I think that's because even the ultra-partisan crowd at the RNC realized "Holy shit, Mitt Romney talking derisively about East-coast elites is just too ironic and hypocritical to support, even for us!"

A bigger factor in Georgia dropping than who they played is that their starting left tackle and one of their defensive tackles are out for the season. Now, the LT injury happened before the season started, but a lot of the preseason poll ballots had already been submitted. Stewart Mandel from SI.com (one of the voters who moved USC up to #1) had the Bulldogs at number 1 on his preseason ballot (before the injury), then dropped them in his preseason power rankings after finding out about it. Regardless, the rankings we get a major shakeup after USC plays Ohio State and Georgia plays ASU.

Who wants to bet that "Spy Movie" goes in the completely illogical direction of including a "parody" of Austin Powers? I'm surprised they haven't done "Comic Book Movie" although I'm sure that's in the works somewhere.

They should just title them all something like "Pop Culture Movie" or "Celebrity Movie" and give up the pretense that they are actually making parodies of a genre or specific film. Parody-type movies have really gone downhill quickly from the days of Hot Shots, Hot Shots: Part Deux, Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and so on. I think the last one I actually enjoyed was "Not Another Teen Movie", which was cheesy but at least did a good job of parodying its chosen genre.

I thought Obama was supposed to be the celebrity candidate? No sign of McCain's adopted daughter in that photo...

Nah I'm a Duck going on 5 years. And what's great about this season is they changed the student ticket distribution system, so now it's all online, on Sunday, and each class grouping gets 20% of the tickets. Not only is this extra good percentage wise for my group (grad students) but it also means we don't have to waste a Monday waiting in line with a million freshmen who don't have to teach class and don't care about missing theirs.

I'll be at Autzen on Saturday to see if whoever the Ducks stick under center (presumably Justin Roper at this point) can tear the Huskies a new one. I'm cautiously optimistic about this season because even though QB is the last place you want to have your big question mark, all the other positions are looking pretty solid. I think a top 15 finish for the Ducks isn't impossible, but I don't think there are going to be any Championship Game dreams like there were until Dixon's knee went adios.

What's with this obsession Republican talking heads and operatives have with Obama and arugula? Obama criticizes McCain for not knowing how many houses he owns, and his spokesman comes back with a retort that includes Obama's choice of salad?

Alicia Sacramone is NOT hot, she is easily the most overrated among the girls the net geeks are drooling about during this Olympics. Her legs are the same size as mine (I'm 185 pounds and run, climb, and bike constantly), and her neck is thicker than Brian Urlacher's,

Personally I'm a bit disappointed to see the price of gas going down again. It was finally starting to get high enough that a large number of Americans were actually making behavioral changes that would be beneficial over the long term, rather than just bitching about the price of gas and the government, and going about business as usual.

Now, it looks like Dark Knight should be able to get around or past 500 million, but probably won't have the legs to pass Titanic. -However- If it does generate serious Oscar buzz with multiple nominations (with some in the serious categories, like picture or director), and wins a few (particularly something like Ledger for supporting actor), could a second theatrical run around Oscar time generate enough heat to push it past Titanic?

It's called a minivan. Yeah, I know a lot of people think "OMG a minivan that's soooooooo stupid I will NEVER drive that!" to which I would reply "Then stop bitching about the price of gas!". Also, a lot of people way over-estimate what they "need" their enormous SUV to be able to do. Case in point that clueless mom from Marvin's link who would rather drive a car with less gas mileage because the fill-up is smaller. She needs a massive SUV to haul around "3 kids and all their soccer equipment". Are you kidding me? Soccer equipment is a bag of balls, some shinpads and cleats, and their uniforms (assuming they are not already wearing them). You could easily and comfortably fit 3 kids into my Jetta and all that stuff mentioned into the deceptively huge trunk. Want a real example of when an SUV can be useful? My friend has a Ford Explorer, not an enormous gas-guzzler by any means. A while back we went climbing on Mt. Adams in Washington, which includes an approach by a rough dirt road about 10 miles long to the trailhead. We had 5 people comfortably in the car with 250 pounds of climbing gear in the back. And we didn't need an Escalade, Yukon, Suburban, or any other oversized gas devouring beast.

Clinton is still going on with her "I won the popular vote" nonsense. Does she really think that anyone buys her count that excludes caucus states but includes a primary whose voters can't vote in the general, a primary where her name was the only one on the ballot, and a primary where no one campaigned and she won on name recognition?

Anyone else hear this rumor about Tucker Carlson possibly throwing his hat in the ring for the Libertarian nomination?
