The Leafs only have about $10 million spent so far for the '06-'07 season, so they've set themselves up well for past this season. I still think they'll squeeze into the playoffs this year, though, but they're probably only the 4th best team in the division.

Yeah, Francis. He didn't do much.

If I'm eating at 3, it's going to be lunch, since I probably couldn't go the rest of the day without eating anything else, even if it was something small.

4.5 seems so much closer than 5.5, though.

I guess the Fan in Toronto is saying that Roenick's going to LA.
-
Damn. TSN just said that the Flyers signed Forsberg to a 2-year contract. They're over the cap now, though.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=132239 Calgary signs Amonte and McCarty (or, according to my dad, Almonte and McCartney).

I work in a packaging plant that makes mostly cigarette packages. Not the greatest job in the world, but the pay's good and I get 4 days off every week, so it's hard to complain too much.

I'm guessing that Florida was the first team (maybe the only one) that wanted to sign both of them. I'm more upset that Roberts is leaving, even though I like Nieuwendyk, he was hurt a lot when he played for the Leafs and I don't think the team has a lot of cap space to dedicate to someone how might only play 2/3s of the season. I wish them good luck, but it's kind of weird to me that Roberts is going to be coached by Jacques Martin.

Yeah, I was going to write something earlier about how great a pitcher's duel it had been, but then Rivera went and hit a triple, so I thought I had jinxed it.

According to the ticker on the Score, Goodenow steps down and is replaced by Ted Saskin.

Now, if Baltimore's anything like Toronto, they'll win only when Boston wins and lose only when Boston loses. The only ground the Jays have made up in the last week or so is when they haven't played and the Sox lost.

Apparently, the Jays could have Halladay back by the beginning of August, which would be less than a month after he broke his leg. He threw off the mound today and I guess he didn't show any ill effects. Awesome news, plus they killed the Angels tonight, to boot.

I remember the last half hour of The Life Aquatic being really shitty.
-
Which sucks, since TSN's not going to cut into Off The Record's time to show the last part of the show.

The Cape Fear DVD has a few of the opening credits that Saul Bass did. Psycho and Vertigo are pretty awesome.

About 30 seconds after I read this, my dad came in and told me that he was talking to the guy who lives across the street who said his daughter has a couple of friends from school over this weekend and one of them is Madden's sister. Weird.

It looks lopsided.

Well, I hope he goes to the Leafs, but I'm not holding my breath. Columbus seems like a pretty boring place for him to end up, even though him and Rick Nash could make a nice duo.
-
Columbus.

I guess TSN is going to be showing the draft lottery Friday afternoon at 4, I think. Too bad I have to work all day.

The Sens' choking is highlighted by the fact that they always lose to the same team. And they always wear down the Leafs, who always lose the next series after beating Ottawa.
-
Zero.

It makes sense because the only way the trade is made is if they can sign Burnett to an extension. And they're not that far out, really. Hurts that Halladay's out for a bit, but they have a soft schedule, for the most part, for the next little bit so they might be able to make up a couple games.

Well, I think if Lowell was going, too, the Jays would throw someone else in, but not Hill. Some people on that board were wanting to toss Hinske in there, but that's just wishful thinking. Like I said, I don't understand the Lowell thing from a Jays stand point. Seems more like the Marlins are trying to dump his salary off.
