That was one hell of a game (well, at least a half).
-
Only thing I can think of is that if Texas scores you can still tie by blocking the PAT.
-
This is turning into quite a good little finish. The first half was pretty boring but the second half has been a lot of fun.
-
I don't see why someone calling Tebow a "running quarterback" is supposed to get him all fired up and steaming mad all of a sudden. I mean, the NFL/draft media types (Kiper, etc.) have been saying the exact same thing all season.

I REALLY hope the voters put Utah at #2, or at the very least ahead of USC, especially after Musberger and ESPN did all of their "USC IS THE GREATEST TEAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND SHOULD BE VOTED #1 BECAUSE THEY BEAT THE #8 TEAM BY 14 POINTS!!!" bullshit yesterday.
-
It could be worse, FOX could have treated us to the Jonas Brothers like they did at halftime during the NFL thanksgiving game.
-
I got home from the gym and it was 17-7 at the half, and I was worried the Ducks were going to lay another egg offensively. That second half was some of the most fun football I've watched in a long time; Johnson, Masoli, and then at the end Blount were almost unstoppable on the ground. I'm sure I will regret making this prediction, but I think next season Blount might start making his way into the Heisman discussions (I'm not saying he will be a contender to win at the end, but he will get some press like Greene and Ringer did this year).

Jackson with a pick in the endzone and then takes a personal foul penalty at the end of the play on top of it, LOL.
-
There is some seriously bad football being played today by a lot of teams.
-
Brad Childress' continued infatuation with Tavaris Jackson costs the Vikings 3 points, as he gets stuffed on a 4th and 1 QB draw (yep, they needed one yard and ran Jackson instead of Adrian Peterson), then the Giants go up a short field and get a field goal as time expires. Between him, Lovie, and the rotating gong show in Detroit, do NFC North teams have some sort of aversion to hiring good coaches?

I don't really think so, and Chris Huston at HeismanPundit did a good job of explaining a major reason Fitzgerald didn't win: http://heismanpundit.com/archives/10 My single biggest pet peeve when people start awarding Hindsight Heismans is changing the winner based on what has happened in the NFL since then (not saying you are doing this, but it's a theme that shows up frequently, White/Fitzgerald being a common example).

Just thought I would pass along one of the more ridiculous arguments I've heard among this latest round of BCS whining (this didn't come from ESPN, just some random blogger). Apparently it's not fair to give Oklahoma credit for their strong OOC wins against Cincinnati and TCU because those schools are not "traditional strong programs" (which made me chuckle right away since clearly this idiot does not know anything about TCU's history) and so they don't deserve to benefit because of their unexpectedly strong seasons. Instead, teams should receive credit for their OOC schedule based on the "traditional quality" of their opponents, so while those two games would supposedly not count, Oklahoma WOULD get credit for beating 0-12 Washington, Utah would be rewarded for beating 3-9 Michigan, 6 teams would get big props for winning against 6-6 Notre Dame, etc. I seriously wonder sometimes if a lot of people get intentionally stupider when it comes time to discuss college football.

The problem is that despite everything, Blagojevich still has the power to pick Obama's successor. Whether anyone would actually want to accept such a tainted appointment is another matter, of course. The senate would simply refuse to seat whoever he appoints (if he actually decides to be a petulant dumbass and make an appointment out of spite).

The reason a game like Texas-Alabama doesn't happen is very simple: when two bowls lose their marquee teams to the championship game, one of them is not going to let the other take the best two teams left as replacements and then be left with the scraps. It's totally obvious why the Sugar Bowl would want Alabama and the Fiesta Bowl would want Texas, and completely ridiculous to expect either of them to give one of those teams up and be left with Utah vs. Ohio State/Boise State.
-
I don't see the Utah game being that ugly simply because Bama doesn't have much in the way of offensive gamebreakers outside of Julio Jones. They will put up points with long clock-eating drives, but if Utah can score on a few of their posessions I don't see things really getting out of hand. However, it's possible that the Crimson Tide defense completely shuts down Utah's offense and they win "big" along the lines of 28-7 or something.

San Diego really lucked out with the bowl matchups. The 2nd best mid-major team (TCU) against the 3rd or 4th best (Boise State, depending on what you think of BYU), then the best 3-loss team in the country (Oklahoma State) against an Oregon team that is really good when they bring their game (and really sucks when they don't, so I'm hoping for the former, both as a Ducks fan and someone who wants to see a good game).
-
I honestly don't think Boise State is all that good this year, and I think TCU (who really are a good team) is going to beat them fairly soundly. BSU's only really good win this year was against Oregon, in a game where the Ducks played most of the game with their 4th string QB who couldn't get the ball more than 10 yards downfield through the air, and finished 0-3 passing with 2 INTs. If the Ducks had taken the redshirt off their 5th string QB at halftime they might have been able to complete the comeback and win that game.

Edited with an equally true statement.

"Barely squeaking by" Florida is still a really good win, whereas practically no one respects Ohio State right now and hence crushing them wouldn't have that big of an impact, so I'd be very surprised if that happened. If the Fiesta Bowl was looking to get a "split title" angle going, they would be much better served by picking Utah instead of Ohio State, but I doubt they care much about that aspect. No one respects Ohio State and your solution is UTAH? Okay. In that scenario at least they could start claiming stuff like "beat the only undefeated team in the BCS, beat the BCS champion, blah blah blah". I think it's all just various degrees of BS, but it still sounds better than "we beat everyone's favorite whipping boy Ohio State!".

The only thing running through Brad Childress' mind during a game is "I'm gonna show these damn sportswriters that I can win a game without using Adrian Peterson!". It's the only way to explain his offensive play-calling.
-
Someone should tell USC that they actually need to impress the voters in this game if they want to have any chance of jumping Texas in the event that Oklahoma loses.
-
NFL scouts probably masturbate at the mere thought of drafting Julio Jones.

Maddux is one of the few guys who might actually be able to attain the mythical 100% vote. Unlike others who came close in recent years, there is just so little to nit-pick on when it comes to his resume, and I can't imagine there's anyone out there he personally offended or rubbed the wrong way. Of course, I'm sure there will be at least one asshole who doesn't vote for him because he's from the "steroids era" and thus is guilty until proven innocent for using performance enhancing drugs.
