Death Proof is solid up until Stuntman Mike gets shot. I realize what he was going for with the Girl Power stuff, but the movie isn't as good after that, because Kurt Russell is so awesome in this, and then he turns into a little girl, I don't want to see that. Hell, if he gotten away, it might have been better, instead we get Rosario Dawson and her stupid haircut stomping on his head. I'd say from when Russell shows up at the bar until he gets shot, it's probably better than Planet Terror (the shot of Stuntman Mike getting into his car, flicking his cigarette and smiling at the camera is so fucking great), but I just can't get past how much I dislike the ending.

David Eckstein, who apparently still played in Toronto, was traded to the D-Backs. This fulfills my pre-season prediction of him being traded to a playoff team AND we get to hear a bunch of great stories about him come playoff time! Did you know he was small?

The Jays traded Matt Stairs to the Phillies and called up Travis Snider. I'm not sure I understand bringing up Snider this early, but whatever.

They signed Stewart because Reed Johnson couldn't hit righthanders (aside from '06). It didn't pay off, but seriously, if Johnson was still on the team, they wouldn't be any better. Also, the current LF is probably the best hitter on the team, so there'd be a lesser hitter blocking Lind and the team would probably be worse for it. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but I have trouble saying that JP is an awful GM. He does some shitty stuff (the Dunn incident, lying about Ryan's injury), but the bullpen is one of the best in the league, and I think he deserves some credit for that. And aside from '04, which was due to injuries, a lot, they've never been an awful team. The Burnett opt-out clause sucks, but I wonder if that's what it took to get him to sign in the first place. The Glaus-Rolen trade hasn't paid-off this year, but Glaus is an injury risk, himself. I've heard Frank Thomas being released was more of a John Gibbons thing than a JP thing, but even then, I don't think this team would be much better with Thomas in the line-up. Obviously he's a better DH choice than Wilkerson/Mench/Eckstein (ha), but maybe he'd have been good for another win or two. The Delgado thing sucked, but I wonder how much of that was ownership's doing (although, the announcement of the payroll bump a few months after Delgado left was a little suspect). I also don't think that John Gibbons is necessarily a bad manager. Anyway, I'm not trying to defend him too much, and I do think he'll probably be fired in the off-season barring some miracle run (the '08 Jays will be this year's '08 Orioles), just that he seems to take a lot of shit for some things that he might not deserve.

Fuck Reed Johnson. When John Gibbons got fired, he did an interview where the guy was asking a question about one player the Jays had let go and how much that might have made a difference. I figured he was going to ask about Frank Thomas, because that would make sense since the team's power numbers are awful, but no, it was Reed Johnson. A fucking platoon left fielder who no one would have even heard of if he didn't play for the Cubs.

Also, no one in the AL has a good road record (aside from the Angels). By the looks of it, the Rays have maybe the 4th or 5th best road winning percentage in the league.
