Electoral-vote.com has the rules up for tonight's "debate", and it's pretty much going to be impossible for either candidate to win or lose, especially big. The questions are all submitted in advance, neither the moderator nor the person asking is allowed to deviate from the pre-approved question, the mic gets cut off after the question is asked, and neither of the candidates are allowed to debate with each other. As they put it, it's effectively two press conferences happening in the same room.

I honestly don't think ads featuring Bill Ayers are going to be as effective as they hope, because the types of people are are targeting with them will see him and Obama and wonder what this has to do with terrorism, since Ayers is a white guy.

The results of today's Oklahoma and Alabama games confirm that the voters at least got #1 right last week.

I'm actually glad Baylor is getting some scores against Oklahoma, because as long as the gap is under 5 or 6 TDs, Stoops will probably leave Bradford in the game and let him pick up some more stats.

John McCain pulling out of Michigan Presumably McCain is going to put all his eggs in the "flip Pennsylvania" basket or something.

The Billary strategy, Republican version. Levistol? It sounds like a new penis heart medication for McCain or something.

BYU stands a good chance of getting to the title game if they are undefeated (and obviously if there are not two undefeated BCS conference teams), especially if Utah is also undefeated when those two meet up, and BYU wins. If Utah wins that game and ends up undefeated, I think they would have a chance, but it wouldn't be as strong as BYU's due to a lower starting position and less historical pedigree. The most likely teams to go undefeated in the BCS (in my opinion) are USC, one of Oklahoma or Missouri, and Penn State, in that order. I don't think anyone comes out of the SEC unbeaten this year, and while I think USC is more susceptible to a dumb loss than either Oklahoma or Missouri (due to the overall wackiness of the Pac-10 in recent seasons), the latter two both have a tough game against Texas on their schedules before any hypothetical unbeaten-vs-unbeaten Big 12 championship game. USC should win all of their remaining games on paper, but nothing is guaranteed out on the west coast, as we have seen.

I'm not really that impressed with Florida to be honest, and I continue to be perplexed as to how Tim Tebow can still be in the top 10 of so many of these Heisman trophy rankings, let alone 1st-3rd.

Observations from today's Ducks game: 1. We lost, which obviously sucked. But making a comeback in the 4th quarter was exciting, and might keep us in the 21-25 range of the rankings. Plus it's not a Pac-10 game so it doesn't hurt in terms of the conference standings. 2. Darron Thomas looked great and although it sucks to remove his redshirt, at this point he should be starting the next game, and maybe every game after that. He looked like a young Dennis Dixon when he was in the pocket, he's got a bright future on this team. 3. Chris Harper may need to change positions, as it's clear at this point he can't throw the ball and he's not going to play over Thomas, but he can still be an effective weapon in the running game. 4. The Ducks' passing defense was a major disappointment, particularly in terms of the number of big plays they gave up. For a team with so many talented players in the secondary, they need to perform a lot better than that. 5. Jeremiah Johnson and Legarette Blount form a great speed-and-power running attack. Blount's hurdle on a touchdown run should be highlight reel material. If Thomas can bring some balance to the offense with some semblance of a passing game, the Ducks still have plenty of games and time to make some noise this season. 6. The cheerleaders looked as slutty as ever, with skirts that barely covered their asses, tops that were glorified sports bras, and routines that were only missing the pole. God Bless America!

bwaaa? Conference, sorry. I was more confused about the implication than the choice of terms; since Oregon's in the Pac-10 and Boise in the WAC, the only sort of championship chances this could affect would be those of the national variety. The implication is that Boise State's the only undefeated team left in the WAC, and this would help them keep an edge on the only ranked team in their conference, Fresno State, and Oregon needs to stay undefeated as well to have a shot at the Pac-10 title with USC. Not to mention there's that whole "Boise State's playing with the big boys to prove they belong" thing. I hope I can get this at least on a regional broadcast. The game is supposed to be on Oregon Sports Network and/or CSN Northwest, so I'm pretty sure you will be able to pick it up in Portland (or at the very least watch it at a bar). I'll be there live and in color in the student section, as usual.

So apparently "The View" is just too hard-hitting and inquisitive an interview for John McCain. I guess he can always do another spread for People Magazine. Anyone think that a McCain administration would quickly reach Nixon levels of paranoia and avoidance of the "unfriendly media"?

Probably only if they really kill Arizona State. A win over ASU doesn't hold anywhere near the value it did before the Sun Devils went out and lost to UNLV.
-
Almost certainly, which will bring on a ton of complaining from down south about how Oklahoma didn't have to beat a "tough SEC team" like South Carolina and instead got to beat up on a weak Pac-10 team in Washington. And yes, the latter part of that statement is true (Washington sucks something fierce), but I still think based on the games so far this year, Oklahoma looks considerably more impressive than Georgia (a major reason being that Sam Bradford is 10 times the QB that Matt Stafford is). More bad news for Georgia is that their marquee OOC game next week against ASU looks a lot less impressive after Arizona State got beat by UNLV, they may still be ranked but it will probably be in the 20s. Right now my prediction would be USC vs. Big 12 winner (either Oklahoma or Missouri) for the championship.

