I was upset that the Leafs signed Ed Belfour when Byron Dafoe was available.

'We just have to play within ourselves.' What the fuck is that even supposed to mean?

I don't think 'OAO' even really means 'One and Only' anymore, it's just something that people stick in there on instinct (and it's annoying seeing every thread titled that). If there's big enough news, people will start their own thread for it, whether or not there's a 'OAO' thread already created.

No way are the Cubs one of the bigger disappointments of the season. They're still in contention for the wild card and it's not their fault the Cardinals are head and shoulders above everyone else. I wouldn't put the Phillies in that list yet, either, but if they falter down the stretch and don't come out on top, they belong on there.

Phew. The Blue Jays didn't blow this one, but they sure made me think they were going to.

His IP doubled from 2001 to 2002 since he started '01 in A ball to work on his mechanics and didn't get called up until a few months into the season. And he stayed in for the whole 10 innings because, like Al said, he didn't throw very many pitches (he took a no-hitter into the 7th, I think, and it was against the Tigers) and Tosca wanted him to get the win, probably since he figured it might help his Cy Young chances. And now he's gone for 4-6 weeks. And Delgado getting hurt didn't help, but he wasn't really setting the world on fire before he got hurt, same with Wells. I really don't know what's wrong with Phelps, either. He's shown some flashes where he's been on fire, but you know he's pretty far down the totem poll when he wasn't playing 1st while Delgado was out and wasn't even DHing most of the time.

This is actually the best example of two enties in the same genre NOT competing. While both present football, the NFL and the AFL have very distinct audiences and have never once competed in 18 years, which is why the AFL has survived. Hell, about 5 or 6 AFL teams are now owned by NFL owners, which further proves that they aren't competing. Every other football league that competed with the NFL tanked (USFL, XFL) because they were presenting the exact same product, only with less talented players. This is a trap TNA could easily fall into, but thankly to this point they have not. The AFL on the other hand, is football, but it's an entirely different brand of football. There's a 50 yard field, nets and players play both ways. Some may scoff and say this isn't really football or this is a gimmick (like TNA's 6 sided ring, Ultimate X matches or fondess for spotfests), but the fans that do stick around will do so because its something they can't see anywhere else that still fills their wrestling need. They have enough innovations where it's like, it's wrestling, but it's different, thus having a chance to give the average person a reason to watch something other than what they normally watch. I think he meant the old American Football League as opposed to Arena Football.

But they shouldn't be a bad team, that's the problem. They won 86 games last year and improved their starting pitching, which was one of their biggest problems. The only change made in their offence was Chris Gomez replacing Mike Bordick, not exactly an earth shattering move. They shouldn't be in last place.

Yeah, it's worded poorly. Batista didn't get any outs in the 8th before getting pulled.
-
If the Jays weren't horrible, tonight's loss could have been the worst ever. Batista takes a 2 hitter, 5-1 lead into the 8th before he hits the wall. He gives up 2 runs and leaves 2 on before getting an out and getting pulled for Vinny Chulk who gets the 1st 2 guys out before walking someone and serving up a nice grand slam to Texiera and giving the Rangers the nice 7-5 win. I don't think I've ever seen a game turn from a sure win into a heartbreaking loss so quickly. What the fuck is wrong with this team?
-
They could be the Blue Jays, who stranded 13 runners in scoring position while going 0-for-15 in those situations. Just a bit frustrating.

Saliva.

I think Delgado just doesn't want to be a rent-a-player, and I don't really blame him. I'm pretty sure he knows he isn't going to make the same money anywhere next year and I wish the Jays could get something for him instead of just letting him walk away, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Everyone who complains about Fox's game presentation and announcers should thank their lucky stars they don't have to put up with the Jays' guys on Roger's SportsNet. Rob Faulds is an idiot and John Cerutti says the most retarded things sometimes ('It's hard to hit a pitch that's out of the strikezone').

I think Minnesota might be keeping Morneau in the minors for now so he can play in the Olympics.

The fact that Quintuplets is such a horrible show (although it's not Richter's fault) makes it even worse that Andy Richter Controls the Universe was cancelled.

Not nescessarily. I never understood the argument that says the wild card allows weaker teams to make the playoffs, since most of the time the wild card team has a better record than at least one of the division winners (hell, the 2001 A's were the 2nd best team in all of baseball, definitely not a weak team). Even the old system didn't nescessarily mean that the 2 best teams in each league would play in the LCS. The '73 Mets finished 3 games over .500 but made the playoffs since the division sucked. The Dodgers and Giants both had better records than in the west but were left out.

The folder is there to discuss the product, not for everyone to hold hands and talk about how great everything is. If someone doesn't enjoy the product, they have every right to go into there and say why (in a mature fashion, obviousy), which is exactly what Nelly did. It's not like we didn't take the suggestion under advisement, we just decided that the folder doesn't need it's own mod at this point. The board isn't a democracy. Don't be such a drama queen.

That Jays win tonight was awesome, after blowing the lead in the 8th they comeback and score 4 in the 9th off of 2 HRs, one by Dave Berg and a walk-off shot by Delgado. They're in their non-sucking mode right now, it seems, although it was just against a last-place team.

I thought that they may have had Halladay replace Hudson, but I figure that maybe his shoulder is still bothering him and Tosca asked Torre not to pick him.

Man, does anyone want to play with the Bruins? These 2 guys at work are huge Bruins fans, so this should be fun to rib them about.
-
Tom Hanks was on an episode of Happy Days, too. He played this guy who wanted to beat up the Fonz for pushing him off a swing in the 3rd grade.
-
And Rocky Biddle's starting for the Expos on Saturday. Man, he could barely make it through the 9th inning, how's he going to last as a starter?

I saw it in my politics class about a year and a half ago and I remember it being funny. The donation checks he sent to the Presidential candidates ('Abortionists for Pat Buchanan) especially sticks out. And while it's kind of admirable that he's going around and trying to stick up for the little guy, going around, being a shit disturber, and bugging security guards kind of bugged me. I mean, it's not their fault that their company is downsizing.
