A huge misprice for most 9/7/04 DVD releases. It only lasted a few hours but I got in on it. They fixed the prices on the site not too long after I placed my order. All five of those were either $9.99 or $11.99.

This is actually an interesting angle here with Kidman, I like this. I was hoping they would do something like this.

    Should I take this job?

I was offered a new job today, and it really sounds interesting, but I'm not sure that I should accept the offer. Just so you know, I'm a 24 year old male, and the job will pay $9/hour. The job is basicly working at a camp for troubled teens aged 13-17. On top of that, I found out that it is an all female camp. It's not even so much a camp as it is just a place where they stay. It is out in the middle of the woods, but the person who interviewed me told me they never do any outside stuff like camping, swimming, and that sort of thing. They don't even have a lake on the property. They "go to school", eat, sleep, do chores at the place, have a little free time, and then it is the counselor's job to help them out. At times I'd be alone with some of them, giving them advice, and basicly just talking to them. This is where I question it. Seeing how this is a bit more risky than other such jobs, what with it being only females and they have been through a lot what with fighting, broken up families, drugs, and on and on, I question if I should accept the job. My worry comes from the "what if" scenario. What if they do something that they shouldn't, I write them up, and they decide to get back at me by saying that something happened between us, consensual or otherwise. I know that the risk of that happens comes along with other jobs, but this one seems a bit more high risk than most. The ages, their various problems, being out in the middle of nowhere, the fact that I'd be one of the only males working there, etc... Would any of you guys, especially those my age, take this job? Sincerely, ...Downhome...

    Top 5 Favorite Movie Characters

I couldn't just do five and leave it at that. This list is not in any order except for the #1 spot. After this top ten, I have listed a couple of more picks for different things. 1) Kate Winslet - Clementine Kruczynski - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2) Rutger Hauer - John Ryder (The Hitch Hiker) - The Hitcher 3) Nicolas Cage - Charlie Kaufman/Donald Kaufman - Adaptation 4) Bruce Campbell - Ashly 'Ash' J. Williams - The Evil Dead Series 5) Anthony Hopkins - Dr. Hannibal Lecter - The Hannibal Lecter Trilogy 6) Kevin Spacey - Lester Burnham - American Beauty 7) Kevin Spacey - Roger 'Verbal' Kint - The Usual Suspects 8) Jack Nicholson - Randle Patrick McMurphy - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 9) Michael J. Fox - Marty McFly - The Back to the Future Trilogy 10) Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones - The Indiana Jones Trilogy SPECIAL MENTIONS: My Favorite Character Actor - Had I not done this, Johnny Depp could have dominated the list. So I just thought I'd stick him down here. My Favorite Non-Human Characters - Puss In Boots from Shrek 2 and Gizmo from the Gremlins films go here. Also, both of the lead characters in My Sassy Girl belong on my list eventually, especially Ji-hyun Jun.

Region 3 - My Sassy Girl: Director's Cut
  11. Here lately on various news networks and radio talk shows and whatever the topic has started to focus more and more on the upcoming Republican National Convention, and for good reason as it stars up pretty soon. Anyway, I've heard interview after interview from various people who are planning on a huge protest in NYC while the convention is going on. We all know that these people are just flat ouf full of hate right now, hate for Bush, the war, and whatever else. Hell, many here share that line of thought, and that's fine. Still, as the conversations with these people go forward they usually get to the topic of just how they plan to protest. They usually say they'll do whatever they can to get the point across. When asked if they are going to do so peacefully and within the boundaries of the law, they simply do not talk about it. Many people, leaders of groups, just flat out refuse to say that they are going to do the right thing and refrain from hurting people, innocent people, the various law enforcement officials who are going to be on hand, and others in such positions. Is this Bush hating deal seriously worth hurting innocent people over? I know little about this, but I heard something where they have been having a hard time getting permits for the protests, but many say that they don't care, and that they'll simply do whatever the hell they want, have it be simply protesting, or being violent and breaking windows, and hurting people. Here we have the Republican National Convention coming up, terror warnings going up every which way for this time period, and having all of these people coming in here, a million or so people, running around acting like morons with no respect for the law or law enforcement officials, it seems to me like this could be a huge ass mess, and could put many of people in danger. Is it really worth hurting people over? Is it really worth putting millions of people at risk just to make a statement? Why in the hell can't they just say what they want to say without getting in such a mindset of lawlessness? Do any of you guys support such bullshit? I just don't understand this. Sincerely, ...Downhome...

