    CTDWAT: TNA Edition

Yeah, I remember some stuff he did with him around BFG time, and I think they even used him in the Monster's Ball match on that card, and did a really horrible looking dive off the first level of the arena onto someone on a table (Abyss?). Shit, now that I think of it, I think Mitchell even managed him there. Maybe. But yeah, the last stuff I saw from him was pretty bad. Whatever the case, Raven just didn't have the desire in him anymore, so it's best he probably left. I noticed something about him being in some knock-off of Death Race, though. Shocked he hasn't showed up in ROH again.

    CTDWAT: TNA Edition

Some releases that fell kind of under the radar lately has been..... Rellik/Johnny Stamboli, asked for his release and was given it. I think he asked for his release because he wasn't getting booked at all (which may have something to do with them also not using Dustin Rhodes, who I believe is not even on a contract) and probably was having to compromise dates with his overseas stuff, possibly. Jim Mitchell also is gone, which is kind of surprising but kind of plays into the Rellik & Dustin Rhodes thing (wasn't he managing them basically last time we saw them all?) in that they just never used him, especially after Mesias left. It's too bad because the guy is a hell of a great talker, but at this point there might not be anyone who could benefit by having him as their manager, other than maybe just putting him back with Abyss. But the Abyss v. Michell thing is just way played out, though. (On a side note, I'm surprised they never went full out and paired him with Raven full time, that would have worked. And where the fuck has HE been?) Third guy to be leaving soon is Scott D'amore, apparently to concentrate more on his restaurant business taking off and needing more time devoted to it. He's been primarily booking the Knockout division since it started, so it will be interesting to see what happens to that once he's left. IMO, that division has been booked and treated well WELL above my expectations for it, and really has been one the strongest parts consistently with TNA for months now. Kind of concerned it may take a turn for the worse if he's gone.
  5. Friday Night Light's Peter Berg directed it, so there ya go! Yeah, that is one thing I actually did really like about Hancock, the general look and action feel to it, it just didn't deliver on the other fronts and by the end of the movie, the action kind of got repetitive to me, on top of it. Speaking of Berg, I think he also did Vantage Point also, which just recently came out on DVD. Definately worth checking out.

    Video on Demand by DirecTV

I was just going to post in this board what is the On Demand services by DirecTV all about.....and here is already is. Nice! But I just got hooked up to DirecTV today and noticed this as a service (free at that, which is good).....can you actually get subscription channels off there (like WWE, Stern, etc) or is it just archived stuff from the premium channels (HBO, etc)? And it's just as fast as your broadband is, huh......doesn't sound so great, compared to the On Demand services I've seen through cable companies. BTW, I had Dish Network for three years and finally had enough and made the switch to DirecTV today, couldn't pass up essentially a deal where I would get about three times the SD channels I had before, and about 50 more HD channels then I had, and only have to pay $40 a month for the first three months, then it only jumps to $60 a month (even though I lose all the HBO and Showtime channels then but whatever). So far I've been really impressed with the look of the HD channels, seems actually a bit cleaner than I had with Dish for the most part. That may have played a part because my old Dish Network HD reciever was dated (they wanted me to pay for a required upgrade to keep any of my little HD I had and thats why I left them) so it didn't output the best quality resolution or something. Whatever the case, I feel like I'm getting a hell of a deal by going with DirecTV, which is rare to feel in this day and age when it comes to entertainment costs in general.

    ECW on Sci-Fi (7/8/2008)

ECW and Raw possibly did a trade or something to get Kelly, or something. If that is the case (and if so, it would be a perfect way to introduce a new person via the Open Door Policy thing they are doing with Teddy Long right now) they might as well throw a guy like Val Venis or hell, even Paul London or something, over to ECW. Certainly wouldn't hurt, WTF else are those two guys, just as a few examples, going to do on Raw otherwise? Although the way I took it last night was that her storyline ECW contract expired or something. Or that she never had one? Meaning, in that case, then we are to assume Miz DID literally own her, and not just an actual ECW contract....or what?!!

    WWE Raw (7/7/2008)

I took the light falling down as some sort of deal someone purposely did in the storyline to try to take out Punk much as Vince's accident occured. I'm pretty sure how they will explain Vince's deal is that Kane's supernatural powers made all of that happen, as well as the light falling during Punk's promo. As for the "fan" running in (and even backstage, mind you) during the Batista deal, that's simply someone coming up with an idea that without any GM, or any McMahons "in the back" running things, chaos apparently ensues and someone can just run into the backstage, and find where they are filming the promo, and act a fool. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear the "fan" is one of the small scale writers the company is using or something. They seem to have a knack to find random characters to throw them on TV for once in awhile. BTW, I may be way off here, but I swear that was Bruce Pritchard driving in JBL's limo last night, and then running the fuck off fast after he parked it, like he didn't expect to be on camera.

