    Hockey Jersey Decision

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Even though I hate the Flyers, their's looks like the nicer of the 2, so I'd go with that one. Oh, and slightly off-topic since this seems like the right place to ask it, does anyone know if the Oilers have permanently changed to their alternates for their home (dark) jerseys now? Their dark sweaters (from '97 or '98 on, I guess) were always a favourite of mine, but everytime I see them play, it seems like they're wearing those Todd McFarlane designed things, which kinda suck.

Well, when your payroll is about 1/4 of what the two teams ahead of you are paying, then I'd say it's pretty damn good to finish within about 10-15 games of them. I wouldn't really call it being outclassed, especially since the Jays record against the Red Sox and Yankees last year was hovering around .500. I'm not going to lie, I'd like it if the Jays could compete spending wise with the Yankees and Red Sox and compete for the World Series every year, but that's just not going to happen. I pretty much have to put my faith in JP Ricciardi and hope that he knows what he's doing. Based on the 2003 record, it seems like he has some idea and that the team isn't far away from being up there with the Sox and Yankees competiting for the division title. The stated goal is to be ready for the playoffs in '05 and hitting the peak around '07 and '08. Obviously, I'd rather them be in the playoffs every year, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen so I'll have to hope everything goes according to plan. To me, it's more fun to be a fan of a team who has to try and build up a winner than it is to be one of a team like the Yankees.

The Jays have probably improved themselves more than any team in the AL East, and the only team I can think of in the AL that's done more is the Angels. The Red Sox and Yankees have made more high profile changes, but I really don't think the Yankees are any better than they were in 2003. Adding Vazquez and Brown is nice, but you're losing Clemens and Pettitte at the same time (two pitchers who are probably better than their replacements). They're still a good team, but probably behind the Red Sox now, who added Schilling without subtracting anything substantial from their rotation.

Well, according to this report, the Blue Jays picked up Miguel Batista. I'm happy, I just hope he makes a better #2 starter than Corey Lidle did last year.

    Anyone Else

Well, I like the Leafs (1967 Stanley Cup champions, haven't been to the finals since then), the Blue Jays (haven't been to the playoffs since 1993 World Series), and the Expos (made the playoffs once, in 1981, 2 years before I was born). Someone better win something soon.

And, since there are other teams out there, here's the Expos San Juan schedule for 2004: -New York Mets (April 9-11) -Florida (April 13-15) -Milwaukee (May 18-20) -San Francisco (May 21-23) -Toronto (July 2-4) -Atlanta (July 5-7) -Pittsburgh (July 8-11) I'm somewhat pissed that they have the Jays playing down there, since that's supposed to be their attendance boosting 'natural rivaly' series. I understand that the promoter down there wants Delgado to play in Puerto Rico, but Toronto is one of the bigger draws that the Expos have at home, so you're taking that away from the home fans. Looks like Delgado and Bonds will have 3 games each to pad their home run totals, though. Yet another reason to hate Bud Selig.

Team Canada WJC Selection Camp Opens

I never pay enough attention to Junior hockey, so one of my favourite parts of the WJC is seeing all these players play at a high level for the first time. It's also where I learn about a lot of up and comers, as before last year I had never even heard of Fleury and look where he is now.

    I Hate Snow

We had a little bit of snow left from a few weeks ago, but it was raining overnight, so most of it's gone. It's supposed to get cold soon, though, so there's going to be tons of ice all over the place within a day or two. Joy.

Sportsnet.ca says that the Jays are after either Miguel Batista or Sidney Ponson. I can't really link to it here, since they have this weird set-up, but this is part of the article: I think they have a better shot on Batista, which would make their rotation: -Halladay -Batista -Lilly -Hentgen -Josh Towers/Mark Hendrikson Which is a hell of a lot better than what they had last year. If they have enough in the budget to pick up another bullpen arm on top of Batista/Ponson and Ligtenberg (someone like Rhodes or Benitez), then their entire pitching staff is MUCH better than it was last year.

You can't help but feel sorry for the guy. If the Wings had just won their last game of the season last year, were the top seed in the West, and drew the Oilers instead of the Ducks as the 2nd seed, it's likely that NONE of this stupid sitation would have happened. Or, if his team mates could have solved Giguere (hell, if Robitaille's shot went in and didn't hit the post in OT in game 1), then there's no need for Hasek to come back and screw everything up. To top this all off, whenever Joseph's actually in Detroit, he's behind Leagce on the depth chart.

    Strange things you eat

Actually, I probably prefer carrots without anything on them. I save the dip for other vegtables I'm not so fond of (celerey, cauliflower, etc.). Sometimes at work, we have this stuffing stuff that we're supposed to put in chickens or other things we can stuff in order to make them more expensive and it tastes pretty good on it's own. Also, when I'm by myself at night and the store's quiet, I'll cut a small piece of beef off of something that's usually open in the back and 'cook' it on the hot plate type thing on the pricing machine. I don't usually swallow it, but I will chew it and get all the flavour I can out of it before spitting it out. It's probably not the healthiest thing to do, but I'm still alive, so I guess it's not too bad.

    Brave New World

Would take: -Dr. John Dane -Patricia Clark -Felicia Garcia -Father Franz -Donald Newton -Jerry Blake -Mary Evans Reasons: Their religions didn't really factor in, I just took people who seemed to be relatively healthy and who weren't too young or too old. I wasn't going to bring Newton, since if he's gay, that's not exactly going to help make new people, but there are other men who I'm sure would be more than willing to help out on that end. Oh, and the racist mormon and the black power advocate could provide hours of entertainment. So, Wouldn't take: -Shirley Dane -Bobby Dane -Eva Garcia -Dr. Julio Gonzalez Reasons: Bobby and Eva are too young to be of any use (although I considered bringing along Bobby, since if he's strong he can do a lot of grunt work if needed). The other 2 are sick, and I don't need them either dying or wasting other people's time needing to be cared for.

    Political Affiliation

Mine (John O'Toole) retained as well. I live in Bob Runciman's riding and he kept his seat (even though the Liberal candidate actually had more votes in the main city in the riding). The Liberal won in the riding I actually voted in, though, here at school.

    The BCS Selection Show Thread

At least you were on the good end of a 6-1 score in game 7 of the Leafs/Flyers series last year. These are the same Leafs who were eliminated in OT by the fluke Carolina Hurricanes the year before, and the same Leafs who a few years earlier went out against New Jersey with only SIX FUCKING SHOTS (!) to show for it. Ugh, they better win the Cup sometime soon. Oh, and on topic, the BCS is fucked and probably the main reason I can't get in to college football.

    Average Joe

I think the point of bringing the 3 guys in in the middle was to see if she would pick the 'Average Joe' if given the choice between him and a model-ish type. Seeing the promo for the 2nd one, it looks really bad. I'd rather them do it with a guy and a bunch of plain looking girls. I don't think the guy would take it as well as a girl would.
