I've never really liked the Seahawks. I think this might be due to my hatred of the Mariners during the mid-late 1990s rubbing off on other Seattle teams. They arn't all that high on my list of teams to hate though.

I can see how someone who might normally root against Texas be cheering in favour of them here, because they are the underdog against the dominant defending champions. Nebraska was the total opposite: due to their total assraping of anyone and everyone, if you weren't a fan of them you couldn't help but hate them (although I was pulling for them to win the championship in 1994, just so PSU wouldn't). Cheering for mid-90s Nebraska would be like a UCLA fan cheering for this year's USC.

1993-1996 Nebraska says hello. They lost a total of 3 games over those 4 years (one of which was a bowl game to Florida State for the championship), won 2 national championships, and the 1995 team is easily the best in the history of modern college football. Seriously, that team would spank USC and Texas all over the field. EDIT: Not sure why I stopped at 1996. The 1997 team went undefeated and won a dubious share of the national championship. Which means over 5 seasons, Nebraska lost 3 games, had 3 undefeated seasons, won 2 and 1/2 national championships, and won its bowl game 4 times.

Isn't ND's provision that they can be in the BCS top 12 and be considered? That's the same for all the non-BCS conference schools. Top 12 to be considered, top 6 to qualify automatically. Damnit why couldn't Michigan have held on for one more minute and sent tOSU to Florida?

As a Duck fan I have to laugh at all these guys talking about how Oregon gor screwed as an excuse to bash the BCS and lament how hard things are for the Pac-10. It would be one thing if these teams had been selected to play because of the money. But they qualified automatically under the rules that everyone knows in advance. Also, without Kellen Clemens I have a hard time saying that Oregon is a better team than Notre Dame. They definitely are not a better team than Ohio State right now. I just wish the Pac-10 would negociate some better bowl contracts so their number 2 team could at least play a New Year's game.

I think you can correct the problem for the most part by eliminating divisions, and then simply having the top 2 teams in the conference play in the championship game (if they continue to insist on having these games). That way you are almost assured of having a good representative in the BCS. There was a good article about this on CNNSI a few weeks ago. The conclusion, which I agree with, is that the conference championship game really only works well for the SEC because there's a natural central location for the conference (Atlanta) and the divisions usually both produce at least one good team.

Notre Dame probably has a good chance at beating them next year. I really hope that doesn't happen because Notre Dame will probably be ranked in the top 3 or so in the pre-season polls and if they are undefeated at that point then they will end up at #1 or 2 (depending on what Texas is doing probably) and then the overhype machine will just become intolerable.

They do have a shot against Oregon because without Kellen Clemens the passing game is nowhere near as good. If either of Dixon or Leaf can step up and have a big day then I think we can beat OU easily since our defense should be able to beat up on Bomar and the playcalling will focus on containing AD. If the QBs both sputter and AD runs wild then it could be a close game and an OU win.

This is why conference championship games are stupid. The entire rest of the season is rendered basically irrelevant, in particular the OOC games. Theoretically, a team could start 0-4, but win their next 7 games, play an 11-0 team in the conference championship, beat them, and now they win the conference. It's also why I had zero sympathy for Colorado in 2002.

Yeah, the BCS works my ass... The BCS is to match up the top 2 teams in the championship game, not to completely eliminate all conference affiliations with bowl games. I guess you would rather have: USC vs. Penn State Texas vs. Notre Dame Georgia vs. WVU Florida State vs. Miami Because that's what would have likely happened in the past.

Wow it only took 4 minutes for someone on ESPN to start complaining about the BCS. And they didn't do the predicted "wait until the end of the show to announce the Outback Bowl" stunt.

I like the way the games ended up even though I'm disappointed the Ducks didn't get there (although there's absolutely nothing to argue about since all the qualifiers were automatic). All four games have interesting aspects/storylines to them. I think people are overlooking the Sugar Bowl which should be a strong game. And the Orange Bowl could also be good depending on which FSU team shows up.

Big stop by the Dallas defense there.

OU has no secondary......just start throwing and don't stop. Even if you have a child throwing passes he's bound to connect enough against this crappy secondary to win the game. Don't even think about running the football. Just fling it everywhere. *yes i am bitter about OU's secondary* With a healthy Kellen Clemens I am 100% confident we would destroy OU. But using Dennis Dixon and Brady Leaf I'm not so sure.

So it looks like Oregon vs. Oklahoma in the Holiday Bowl is almost guaranteed at this point. I actually like this game as the consolation for not getting into the BCS, because at least it's against a big program, and also a team we are playing again next year. Hopefully Oregon wins so that next year's game in Eugene is the rubber match between UO and OU, our third game in 3 years.