    WWE Raw (7/7/2008)

Yeah, my guess is that Kane was referring to Vince, "if he was dead or alive" since they are scripting it that its all a hush on Vince's condition. True, they killed off Paul Bearer, or did they? Either result would yield something more interesting than they've done with Kane for awhile. The only really awful idea is to have this lead to Taker coming back somehow. But a Kane heel turn like this and finally, some character development with the guy is good to see since I thought he'd totally get lost in the shuffle being brought back to Raw for no good reason. Of course, now we seem to know the reason why that happened, if they are going to do a sadist gimmick with him being the guy trying to take out Vince and more than likely others down the road. Hey, if they make him interesting again, which they got me hooked so far, I'm all for it. Cena is starting to get a little less basic and more entertaining as a character these days thanks to the pairing of Cryme Time, also. That was an unexpected show tonight in all, and I liked it. Cena and Cryme Time were actually very entertaining and I'm sure we'll see "CTC" signs pop up next week. The main event was alright, not sure what to think of Batista going over......like someone else said, they should have just had Kane win (since there is ECW backstory there with the two) tease Kane going a lil crazy beforehand, and then have him go full tilt at the ppv after losing to Punk, then revealing he was trying to kill Vince off. Also, I dont know if this was storyline or not, but was that light falling down intentional or not during Punk's promo? That also could be tied into Kane too, I guess. The fan at the end of the show before Batista came out.....that was different, and it felt scripted. Makes no sense but hey, its unexpected. My only real issue with the show was the promo to start the show went really REALLY long, it seemed. But most of it was ok, it just wouldn't seem to end. On the flip side, Jericho and Michaels are making a hell out of a story with this program with some memorable segments with the two lately. I liked the idea played upon strong during the whole show that the wrestlers are basically running the show, also. Made it a little less cliche than the norm for this company to write TV in this manner. Simple booking 101 also: book your new world champ and second tier champ on the show in glorified squashes. It actually worked for me, at least for this week.

    Box Office Report...

I would have to think Hancock takes a fall, and hard, in the next few weeks. I can't see it getting solid word of mouth. I went and saw it over the weekend and really, the movie leaves one feeling like you kind of wasted an hour and a half, compared to alot of the other summer blockbusters this year. The story just wasn't tight and strong enough to really hook me, things seemed a bit disjointed and really not explained fully, although maybe I just missed a few points here and there. But it just came across like a very loose script, and the backstory of Hancock himself wasn't very "wow" whatsoever (nor was Theron's backstory either, or the both of them). All in all I guess the action was pretty well done, but this just camr across as the biggest thrown together shit I've seen in quite some time, at least in comparison to other CGI extravaganza type films. Gave me the same feeling 10,000 BC gave me after I left the theater, just wasn't very entertained.

  12. To follow up on the talk about The Goon..... ** THE GOON: It was announced yesterday that THE GOON has been optioned by acclaimed director and producer David Fincher and Academy-Award nominated Blur Studio to develop as a CG animated feature film, according to TheGoon.com. The Goon is a comic book series created by Eric Powell in 1999. The story is about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest. No word yet on how involved Fincher will be. **bloodydisgusting.com** If Fincher has a big role in this, it could be tremendous.

Perhaps one of most bizzare random news items in a long time....from this week's Observer..... "Lethal and Dutt have an idea of bringing in Iron Sheik, since they are big fans of Sheik, and using him as a rapper who would introduce Booker T." Seriously, WTF?!! I'd have to see such madness first before I would completely dismiss it as the most off the wall idea I've heard a company considering doing, or being suggested to do by other workers.

    *Smackdown Spoilers*

So because a woman is in a bunch of Skinemax style films, which AREN'T PORN, that makes her a slut? Anyway, back to point here, I'm surprised Edge/HHH is happening at the next ppv already. That's totally and completely rushing that feud to say the least. Edge should have been rematching Punk, I thought, or at the very least, an undercard number one contenders match with Jeff Hardy or something. Unless they have some wild grand plan of bigger programs within the next nine months, I think its a huge mistake to do Edge/HHH already. That could have been saved for Mania XV. Edge's credibility right now is pretty weak coming off the title loss and I fear a burial of sorts at this point from working against HHH this soon. Chances are we will probably see Taker v. HHH at Mania, given whats happening here. And who knows whats up with the Vicki thing, although my guess is its a swerve and from that, it will be the "last straw" for the board of directors and they fire Vicki, bringing Taker back and whatnot.