I ended up watching a lot of football today and would opine that the USC cheerleaders are easily the hottest I saw. The least attractive: Purdue. Awful, awful game. Ohio State should be able to win the Big Ten, but it's hard to imagine them being allowed back in the title game after being so thoroughly embarrassed on nation television like this. Every other BCS conference team would have to lose two games. Yeah I am pretty sure OSU is done after tonight. USC I am sure is going to lose at least one game they shouldn't, but probably not two. If the Big 12 and SEC champions end up with only one loss then those teams is clearly going to be ahead of OSU, and possibly even with two losses depending on who they are. Right now I seriously think one of Oklahoma or Missouri could run the table. And even though USC is going to be easily #1 in the polls tomorrow, I think Oklahoma might be the best team in college football at this point. What would be really funny is if Penn State ran the table (not impossible) and ended up in the title game, after all the anti-Big 10 homers have their night of celebration today with OSU's loss. Oh, and as far as their cheerleader discussion goes, I thought Oklahoma's were the prettiest, from the glimpse I got. Ours (Oregon's) are definitely the skankiest though, both in terms of outfits and routine. So, um, go us!

MARYLAND is just taking Cal to the woodshed right now, 28-6. You can set your watch to Cal underachieving each year.

Sarah Palin links Iraq with 9-11 Sarah Palin apparently learned her foreign policy history from Rudy Giuliani's convention speech.

Here's my typical eating pattern for a day where my girlfriend and I don't eat out: 1. Breakfast -One or two cups of coffee with skim milk. We buy bags of whole beans at Costco and then grind them at home. The skim milk is to cool the coffee down a bit, plus I like the added smoothness. and one of the following: -A cup of cereal (right now I'm eating a corn flakes/Macadamia nut/cranberry cereal from Costco, I also really like Peace Cereals, especially Maple Pecan) with a cup of skim milk. This is my usual "just woke up and have to be at work/school in an hour" breakfast. -A spinach and cheese omlette consisting of 2 eggs, a handful of baby spinach, and some cheese grated on top. Sometimes this ends up wrapped in a fresh tortilla. Everything is cooked in either olive oil or fat-free cooking spray. I eat this if I have just come back from a morning run and/or weightlifting session. 2. Lunch -A Lean Pocket. This is my crappy food for the day, because it's processed and contains a bunch of mediocre ingredients, along with too much sodium. But it's fast, low in fat, and low calorie. I can make it in my office and eat while working on other stuff. 3. Snack (post-afternoon workout) -A big piece of cheese and a handful of raw almonds. Occasionally something else if it's around, like hummus, blueberries, and other fruits. 4. Dinner -A roasted, baked, barbequed, or poached lean meat, usually chicken breast or salmon. Occasionally chicken sausages for something cheaper and quicker. -A serving of starch, usually in the form of cous-cous. Occasional substitutes here include whole wheat naan bread, fresh tortillas, and sweet potatoes. -Lots of vegetables, usually some combination of roasted carrots, boiled peas, and steamed or boiled broccoli. cauliflower, and mixed vegetables. -A glass of homemade iced tea, sweetened with lemon slices. -A bowl of sorbet, low-fat sherbet, or some other kind of ice cream type dessert.

I'm guessing that if someone called Sarah Palin an "empty skirt", they would be denounced as sexist by the same people who have been calling Obama an "empty suit" this whole election cycle.
-
Campbell Brown just tore the Republicans to pieces today on CNN over the "lipstick on a pig controversy". I'm really starting to like that woman.
-
Apparently the expression "lipstick on a pig" has never existed and was invented by Barack Obama specifically to refer to Sarah Palin. Or at least, that's what Republican talking heads would have you believe.
-
While I agree that pre-season polls are retarded, you re proposing ranking them highly because they beat two teams who were ranked highly in the preseason polls, not necessarily two good teams.
-
So it's pretty clear the top 3 after this week are going to be USC, Georgia, and Oklahoma in some order, while Ohio State is dropping down to 4th, and possibly 5th depending on what Florida does to Da Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu tonight.
-
"Potential BCS buster" BYU sure isn't looking like one, tied 21-21 with Jake Locker's one-man-show in the 4th quarter.
-
Hey Iggy, are you still doing rankings or planning to do them?

24, Boston Legal, Criminal Minds, and Desperate Housewives (the last one is bf/gf time viewing, and a lot more fun to watch than the repetitive and tedious Grey's Anatomy) Besides those, I may check out a few random things. Plus lots of sports of course, particularly college football and NHL hockey.
