AWA Wrestling back on the air

Yeah, that was good. Are these shows now repeats from months back though? I swear I've seen some of this 86 stuff just recently.....that Leon White/Stan Hansen match seemed familiar, as did the Verne Gagne run-in on Rheingans/Masked Man match. I still got about the last two weeks of the 1990 shit on my DVR begging to be watched, just need to find the time. I know I scanned through the opening of each of these last AWA shows they did from 1990, and, my god, was Lee Marshall overselling everything TCS related in the beginning of these shows, with a confused looking Verne Gagne (like he was forced to take over helping out with "hosting" these shows). Quite the surreal moments there.
  2. Quite possibly the dumbest movie news I've heard in a long time.... ** EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL: Producer Don Carmody is in negotiations with Sam Raimi to adapt stage play EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL into a 3D movie reports Screen Daily. Conceived by George Reinblatt, Christopher Bond, Frank Cipolla and Melissa Morris, the camp stage interpretation of Raimi's cult classic horror trilogy was originally mounted in Toronto and Montreal and has since gone off-Broadway. Bond and choreographer Hinton Battle will co-direct the 3D film version which they hope to shoot in Toronto next Spring with some of the original cast. At the moment however serious rights issues still need to be resolved. (thanks to DarkHorizons.com) ---No fucking way am I supporting anything Evil Dead without Campbell and Raimi involved. The 3-D spin sounds interesting, but it's still basically doing a remake to Evil Dead, only as a musical (are you fucking kidding me?). Talk about fucking ridiculous.

Punk would have looked a lot worse if he was injured and actually worked the match, and to take that a step further, actually jobbed the belt out himself, and didn't lose by never being pinned in the first place. The way he was scrapped from the match was his "out" to save face completely. Plus, I'm willing to bet that he got "screwed" by Adamle, which they will probably go into a bit on Raw tonight. The story will probably be that Punk wanted to still go out there and defend the belt, but Adamle wouldn't allow it. And then Adamle hypocritically gives the slot to a guy who was as injured as Punk. Typical heel GM nonsense.
  4. Pretty much......they did this long winded "entrance" for her to start the show, akin to how they used to do for Goldberg all the time in WCW (have the cameras follow backstage, have a person knock on the dressing room door, follow her to the stage, etc), she welcomes everyone to the awards, and then she wins three awards (wins in every category she is nominated in, IIRC) on top of it. Seemed extremely fake and set up, like I said, almost that they paid off MTV to promote her like crazy. When she kept getting announced as winning, she seemed less than surprised she won, on top of it, making me think it was rigged. Plus, she ended the show with Russell Brand, driving off the "set" stage.

Ultimately, wins and losses aren't as significant as some of us make them out to be here if the guy is over enough to handle such losses, so let's not act like a guy like Orton, who is very over and has gotten the rub enough to where he's defiantely credible, can't put over a guy who they gave the world title to, actually gave a little decent "off the gate" run to in the process, and protected on the way out of the title.

You're stretching, REALLY stretching there. They're not going to stretch out that first big Orton/Punk match until Armageddon, cmon. And I don't see Cryme Time/Priceless feuding any further than probably a few weeks from now, if that.

Orton can certainly handle losing to Punk (he has and will continue to have sustainable heat regardless), and I actually expect it to happen, at least with the blowoff match. Orton doesn't need to jump right back into the title picture, so he'll put over Punk, and I would assume the faction starts taking more shape, and that becomes more of a focus long term, as well as a feud with Batista possibly after he's done with Punk (Jericho will deal with Michaels and Batista in the interim while Orton/Punk happens). I also expect that to be a very heated program that will probably go three ppvs with a program.
  8. Yeah, it was a really bad show, only really good thing I can say is that it looked visually great on MTV-HD. The studio lot idea was cool in theory, but came across pretty weird and just plain retarded, especially that Pink and Jonas Brothers shit. Some of the other stuff, like Paramore and Kid Rock, was just lame. Lil Wayne was horrible. Rihanna was the only performer who was even worth watching, and that was even a stretch. Christina Aguliara was lip synching really badly. And that shit with Kanye West at the end was just kind of "umm, that's it?" I also didn't get the point of the "house band" BS when, well, there wasn't even a full band there, it was a fucking DJ and Travis Barker?! The last two VMAs, and a handful of others, have been so over the top with how its scripted that its not even entertaining unless you're a 12 year old girl. It's so bad, it's just........bad. I still think last years show takes the cake as the most clusterfuck ever, though. Basically, it felt like Britney Spears paid off the producers of the show, it just seemed so cosmetic and fake on all accounts. Russell Brand also bombed out pretty hard here, I've seen funny spots from him before, but he came off annoying and ridiculous here. When you have Kobe Bryant presenting the final award of the night, well.....

If they weren't high on him, they would have just jobbed him out in the scramble match, and they didn't.

For any Punk fans that are worried about how he's treated, you should be relieved they did what they did tonight with him. To me, that shows they actually are protecting the guy and planning for him to chase the title a bit now. And he has a clear direction with Orton right now too, so cmon.