I'm awfully skeptical if that is the real reason why she's leaving the company for some reason.

    WWE Raw (6/30/2008)

I'm lost how having D-Lo Brown as Holly's partner makes ANY sense, actually. At least with Haas, you had a previous tandem with him and Holly, with D-Lo, there is no past connection to Holly in any fashion. Bottom line is when/if D-Lo returns, he shouldn't be thrown in a fucking tag team, especially with a tweener like Holly. Just doesn't make sense. I do like the idea of Noble and Holly, something along the lines of a "Southern Justice" rednecky tag team, though.

    WWE Raw (6/30/2008)

Just a few quick comments here..... I'm thinking Batista v. Punk (which certainly is inevitable) will headline SummerSlam, and Cena may be interjected into the mix there too in making it a three way. Punk v. Edge should happen at GAB though to further give Punk some credibility of some sort, in beating Edge more handily than how he did last night. I also don't think Punk is just going to be a transitional champ to give it back to Batista or Cena anytime soon. I think in due time, maybe around the end of the year or beginning of next, he will be doing the job, likely to a heel Batista, which will then segway to Batista/Cena at Mania XV for the WHC. And after he loses the belt, I could see a Punk heel turn out of all of this, as I think he will fare well enough staying as a face as champ for now, but thats all up to how the booking treats him down the road here. But for one night so far, he was put over strong (most in thanks to JBL). Batista, I am thinking, will go heel whenever Orton returns, and I could see them possibly aligning with Jericho and Cade as well. Otherwise, Orton could easily lead a faction of DiBiase, Rhodes, and ???? (another second or third gen wrestler of some sort) if they want Batista staying face. But I think within the next few months, they might as well finally pull the trigger on Batista going heel, probably precipitated by going back to feud with Michaels and snapping on him. The heel turn will also be based from his frustration on Punk beating Edge when he was the one who took Edge out himself. I'm betting Haas and Holly will re-form their tag team. Back when they were feuding with MNM a few years back, they were actually pretty decent.

    WWE Raw (6/30/2008)

Yeah, this stuff tonight was good, real good. I figured Punk's chance would be coming soon, but not THIS soon! They actually made him look really strong by the end of the show, too. I don't know why, but I'm thinking that may have been JBL's possible rub to the brand's champ much like he did with Rey back right before he retired as I'm thinking he may take another break soon, if these rumors are true about his back. A GM role would be perfect for him, as has been said. And what can you say about Cena and Cryme Tyme? I like the pairing alot, actually. If it's going to be just comedy en masse with that group, though, I will probably be let down long term. But if they actually come across a little more harkin to what Cena's old gimmick used to be, I'm down for that. Cena has little to no edge to his character anymore, and this stuff is just what might help that. I'm glad they made up for a boring ppv last night with a show like this. I was pretty "eh" about things after last night's show. But that's certainly changed now, good to see the company going a bit off the typical paint by numbers system and spicing things up a bit with Punk as world champ, more than likely Batista going heel on him down the road here because he's pissed he basically beat Edge for Punk's benefit, and alot of other interesting scenarios possible for the rest of the summer here and everything. Any initial thoughts on what might be lined up for GAB? I thought they would build that a little tonight, but there was plenty of other stuff they went with. I'm betting on Punk v. Edge and HHH against, hmmm, good question. And surprised they didn't make much of a spectacle on the show relating to the Vince angle last week either.

    WWE Raw (6/30/2008)

Jericho v. Kofi is booked tonight in an IC title rematch. I'm sure the main event segment will likely be something to do with the Vince accident though. Also, keep in mind they are probably going to build GAB pretty quickly here, since its three weeks away.

The "Night of Champions" PPV Thread

What makes you guys think he's not ready? Is it just because he's jobbed out alot? I guess the fact he won MITB makes me think the company feels he's ready, otherwise why waste the push? As others including myself have said, all it really would take is for Punk to win whatever title clean, and then get an ego from that point, and go heel.

Precious Roy, read my last sentence in the post I made prior.........I said to turn Punk heel.

