I find the best way to describe Cedric Benson is to take all the good qualities of Adrian Peterson (runs angry, accelerates instantly, blows through defenders, etc.)...and then think about their exact opposites.
-
Well that settles it, if Hawaii beats Washington then they are in the Sugar Bowl.
-
Dallas' magic number in the NFC East is down to 2 games.
-
When was the last time someone threw the pick-6 three times in the same game?
-
I don't see why it would since he's not playing in the SEC championship game.
-
That is last week's Harris poll with this week's W/L records.
-
I don't think there's any way Georgia goes to the championship game. The voters have no problem putting them high now when it doesn't mean much (they are getting an at-large bid for sure), but I think there would be a lot of "strategic voting" to move Georgia down if it looked like they could possibly play for the championship. I'd say the chances of a 2-loss team making it are: 1. Oklahoma big gap here, for Oklahoma to win and miss out on a top-3 position (pending WVU) would require an incredibly ugly Big-12 championship game, and some absolute shit-kickings delivered by the teams below 2. LSU (would jump Virginia Tech if it was between those two due to their head-to-head) t3. USC t3. Virginia Tech (don't see much difference between these two, Tech is higher now though so they are in better shape) 5. Georgia

I'm also surprised Kansas stayed so high, I figured the voters would kill them for losing to the only good team they've played. They are in good shape for an at-large BCS game, which is pretty impressive for that program.
-
Based on that, Oklahoma looks like they are in the best shape to jump into the top 2 should WVU lose, since they have by far the most impressive game left in which to make a statement.

And that's a bad thing? While I know in past years, it hasn't been evident, these guys are Football players, not "Entertainers". For a while, I think the two have been synonymous, but they really aren't, and while I do enjoy watching some T.O. or Ocho Cinco, the fact remains that this is their job. And it's not necessarily the fault of the players, I mean this is now an era where people are penalized for simple celebrations. So it's no wonder why these guys just say fuck it now, and go out there and do their job. Which is exactly what the Patriots do. They go out there and do their job, and they do it better then anyone else on most occasions. I don't see how they should be faulted for that. I think it was said earlier, but "entertainer" and "personality" are two different things. The Patriots' only personality is "fuck you" which is GREAT for Patriot fans, but you're not going to win too many people outside that circle with it. The Patriots are the Nazis of the NFL. The Hoody is Hitler. Randy Moss is France. Adalius Thomas is Henry Ford. Godwin's law strikes again, I was wondering how long it would take until a Patriots=Nazis post would show up.
-
Yeah that's true. Darren McFadden or Jonathan Stewart to the Patriots? Good grief.
-
I wonder who the Pats would target with that pick. Maybe get more protection for Brady with fellow Michigan alum Jake Long?
-
Hey Iggy, how about another edition of the "contender rankings"?
-
Romo to TO, 7-7 and momentum is shifting in Dallas' direction.
-
Just speculation, but perhaps the play isn't "challengeable" (sp?) by the coaches but is "reviewable" by the officials?
-
So you are pissed that your team didn't win the game due to a blown call by the officials against the other team?

Like that matters. Phillip Rivers (in all of his awfulness) had a better game than Peyton Manning last week. Does it make any difference? No. Rivers and Peyton aren't connected in the eyes of media and fans. Rivers and Eli? Yes. Mario will unfortunately always be compared to Reggie despite playing entirely different positions. My real point is that one game means nothing in terms of comparison. You're better off comparing the overall careers so far, and right now, just by the team's success and how he broke out last year, I think Bush has the edge right now. Let's not forget though, HMW's only reason to make that comment was because he hates USC and I guess he thinks even a DE that was overdrafted makes for a better pick than Reggie Bush, however true that might be. Can we ban Reggie vs. Mario talk for the rest of the season? I mean damn, does it really matter to some people. It happened, its done, its over. Let ESPN talk about it all they want, but for our sanity lets not? You're right, I probably should have put it in the "Why ESPN Sucks" thread.

No, the point is that for the last two years, every time Williams has a bad/mediocre game and Bush has a decent/good one, ESPN (and others) take a ton of snide comments at the Texans about that draft. Had Bush ran wild today and Williams done nothing, do you not think the media would have been all over it?
-
Think ESPN will mention that Mario Williams had a much better game today than Reggie Bush? Somehow I bet it will slip their minds...

What about a one loss Kansas? Say they loose to Missouri next week and their season stops there, but then Missouri goes on to loose the Big 12 Championship. They would have played as many games as Ohio State. Kansas won't have a single good win on their schedule if they lose to Missouri, they don't have the name value of Ohio State, they won't be a conference champion, they would have lost later in the season, and their computer ranking would be lower. There's no way Kansas finishes ahead of Ohio State if they are not undefeated.
-
Which two-loss teams are going to finish ahead of 11-1 Ohio State in the BCS standings?
-
Ohio State's win today clears up a lot of the uncertainty that we discussed yesterday, all but eliminating a bunch of 2-loss teams from the national title picture.
-
I'm totally with you, despite the fact that my team has been all but eliminated from the national championship picture (and deservedly so, after last night's debacle). College football is the only sport where I find myself caring about most of the results during the "regular season", rather than just the ones involving my team (and maybe in the case of the NHL, my team's division rivals). Honestly, if it weren't for gambling or fantasy sports (the latter of which I detest, but that's for another thread), how many of you would care about the week-to-week happenings of baseball, basketball, hockey, and even pro football, to the extent that you follow college football, track every team's record, map out scenarios for how the season could play out (we do see this in the NFL somewhat, I know), and so on? If last night's game was Arizona against Seattle in the NFL, would anyone have given it a second look? A four team playoff, which would remove some of the randomness and prevent scenarios that actually are distasteful (such as undefeated BCS conference teams being left out of a shot for the title), would be a pretty acceptable compromise. But barring that, I greatly prefer the current setup to something ridiculous like a 16 team playoff, where a bunch of teams could start resting their starters right now, assuming they didn't care too much about getting the best seeds. The last few weeks of college football are like nothing else in sports, and I would hate to see that uniqueness disappear and sports get more and more homogeneous.

So if someone gets busted with the ganja, they should be banned from baseball and the Hall of Fame?
-
If Florida doesn't lose the rest of the way I'd guess they have the inside track at being a 3-loss team in the BCS. Man, last night's game was probably the most depressed I've ever been watching sports. What's amazing about it, is that you basically got to watch Oregon's season collapse in one play. If that moron doesn't let a touchdown pass bounce right off his numbers for an INT, it's 15-0 Ducks, and even if Dixon had gotten hurt at some point, they might have already salted it away by then. Instead, it's 8-7, then Dixon goes down, sucking all the life out of the team. And then, the Ducks couldn't even just lose 42-11 or something, they had to keep giving me hope, then punching me in the gut with turnovers. That fake punt followed by a fumble is basically how Oregon loses games in a nutshell. At this point, best case scenario for the Ducks is the Stewart's injury isn't serious, they form a coherent game plan for Leaf (which should involve 30-40 carries per game for Stewart), win the next two, and ASU drops one, which adds up to a Rose Bowl berth. Oh and Bored, there's another possibility: Oregon and ASU run the table, ASU goes to the title game, Oregon goes to the Rose Bowl. Unlikely, but with the way this season is going?
