    CTDWAT: TNA Edition

I'm sure they will head up there in 09. But at least they have and will continue to tour in and around New York in general, though. Shit, the closest they have ever come to around here was Des Moines, IA, which is a 4-5 hour jog from where I'm at (Southern Minnesota). With the Rochester show, that's only an hour or so away from me.

    Cuts are a comin!

Just because you clearly don't watch the show, and thus are unfamiliar with the names, doesn't mean they should be released. Cutting both ECW and Smackdown brands out completely (and doing what exactly with those timeslots? Don't you get the company actually, ya know, makes money from having more than one brand?) is totally insane. No way to slice it otherwise. Don't even try. And I totally disagree that Truth can't draw at all. Will be ever be a main eventer? Doubtful, but he still will be a guy people enjoy to see and buy merchandise of his from the company.

Kevin Fertig held a job with WWE way way WAY longer than he should have anyway. Every gimmick he had was mediocre, or more particularly, the way he played each gimmick was mediocre. Plus I can't recall him having one single match that jumped out at me as impressive. That is too bad about Tim White though, but I can see the reasoning if he's really not doing that much for the company anymore.

It's just too bad they can't those same million viewers to order the pay per views......hell even 10 percent of them (100,000 buys) would be pretty damn strong for them. This next pay per view will be a very telling benchmark on how their build went to getting their Impact viewers to actually want to get the pay per view here since that "go-home segment" at the end of this weeks' show really sold me on at least the six man and Angle/Jarrett. Other "random thoughts" Anyone heard yet when exactly Global Impact 2 is going to be aired on Spike? FINALLY.....TNA is coming around my neck of the woods for a house show. Rochester, MN to be exact (on March 26th or something) at the same arena that used to tape the dying days of the AWA back in 1990. In fact the last year plus of the company....every weeks ESPN and All Star Wrestling show was taped there. So it holds a lot of memories for me since I went to alot of those tapings as a young kid. WWE has also come to this same arena on and off for years, and in fact they are doing a house show tomorrow there. WCW did a few house shows there as well back in the 90s. I'm already banking on hopefully picking up front row ringside immediately when they go on sale.

    24 -- Season 7

Good thing you are starting from the beginning, as I think thats the only way to get into it at this point. I hadnt seen a single episode until season 3 or 4 came around, and took the route of just renting the DVDs of each season before I got current. That worked really well since I would do marathon viewings, which is perfect for this kind of show. I'm predicting you will be hooked by the end of season 1

Ok, so they released Venis, who was a perennial "lifer" of sorts. I'm holding hope that Hardcore Holly gets the ax then, as if Venis can be dumped, so should he. I would love nothing more than to never see another Holly match ever again. I'm missing why they even hired D-Lo back in the first place, if they just are giving him the ax this casually. He was a road agent for TNA before this, so I could see him going back there, alongside a spot on the roster as well. He might make a decent addition to the main babyface Front Line faction.

    Impact 1-8

Yeah, the first segment (well, at least the Shane Sewell angle) and the last segment both were pretty strong, I thought. TNA has really started to fly on all cylanders with their top programs and the storylines that go with them, which is very rare that a compelling storyline draws me into TNA programs/feuds. Maybe they will finally get to the point where they have that solid balance of strong storytelling to go with solid matches. Time will tell. Unfortunately, there was alot of Impact I tended to skim through last night just as much as certain parts to the show really hooked me. Other strong stuff was the Beer Money/Lethal Consequences stuff (felt like a significant title change because of the babyface association with Front Line), the newbie chick against Kong and a huge misfire continues to be this nonsense with Daffney and the Beautiful People. Very hit or miss show to both extremes.

    24 -- Season 7

So I won/got two tickets to a special "VIP" screening of the 24 premiere in a theater on Saturday night, actually at the Mall of America of all places. Apparently free food, drinks, and merchandise as well so it should be a cool free promo deal to check out.

    The WWE PG 13 Philosophy

I'm missing where, other than some really horribly lame attempts at family style all-ages friendly humor and the elimination of blading, that the company has really changed much of a direction since they went to TV-PG or whatever its at these days. Generally speaking, we still are getting good to sometimes great pay per views (and dare I say the pay per views have really gotten much consistently better than they were just as of a few years back), feuds are still heated, etc. In fact, more than ever, I think partly because of the "evolution factor" of all of us first getting into WWE as children, and then it evolved as we did into teens/young adults, and now this core audience is starting to raise their own kids, etc, it's just about the right balance of things. There is more emphasis than ever towards a realistic style of workrate, in alot of cases, in the big matches, a more stiff style which has seen many memorable moments of hardway blood shots this past year as well. Gimmicks and characters in the company are a mixed bag, but there are still more quality gimmicks than bad, even with the movement towards catering to general audiences. And maybe the original poster here doesn't have HD feeds of the shows, but I have seen a strong shift in production and the formats of the shows since they went to HD, better camera angles, more randomness of this and that from a segment to segment standpoint as well. Seems more polished than ever, which is bad and good, but more good than bad as long as they still try to spice it up once in awhile. Sure, shit like Hornswaggle doing tadpole splashes on heels and Santino trying to be the big baddie by revealing the Santa Claus truth is ridiculous, but I still think the good outweighs the bad in the WWE product when you break it down currently.