The "Night of Champions" PPV Thread

Thats ridiculous to bury a guy who already has lost alot of credibility with all of the losses (intentional, mind you) to balance the idea that eventually, he will get that big win with cashing in the MITB in return. I don't think there is a question when he cashes in the shot, he will win it, just because of all of the jobbing out he's been doing. Your reasons why he looks like a "chump" is pretty ridiculous too, since it wouldnt really put him over as anything but a chickenshit heel if he would actually get the shot immediately after a babyface is spent after a match (ie Edge's title wins) and I think the idea is to keep him as a face when he wins whichever belt. Plus doing the MITB deal this year the same way as Edge did it twice already in three years is just completely lazy booking. Teasing using the shot doesn't make him a chump at all, just strictly keeps the title shot as unpredicable whenever it happens. I think when Punk teases the shot, its the bookers telling me, "nope not going to happen tonight" basically. And then to boot, you want the title shot, and win, to JBL? The guy is still being bothered by the original injury that took him out (back injury) so he's a less than dependable heel to carry a major belt right now, and he's far from a huge heat magnet at this stage in his career. Give him the IC title if need-be, he can get over just fine with that, but a world title? No freakin way. As you already said, feuds with Cena/JBL and JBL/Batista have both already been played to death and having them headline either of those programs on any future ppv is counterproductive and downright stupid. And rest assured that whoever ends up with the title whenever Raw gets either one, Batista and Cena are the two top guys who will be challenging for it (or possibly against each other if one wins the belt by chance) so they are going to need someone strong to feed into solid programs with them, which honestly I could see Punk doing, but more than likely as a heel soon after he would win the belt.

The "Night of Champions" PPV Thread

That's another possibility I never thought of, Cena getting a rematch at the next ppv, could be very likely. At this point though, unless they add some gimmick to that match (trying to think of some gimmick they havent done in awhile and the only thing that comes to mind is an Ironman match) I really dont want nor need to see another Cena/HHH match for awhile. I could see Cena/HHH in a submission match. Cena could mention that while Triple H beat him, he didn't make him tap out like Cena made Trips do at WrestleMania 22. I would say that idea there is the frontrunner of what will probably happen for the next ppv.

The "Night of Champions" PPV Thread

The show as a whole was very mundane book by numbers type show. Other than Kofi being the mystery man and actually winning the IC title, followed by that decent angle with Jericho and Michaels afterwards, the ppv really didn't impress me that much. HHH/Cena had the crowd heat, but I didnt really see much here worthwhile other than the crossface by HHH to Cena. I'm being probably way too conservative by even giving it ***. Everything else was just completely formulmatic to a tee, seemed like. Don't completely get the logic of HHH winning the match other than the fact they are now 1-1 and the eventual third match will be the "one to end it all" or something. But with Smackdown having both world belts on one show, it seems to ascetically dull down Raw alot. Other than the idea of Punk beating either Edge or HHH (and the more obvious choice has to be Edge, as they have already hinted on Punk showing up at the wedding) its' conceivable that Edge and the WHC could either be moved to Raw via a judgment from the higher ups, based off the actions of Vicki in the match against Batista (she would also probably be fired as GM at the same time, and on top of that, reinstate Taker back) or else Edge is outright stripped of the belt, and a tournament is held to crown a new champion, and a Raw guy wins it (more than likely Cena). Who knows what will happen, but more than likely Smackdown won't have both belts very long. And doing a unification match may be possible, but probably not until SummerSlam at the earliest. In that case, I hope they would return back to having the unified champion work both Raw and Smackdown. But yeah, this show just seemed so uninspiring to me. Comparing it to most other WWE ppvs this year, this was a step below most of them, and way more dull than last month's One Night Stand for sure. The opener was pretty weird to have them work a standard tag match with a midget being the sympathetic face getting their ass beat most of the match, just seemed hard to believe given the way they laid that match out. But at least the titles didnt change. The US title match was just really basic as basic can get. World tag title match was predictable with the turn, but I think it makes the most sense.....DiBiase will probably cut a promo tomorrow saying he paid Rhodes x amount of $$$ to do the turn and give him the other tag title. And wow, that knockoff of Pink Floyd's "Money" as a theme for DiBiase, I get the reasoning behind it, but it really is a weird song to use for a heel entrance. Totally doesn't fit. The ECW title match was pretty much a trainwreck for one reason or another. Still confused if Kane actually got hurt there or not, as once he went down, Henry and Show were seemingly improvising really bad spots for a good while there. The IC title match was probably match of the night for me, good stuff for the most part. Women's title match was solid enough, but nothing to write home about either. Batista/Edge was ok, but much like Cena/HHH went tonight, it was just standard shit that really just made worse by the booking of the finish. Like I said a while back in a TNA thread, the whole stupid manager/valet pulls the ref out of the ring right before a three count is one of the more annoying parts to a match you can do, it makes no sense why a ref wouldnt just immediately DQ someone after that....and then beyond the rest of the interference and shot Edge gave to the ref, the finish logically made no fucking sense, unless they had a no DQ stip tagged to this match, but they didn't. I'm just glad we hopefully dont have to see Edge/Batista ever again, as they have never clicked in the ring together really. Not sure why, but I expected more from this show than what was given.
