    This Week in Baseball

Halladay was awesome tonight. Got into a bit of trouble in the 1st then no more hits allowed until the 9th. It's too bad that he couldn't get the shutout, but Jason Frasor's 1 pitch save was nice. Hopefully he's the full-time closer here on out, since this bullpen by committe thing they were doing wasn't working out too well and Terry Adams seems to pitch better when the game's not on the line.

    TSM Head-to-head FantasyBaseball League~!

I'm getting pretty lucky in the NL league. Sexson gets hurt, so I pick up Cordero for a bit before he gets hurt. After that, I pick up Daryle Ward right before Sexson gets off the DL. Ward was on a bit of a hot streak, and I didn't want to give him up for nothing, so I made a trade offer before I got around to taking Sexson off the DL. Thankfully, the person who I made the offer to never saw it, since Sexson got hurt again while still on my DL and Ward's still playing well. Tom Glavine and Chris Carpenter are helping out, too, and I don't think anyone thought Clemens would pitch this well. Yeah, I tried to pick him up, too, but I wasted my waiver priority on Justin Miller a few weeks ago.

I can't find it anywhere on the net, but the ticker on TSN is saying that the Jays put Catalanotto on the DL and called up Alexis Rios. Him, Simon Pond, and Reed Johnson are probably going to split time among themselves in the corner outfield spots, but I'm interested in seeing whether or not this guy is the real deal.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I feel sorry for any Tampa Bay fan living in Canada who's looking unbiased coverage of the series. Everything's about 'Calgary's Quest For The Cup' and how great it is in Calgary right now. There was nothing like this when Toronto and Ottawa made it to the 3rd round the 2 years before that, and I doubt there would have been if they made it all the way (especially for the Leafs, since there are already enough accusations of bias, splashing their logo all over the coverage would have made things worse). But yeah, I know when the Sens were in the conference finals last year I was kinda torn. I don't like the Devils and I sort of wanted a Canadian team in there, but I didn't want the Sens to make it to the Finals and win the Cup before the Leafs could because I would have never heard the end of it from all the Sens fans that I know. Calgary's an easier team to root for, anyway, regardless of where they're from, just from the underdog factor. To be fair, though, TSN, SportsNet, and theScore really aren't playing this up as too much of an America vs. Canada thing, at least as far as I've noticed.

    Jacques Martin hired

He said something along the lines of, 'Here, we have an all-star calibre goalie, something we never had in Ottawa my whole time there'.

I liked that nice little potshot Martin took at Lalime.

The 15 Most Tortured Sports Cities

I think it happened the year after they lost in the finals. Against Philly, John Leclair (again, I think it was him) had a shot that went through a hole in the side of the net and was ruled a goal.

How is Tampa Bay anywhere near the top 15? The Bucs have been a good team (for the most part, anyway) for the last few years and have a Super Bowl to show for it, while the Lightning were the 2nd best team in the NHL, have won 2 straight divisional titles, and are playing for the Stanley Cup this year. So what if the Devil Rays, suck, does anyone care about them, anyway? I think Toronto deserves to be on there (not in the top 5, or anything), if only because the only team they really care about, The Leafs, have the longest finals drought in the NHL and have never been quite good enough to win anything, and everytime they come close to just making it out of the conference, they lose to a team they should beat.

They remind of the Jays from last year. Better hope Lidle doesn't completely fall apart after the All-Star break.

The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread

I wish they didn't say that Palmer was dropping out of the election since it would have been nice to have had that cliffhanger hanging over until next season, but other than that, no complaints.

His contract's up after this year and he's not going to make as much money, anyway. His salary won't be much of a concern for a large market team like LA.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Well, Wilbon said he'll be watching some of it to see how Jarome Iginla does. He also said that the 9,000 who showed up in Philly to watch Smarty Jones practice would be about 2,000 more than would show up to watch Tampa/Calgary, so fuck him. You think that they'd want to help promote the games that are on their own network rather than tell everyone that they're not going to watch it and neither is anyone else.

I'm guessing this means next season won't be set in LA and I guess we'll just get a lot of these people talking to Jack on the phone or whatever.

http://www.thestar.ca/NASApp/cs/ContentSer...ol=970081593064 That article there says it's Brian Morris. I really don't think there's much truth to it, though, except for the fact that I wouldn't be shocked to see Delgado end up in LA eventually.

    This Week in Baseball

There was some rumour last night that Carlos Delgado was off to the Dodgers for Encarnacion and a pitching prospect after they pulled him out of the game when he hurt his knee, but everyone's denying it. Apparently there was another rumour during spring training that had Delgado going to LA for Gagne, but last night was the first I'd heard of it. I don't get that trade for the Jays, unless they stick Encarnacion at 1st or as the DH, since they've already got more than enough outfielders either already in the majors or on their way up in the near future.