    OaO WWE Raw - January 5, 2009

Tell me you don't honestly think that JBL should be in the main event of Wrestlemania 25. I like JBL and all, but COME ON. There is no reason whatsoever that the title match shouldn't be Cena vs. Orton, unless one of them ends up facing Austin instead. Don't discount JBL v HBK in the Battle for Texas. Throw in another two months of this storyline's slow burn, maybe a "Beat me and earn financial security for the rest of your life; lose and you retire, just like you retired Ric Flair: beaten, battered, and broke." stipulation and you have a respectable main event regardless of workrate. Almost wondering too, after the news that Vince is coming back, apparently per a Jericho persuation, that we get HHH/Jericho at Mania also, with Steph in one corner and Vince in another. I really don't want a repeat of Wrestlemania 2000. I really really don't. Me either but it sounds like they are already building to yet another McMahon on-air feud, and I wouldn't even be surprised to have them tie in the accident angle into it somehow even. Never really thought of it but Orton could be incorporated into the McMahon drama pretty easily also, if they had Shane join up with him as another third-gen guy to manage them or something. Orton/Kennedy/Jericho triple threat?

I think it's a lock JBL/HBK will be at Mania, and I wouldnt be shocked to see it end up being for the title at this point (Michaels retires unless he wins the title), via Michaels winning either the Rumble in a swerve (since apparently he's not in the match as of right now) or at the Elimination Chamber match. I say this since I'm expecting them to book Cena/Austin at Mania, and that certainly doesn't have to be for the belt. That leaves Orton out in the dust a bit, but a suitable spot could be found for him in the undercard without him challenging for a title. It's really too bad they couldnt talk Rock back into one more match, as Orton/Rock would be a really strong Mania bout, fitting for the calibur of the show this should be on paper. Almost wondering too, after the news that Vince is coming back, apparently per a Jericho persuation, that we get HHH/Jericho at Mania also, with Steph in one corner and Vince in another. Another Raw guy could be put in HHH's spot though, and preferably so. Or they could finally do the Kennedy is Vince's real son deal, and do it that way to lead to Jericho w/ one McMahon against Kennedy w/ the other. Next week sounds pretty good to me, I got a ticket for the live show in Sioux City, IA (a small arena I'm shocked to hear they are having Raw at, since its pretty tiny, but they have had Smackdown taped there a few times before) so hopefully Cena/HBK and Punk/Regal end up being good matches.

    CTDWAT: TNA Edition

Some random news from the latest Observer..... There is at least talk of putting someone else in the Suicide costume to do run-ins to keep the character alive on television. Among those in discussions regarding doing the role for now include Christopher Daniels and Paul London. Low Ki’s name came up, particularly since he was at the shows this past week just dropping by, but his New Japan commitments wouldn’t allow him to be there at all the tapings. The joke is now they can make Daniels into Suicide and have him lose the feast or fired match again next year. Kazarian is now engaged to Traci Brooks. Most people in the company were shocked when they heard the news. Add that one to the storyline becoming reality except TNA has to do it with a twist. If you remember, in TNA they built the storyline and then dropped it cold and forgot about it. Between Jeremy Borash and Diana Degarmo of “American Idol,” Kurt Angle and Rhaka Khan and David Sahadi and Gail Kim, TNA is now filled with unpredictable relationships. Well, I have to say Angle and Khan is hardly unpredictable, but the other three, not in a billion years. They are now going to film one extra match at each TV tapings exclusively for web site content.
  13. For the show airing Christmas night Show opens with the announcement of A.J. Styles & Devon vs. Booker T & Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle vs. Rhino rematch with Jeff Jarrett in Rhino's corner Chris Sabin b Kiyoshi in the X Division tournament. Sheik Abdul Bashir attacked ref Shane Sewell after the match Styles & Devon b Booker & Steiner. Post match saw the Mafia attack and Mick Foley make the save. Foley then announced Foley & Styles & Devon vs. Nash & Booker & Steiner for Genesis on 1/11 Taylor Wilde & Roxxi & Christy Hemme & ODB b Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed & Rhaka Khan & Sojourner Bolt in a match where they all dressed up in Christmas outfits Kurt Angle b Rhino via DQ when Jarrett interfered. Big brawl at the end involving Sting. -----Spoilers are very limited with details, so can't say much about it all, but having Foley's first match in TNA under the direction of a thrown together six man tag such as that seems a little underwhelming to say the least.

