Bush joke may not be hilarious but...
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Betty Houle's topic in No Holds Barred
The joke was going along pretty well and then point (7) just kills it dead. -
I think the reason Clinton nominated Bader-Ginsburg is because she's the only female judge he wouldn't have considered groping during the confirmation hearing.

Cycling is a huge sport in Europe. In countries like Belgium something like 1/4 of the population watches the TDF.

Blair loses 2 elections in 2 days
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Vanhalen's topic in Current Events
This one actually is not that bad for Blair because pretty much EVERY big European government lost in these elections to opposition parties. It was, other than a few exceptions, a European-wide backlash vote against the big EU countries (Britain, France, Germany, etc.) with no real pattern in terms of who did well and who did (issues such as Iraq, for instance, had no noticable impact on these elections). -
Most French cycling fans love Lance Armstrong. Watch the end of last year's TDF; despite all the stuff that has happened with regards to Iraq and so on, the crowd boisterously cheered Armstrong and the US anthem. I would say that currently the only more popular rider is Richard Virenque, and few serious racing fans consider him a contender for the overall crown. You will never see a fan run out of the crowd and punch Armstrong in the gut like someone did to Eddy Merckx. Armstrong only gets targetted with this stuff because of his high profile, which happens often in cycling.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/06/11/nichols.trial/index.html Now, I've already made it clear I'm opposed to the death penalty from a fundamental viewpoint, but as long as it is on the books, I can't see any line of reasoning that would allow Terry Nichols to escape from it. He's already received life without parole from a separate trial, so there's no worry of him ever getting out, but this still seems very strange. It's not like the case was circumstancial or something.

I'm going to refrain on making any personal judgements on the subject matter, and say that looking at this objectively, it's a horrible idea and will probably be a huge flop. Whereas the US and Bush makes for good controversy and good copy in both the US and internationally, no one is going to care about this film except people in England.

Rose Bowl wants "fifth game" plan this week
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Agent_Bond34's topic in Sports
I've always seen it the other way, the coaches are MORE biased than the writers. Most of the times there were split champs in the 90s (which happened so often I'm always baffled at why people worship the polls so much) I felt the writers had the better team at #1. And then there's the disgraceful results of 1997, where Michigan lost the championship because Charles Woodson won the Heisman instead of Peyton Manning. -

One thing I admire about America....
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Vanhalen's topic in Current Events
The absolute right of the people to unilaterally dissolve all powers of the federal government is clearly stated in Virginia's ratification of the Constitution. Virginia wasn't the only state fighting for the confederates in the civil war. Probably true. However, it does disprove your notion that the entire group committed treason. -=Mike Regardless of whether or not we are dealing with treason in the technical sense (although I would certainly say it's a better use of the word than the way Ann Coulter applies it), I don't see why people would want to honour a flag that represents an army that fought against the United States of America. I particularly don't get why Republicans defend it when Abraham Lincoln was the president of the USA at the time. -

Because the presidents of the universities don't want them. At the end of the day, the university's purpose is to provide the best system combining academics and athletics, not the most popular one with the couch potatoes who watch games on TV. -

The confederate flag is the symbol of a group that commited treason against the United States of America. Personally I think it should be banned completely. -
I think you just illustrated my biggest beef with modern politics (in the US, at least): this false dilemma that democracy is about picking between two different viewpoints, or else you have a dictatorship. It's possible to have a lot more than just two parties, each with differing viewpoints on enough issues to make them all fundamentally distinct from one another.

The Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, for starters. Now, not every sedition was peaceful (Croatia's split certainly wasn't), but some of them (Slovenia, for instance) were granted independence without incident.
-
Seperatist nationalism is NOT treasonous. No one in the Bloc is advocating the violent overthrow of the Canadian government or something similarly ridiculous. The mere presence of the Clarity Act shows that the government of Canada recognizes the legitimacy of the seperatist movement and is requiring it to act under the laws of the country, as one would expect.

The Ronald Reagan National Defense Building?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
I think FDR and Reagan deserve more than to share a piece of currency. -
Funny, most of the pre-series articles I've been reading from the media have been of the "here's why Detroit can beat the Lakers" variety.

The Ronald Reagan National Defense Building?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
I mentioned this in the other thread. This is really one of the stupidest ideas I've heard. "The Pentagon", both in name and in appearance, is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Can you imagine how crappy this would make Tom Clancy-type movies? Harrison Ford: GET ME THE PENTAGON! vs. Harrison Ford: GET ME THE RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL DEFENSE BUILDING! -
411 writer Eric Szulczewski spits on Reagan's tomb
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
I think it's mostly just because people don't want one of their favorites bumped off of currency in favor of someone else. Personally I think they should go with the $10 bill route since Hamilton isn't a president. On a related note, someone today was actually suggesting that they rename the Pentagon after Reagan. Personally I think that's a bad idea, it's too well-known both in name and in appearance. -
Not if they want to make the NBA.

I have to laugh about people calling Scott Keith a "Canadian leftist" when he has been quite public in the past of his support for the populist right wing Reform/Canadian Alliance party. -
I think people are worrying too much because they are assuming the level of evidence required would be the same as what they are used to in a US court. The US/British system is FAR more favorable to the criminal than whatever Hussein will be facing, in terms of burden of proof at least.

Whats your favourite sports memory of all time?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Vanhalen's topic in Sports
-The Red Wings winnings Cups in 1997, 2002, and most of all 1998. Vladimir Konstantinov with the Stanley Cup in his lap and all of the Wings surrounding him was one of the most beautiful moments in the history of sports. -The 2004 Masters. "Is it his time?...Yes!" was one of the great calls I've ever heard.
