is 28-32. At 33 you start to decline.

3 Guys You'd Pay to see Run out of Town

-Chris Woodward -Justin Speier -Carlos Delagdo* Woodward's lost his job as the starting SS the past 2 years (Bordick last year, Gomez this year) and the team has a few good middle infield prospects on the way up. Speier isn't needed this year and could probably net a mid-level prospect from a team looking for some bullpen help, there are guys in the minors that can do his job for the rest of the year. Delgado is a special case, as I'd like to see the team get something for him since he's most likely leaving after this season, but he won't waive his no-trade clause (which is understandable and I don't hold it aganist him).

The Blue Jays traded Terry Adams to Boston for John Hattig. I don't know much about Hattig, but Toronto didn't need Adams so this trade's fine by me.

    Red Sox-Yankees Series

Motherfucker, my cable company cut in to simulcast COPS right after Nixon's at-bat, so I missed the ending.

Pat Hentgen retired today. It would have be nice if he had gone out on a higher note as opposed to the whipping the Yankees gave him the other day, but he had a good career nonetheless.

Should Nicholas Gill carry Canada's flag?

I'm pretty sure he's 'only' won a silver and a bronze, so I'd prefer it went to someone who's been at the very top of their sport. I would have let Daniel Igali carry it, since you know he loves the country and has won an Olympic gold, so it makes for a better story (poor African imigrant and all that stuff). I could care less about his politics, I'd just rather it went to a more deserving athlete.

If it is shut down, would they have to play at Comiskey? That'd be pretty funny.

    Your teams 3 untouchable players

I thought about putting Rios on my list, but the Jays have a bunch of good outfield prospects that they might trade him if the right offer came along. They're obviously not going to give him away and I'd rather they didn't move him, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was eventually dealt away. And if David Bush keeps pitching the way he is, he's not going anywhere for a while.

    This Week in Baseball

For some reason, the Yankees/Blue Jays game isn't available on TV here (outside of PPV, which I'm not sure is even available in my area, and I don't have PPV capabilities anyway, so it doesn't matter). SportsNet will sometimes pick up the YES feed for a Yankees afternoon game, but I guess pool is more important (TSN is showing bowling).

    This Week in Baseball

Yeah, I had a feeling something special was going to happen since there were a few very nice defensive plays that kept the A's from getting a hit, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Still need a run to at least get him the win, though.

    This Week in Baseball

David Bush is pitching a no-hitter through 7 in Oakland (saved by a NICE play on a low line drive by Orlando Hudson on the 3rd out in the 7th). The problem is that Harden has only given up 1 hit and the Jays haven't scored yet.

    Worst Sports Cliches

I always get frustrated when a team's best hitter will ground out, but still move a runner over and the announcer will talk about 'How he did his job.' What? I realize that no one gets on base 100% of the time, but he's not in the line-up to sacrifice himself so that someone can be at 2nd instead of 1st.