That's what I mean by saying that it was booked that way for Hardy to pin Benjamin as soon as HHH got his pinfall, since the story of the match was Hardy getting a pin on someone right after HHH would get one prior. Like I said, it was BOOKED to make Hardy look like an inexperienced dumbshit who couldn't tell he wouldn't get another pinfall in time even with the fans counting down. Someone was sure thinking ahead on it all in when they laid this match out, and I think we can safely assume who that guy was. Old habits die hard with HHH, apparently.

The problem with Show/Taker isn't one at the level of another, its just that those two hardly ever have good matches together. As we saw tonight, they still don't click. And it's a mundane redux, nothing creative or original here. Taker and Show deserve better than against each other again.....a proven failure in my book. As far as the Hardy thing, I honestly think it was booked to make Hardy look that stupid, why would he then pin the other guy last minute like that? He was supposed to do so.

    Gail Kim gone from TNA

I have a strong feeling she will appear at the TNA ppv in Canada next weekend, given her Canadian roots and everything.

Punk isn't buried, he was protected......I would have thought anyone could have seen that was what they were doing, by giving him an "out" to not even so much as get a chance to defend his title in the match because of the beatdown. If Punk actually went in the match, and got the shit kicked out of him the entire bout, THAT in itself would have buried him. As for that last match, it was actually the weakest of the three scramble matches, I thought, but I liked the unpredictability of having Jericho win the title here, plus it's well deserved as it leads to Jericho/Michaels continuing as the true main event feud of the company (a program which both guys have shined on, and is better than any program WWE has done in years), and also sets up Orton/Punk feuding for the next big title shot after the Jericho/Michaels feud commences. Plus in whichever way its' done, Punk against either Michaels or Jericho is strong stuff, and it makes sense now why Jericho went over Punk in that non-title match on Raw a while ago. I think it was intentional for Adamle to pick Jericho as Punk's replacement, as it made the move hypocritical on Adamle's part, especially if the story ends up being that Punk wanted to work the match, but Adamle wouldn't let him or something. Solid ppv, the Jericho/Michaels match was awesome, and the undercard was a mish-most of mostly acceptable stuff, except the horrible Taker/Show program setup. Haven't we seen that feud far too many times already?!! But the show ended with a huge "holy shit" moment that definately makes me looking forward to the next upcoming shows. So really can't complain too much.

Wow, that Taker/Show/Vicki angle was awful. That was one of the weakest beatdowns Taker has ever had to do. Maryse/Michelle was actually ok for what I expected. Michelle was throwing some decent stuff for the WWE women standards.

They had to rub it in twicefold that Kendrick wasn't in HHH's league, I will say that much. MVP and Benjamin were just kind of "there" in the match and really didn't get any sort of rub, unfortunately. In retrospect, the ECW match actually gave me the feeling everyone had pretty close odds to winning near the end there, except perhaps Miz.

They're giving Punk an "out" by getting jumped by Orton in the back, so either they're booking him to overcome all odds here or else it will give reason for the title loss. My bet is still Punk retaining.

    WWE Unforgiven 2008

Yeah, thats how I thought it came off as, too. Also, Jeff Hardy was apparently booked to be the biggest fucking idiot alive, was actually buried subtly in this match quite a bit at the finish. When HHH got the pedigree on MVP and was pinning him with just 3-4 seconds left, all Hardy had to do was break up that pinfall attempt, but instead with one second left (with the fans counting down, so it wasn't like he didn't know) he goes and pins another guy? Huh? The action was good in the match, but holy shit, I swear HHH himself laid that fucker out. Between that shitty way to build up everyone from Friday's show, and then the way this match was booked, everyone in that match looked pretty shitty, except the champ.

Finally getting why Afa Jr is with Priceless......second gen stars together. And they are building a faction with apparently all of them and Orton, gotta be where that's going.

That was a fantastic match, the quality storytelling keeps happening with Jericho/Michaels. Even though there was a decisive finish (and kudos for plenty of time given to it all) I still think there is more to this feud.
  21. RedJed

    WWE Unforgiven 2008

Wow, so they are doing Jericho/Michaels already, I'm definately still calling a non-finish here of some sorts. No way is it the blowoff.

Doesn't mean ECW title either, but hey, let's move on. I never said the ECW was something special either. I just said in WWE land, that belt is supposed to be in the same prestige as the Raw and SD titles (ie "major titles"), I was just speaking in a different context. So who the fuck is the new guy with Priceless? He looks like a bad version of Umaga mixed with Ricky Ortiz. Afa Jr. Is he any good? Never seen him work.

He won the US Title? I meant a major singles title (RAW, SD, or ECW world title), not that prop that never goes anywhere in the big scheme of things. Like the ECW title? Which is ironic in itself that Hardy won it, since it's most definately the most devalued of the big three belts. And like I said, in the opening match even. It's as "oh yay" type of title victories you can get. Very insignificant. IE Hardy is, in essense, a prop in the big scheme of things. He'll never really get that significant role in the company, ya know, the one Jeff keeps teeter-tattering around.

The US Title has been more valued then the ECW Title in recent months, by far. Whatever the opinion is of the US title personally, "major singles championship" doesn't mean the US title, in comparison to the big three belts. Keyword, major.