    Smackdown vs. Raw 2009: News/screens

Where/how did you get it so cheap? I want to buy it (just got a PS3 last week) but it's still way too spendy around here lately. Ironically, though, I did get TNA Impact for only $20, and I am actually enjoying that game immensily, despite really negative reviews of it.

    Caylee Anthony Case

What was she like in High School? The media is playing her off as this big time partier/whore. Was she like that back in the day? She's older, I think 23 or something. But just days after the girl went "missing" the mom was out at local clubs partying, with photo evidence backing that up. Seems weird that a mother of a missing child would be out at clubs just two days after her supposed dissapearence, huh? And as far as the whore deal, the word was that she was sleeping around with 3-4 guys at the same time as all of this was going down, apparently. One other thing to mention that is huge in understanding this case......there was alot of sketchy stuff happening even before the cops were made aware that the child was missing. The mother refused to call 911 on a missing persons report. The mom and now deceased child went AWOL of sorts on the rest of the family 30-plus days beforehand, rumors of a major fallout with the grandparents of the child, whom the mom and child were living with at the time. So the mom took off and, of course, took her child with her. From that point, the mom and child were distant from the grandparents, and finally came to a head when the grandparent's car (which was being used this entire time by the mother) was found vacant and smelling of something foul in the trunk area of the vehicle. Once the grandparents apparently retrieved their car back, they then found out that the child, according to the mother, has been missing for well over 30 days. The grandmother then flips out (for obvious reasons) and then finally the police are notified of the "kidnapping." There are telling 911 calls of the grandmother calling into the police about all of this, stating the vehicle smells like a dead body, that her own daughters needs to be arrested, etc. Basically, there are a million sidebar items to this case, so I would suggest just checking out some websites for more details, since theres such a vast array of information relating to this case.

They should just bring back in Low Ki to play the role, since I believe he was the guy they used for the role in the actual videogame.

    Friday The 13th (2009)

So is the original Friday the 13th the only one of those three Friday "deluxe" releases that is Blue-Ray? All the same, either way I'm stoked to finally see the third film actually in 3-D.

    OaO ECW thread 12/16/2008

Yikes, that last thirty seconds of that match was a total trainwreck, but otherwise a good match and a pretty good show all in all. Could have done without a Finlay squash though.

    Armageddon 2008

Have you been watching WWE the past x number of months? They clearly had been building him up to get the belt eventually. It doesn't matter if we believed it was going to happen at the ppv or not. In fact, dare I say its better than we didn't believe it, the unpredictability factor went up a bit because of that supposed "fact" according to you. And for what it's worth, I definately had a feeling he was getting the belt at the ppv. I even commented on it early in the show in this thread. Just seemed to be building to this since he came so close so many times. And it was a triple threat, which set up an easy out for HHH. In fact, that was pretty much the only reason why I ordered it.
  20. But I think what he meant is that is a teaser for the first Halloween film...... But anyway, surprising to hear Zombie is going to do the sequal now, it's much more validated now or something. Was real worried about how it would turn out without him to be honest. Now the only issue is that they are supposed to be doing post production already by next month, start filming in March, and then have it in theaters by next Halloween already. Moving that quickly on things is always a big risk of turning out a piss poor product, especially when it comes to franchises like this.

    Friday The 13th (2009)

This is going to stray this thread off topic even more, but any theories how they are going to explain Myers didn't get his head shot off at the ending of Zombie's Halloween? They got some explaining to do if they are going ahead with this Halloween sequal (which wont even have Zombie attached to it at all, apparently...not yet at least). Sounds like an even worse idea than Platinum Dunes remaking Friday the 13th here and also apparently NOES.

    Armageddon 2008

They were just starting to put him in title contention a year ago, so they should have put it on him without even building him up to the spot (which they did here, and not too bad, all things considering, by the way)? Thats a big what the fuck statement there. Some of us also have to get off the idea of having "big" moments like this title win saved for supposedly a bigger show. All of the ppvs, in theory, should be treated equally in what comes out of them, and it would be nice to see things happen like this on a ppv that was, on paper, ok looking but unexpected in how the outcome was. It made me really feel like I got my $50 worth out of the show, and definately made it feel anything but a throwaway show in the aftermath. Jericho/Cena and Punk/Rey were also extremely strong bouts too, I'd put Rey/Punk at *** 3/4, Jericho/Cena at ****, and the triple threat main event at **** as well.

    Armageddon 2008

Another really strong match, awesome way to end the show. Totally didn't expect this pay per view to be THIS well put together, it had a strong undercard, and the two title matches on top were both well above the norm. The last ppv match of the year tells the story that has been happening for exactly an entire ppv "year." That match built well leading to Hardy finally getting the title. Told that story almost flawlessly. Glad to see the scaffolding on the stage used for something on the show!

    Armageddon 2008

Jericho looked extremely competitive in there against Cena, that was one of those matches that made both guys look strong by the time it was done. Jericho was reversing out of Cena's stuff left and right, etc.