Great deals on used DVDs at Ingles!

I just picked up four more at $5 each. The Cooler Elephant Northfork Pieces of April
  18. I just went to Ingles, and I got the following for $5 EACH. They are all in their original cases, with all inserts (if a DVD has one to begin with). Heck, some of these DVDs still had the security strips on the case on the side and top and bottom. If you have an Ingles grocery store with a video store inside, you should really go check it out. They've had $5 DVDs for a while now, but never a selection quite like what I'm now seeing. By the way, I live in SC so I don't know if this grocery store is just down here in the south east or not. I just thought I'd let you guys know about this, if you didn't already. They also have a boatload of $7.99-$9.99 used DVDs for the new releases. Anyway, here is what I picked up today for $5 each. Buffalo Soldiers Equilibrium Lost in Translation Lucky Osama Paper Moon The Station Agent Tears of the Sun Touching the Void Sincerely, ...Downhome...
  19. If any of you don't shop there, you really should. They have great prices on many DVDs, and are simply hard to beat. I've only been using them since May, but I've yet to have a problem with them. I've placed about eight orders with them in this time, and not once have I had a problem. On 8/29 I placed an order for Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and JSA: Joint Security Area. I recieved the email saying that payment was succesfull in a matter of seconds, as always, but I didn't see the order show up on the site. I couldn't remember if that was instant or not, so tonight I emailed them asking about it. Well, believe it or not, in a matter of just SECONDS, they emailed me back saying that everything is fine and that my orders would be showing up in a few days. I checked the site, and my orders were then showing up. I've never had anything that I've ordered from them to take more than a single week either, and it's shipped from the other side of the world. If you want a place to by DVDs from around the world at great prices then use CD-Wow, I've been blown away with them. To make this even better, use the following link to get $1 off of everything you see. Just click the link on this page, then click the USA flag over on the left. If you have PayPal, just use that as it counts as a MasterCard. http://www.mastercard.com/specialoffers/me...ard/143801.html Sincerely, ...Downhome...

    Should I take this job?

Full benefits after 90 days, but they told me that they will not give me a raise no matter what, until I've been there for exactly one year. I think I might just go for a deputy position here in a local town, as I'm pretty sure I could land that if I talked to the right people. Decisions decisions.

    Making VCDs

Making VCDs are easy as hell. Take a .MPEG/.MPG (MPEG1) file, make sure it's small enough to fit on a CD, use VCDEasy to create a .bin and .cue, then use Alcohol 120% to burn that file. VCDEasy is your friend, if you learn how to use it the right way. Use TMPGEnc to cut a film in half if you need to, to create two files the right size to burn. A 700 MB CD will usually hold around an hour or so of video, so obviously you'll have to burn a movie to a series of discs. I've put various SNL skits, wrestling matches, etc... to a single disc and it works great. If you have an .AVI file you want to burn, just convert it to a .MPEG. I recently downloaded the (almost) three hour Best of the Dynamite Kid video, and burned the entire thing to a series of three VCDs, and it plays absolutely perfect on my DVD player and looks fine on my TV. I'd compare it to a VHS or something. I've burned a few foreign films to watch on my TV like this, including Shaun of the Dead. If the video file is widescreen, it'll show up like that on TV. If it's fullscreen like the Dynamite Kid thing that I have, it'll show up fulscreen. Like I said though, it's easy as hell.
