The Neuromancer trilogy, Snow Crash and the Diamond Age (which has the best first 2/3rds and most blah ending ever) Shakespeare esp. Richard III and the comedies George RR Martin's Song of Ice & Fire series (here's hoping it ends well.

I'm pretty fucking liberal and: Nerv ever ever ever ever (a la Funk) Should a man who gives up his anonymous spunk be beholden to it. Fuckin ridiculous.

Jesus, i feel dumb. i knew it was Pfeiffer. Freudian slip, since it said in an article I was reading today that Kidman was offered the role before Berry. And turned it down, because you know, just because you CAN turn down scripts. Berry was the worst thing in the X-movies, anyway. I like the character but good riddance. She was really, really stiff. Hope they give some explanation/cameo though. SP-1: If you live anywhere near a college, you should have a couple of second-hand stores. I ALWAYS see Batman at those type of stores, much cheaper than a discount megamart. Oh, and muchas gracias for the picture, Downhome. Think it'll be my background for a while.

Watched it about a week ago, and it's about the scariest movie I've seen in years. Quite similar to Ringu in terms of how it presents its ghosts, but much, much scarier, IMHO. (also it's Japanese, i hadn't made that clear) I've heard they're doing an American remake of the movie, and all I have to say, is they better not do the same thing as the Ring, changing scary-ass Sadako into a little girl with CG effects. Spring a couple bucks and get that FREAKY FREAKY Japanese actress to reprise the part, I'm sure gurgling in a creepy manner translates just fine to English.

This looks about a million times worse than swordfish. I also think if they were just going for the 'Halle Berry is hot! see it!' angle, they could've just gone with the costume from Batman Returns. They made Nicole Kidman look crazy hot AND dangerous. That costume does NOT look very good (doesn't look good on her face at all), and would be pretty much impossible to be spry in. Doesn't it have high heels? At least they had the good sense to try to top the lightning/Toad one-liner like 5 TIMES in the trailer alone. Soon Halle Berry's going to be like Arnie; you see her and all you think are cheesy one-liners.

One of my favorite entertaining matches, even though it ain't super-great is a barb-wire exploding ring match from Japan with Funk vs. Onita. It's on one of the Schneider comps. Decent garbage wrestling, some good barb wire shots, entertaining drunk Funk selling, the match is an okay watch, it's the finish that makes it. The countdown to the ring exploding is audibly playing over the PA. Funk is lying completely motionless in the middle of the ring. Onita has escaped the ring, and is pacing, apparently distressed. As the countdown approached zero, Onita seems to reach a decision, and darts into the ring, and covers Funk up, protecting him from the explosion. (which looks pretty good) The crowd, which has been completely apeshit the whole match goes DEAD silent. As the camera is focused on the ring, which is so shrouded in smoke that the figures of the wrestlers cannot be seen, the BIGGEST CHEESIEST guitar solo I have ever had the privelege of hearing begins to blare over the PA. It continues to play until the bodies of Funk and Onita can be seen. Cut to the dressing room. Funk cuts a good promo in front of Onita, saying he loves and respects him, but he can't let him(Onita) beat him(Funk), and walks out of the room. Zoom in on Onita staring soulfully after him, tears running down his face. Then a cool shot of Onita exiting the arena, and the fence outside being packed tight with screaming Japanese fans, whom he salutes. Epic.

Damn, I've never had a subscription to Playboy, or even bought a magazine (Not above that sort of thing, but hey, I have the net.) And the only Playboy model I can name is Karen Mcdougal, (besides probably a couple from the 60's) just because she's super-cute, and not of the norm for their model types. She's (or to be fair, was, since i haven't seen her in anything in years) far more distinctive looking, and IMO pretty than Carmella.

Plus, what kind of meaningful conversation is Supes going to have with a villain. It's hard to have a deep villain when your nemesis just tells you to stop breaking stuff, then kicks your ass. Speaking of Wolvie, you know who was always kickass? Lady Deathstrike.

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage

Don't think many people thought it would pass at all, however, the discussion of gay marriage is hardly a moot topic. Anything that inspires this much debate may very well be worthy of debate. -
The OAO Cancelled Shows that Should be Back Thread
Special K replied to a topic in Television & Film
Sports Night is #1 (although then I wouldn't have 6' under, currently like my second fave show) No one for My So-Called life? I wouldn't watch it NOW, but it was great as a young teen. Lucky was quite good. I would say NewsRadio, except even though it was still kind of funny, I found it too hard to watch after Phil Hartman was killed. Mr. Show for damn sure, unless they ended it voluntarily. And Cowboy Bebop could have ran for many a season. Not cancelled per se, since the creators had a story line that they ran through then that was it. (could of gone a long time too, since I hear it was WILDLY popular in Japan.) -
I'd say yes. Sure he's crazy right-wing, but he's got to know there's good people in Moscow. It's not like he's in love with New York. I believe that's made apparent by the first four words in the series. (isn't it 'this city has rabies'?)
-
I think he's a terrific VILLAIN, and I like the way he looks (having been familiar with him for forever), but sometimes you have to step back and say, eh, he looks kinda dumb. On the other hand I would have given my right nut if Defoe had dressed up like that.

About the Goblins: Pointy Boots. Does not work for anyone. Upon some more consideration, Daredevil has a decent list: Kingpin, Punisher (take him of Spidey's list, he's definitely here) Elektra, Bullseye, and of course YEEEEEEENINJAS~!

AoA. I was just saying that many of us have already actually seen it in nature. I'd certainly be interested in the website though. And NoCal. I completely agree. There are many wonderful religions, and many wonderful religious people. However, as long as the government kowtows to religious interests, people will use religion as a tool of power. It doesn't matter if they believe in the basic tenets of the religion. They will use it to keep down others whom they do not approve of. They say that this nation is a Christian nation, and that may be largely true, but people forget that this country essentially was started by people hoping to escape religious persecution. Again, we live in the USA, why should anyone be denied the right to do as they please, if it doesn't hurt anyone else? Of course, a whole bunch of liberal groups would be much better served if they were concerned with larger issues than piddly shit like taking under God out of the Pledge. -

Yeah. 'Reforming' gays may sometimes be successful, I have no idea, but it can honestly ruin lives. Of them, and of their family. The reason pretty much no one in government can bring up the religious argument, or even say that homosexuality is immoral is because, besides from religious arguments, there is really no basis for it. This is why they've changed the whole argument to marriage is completely, 100% about having kids, and not love which is grade-A bullshit. Don't believe me? Just look at wedding vows. I can understand why some people object to homosexuality. It's part of their religion, they're grossed out, whatever. Their right. But this is about legal rights. And I believe the only 'institution' that should be held in higher regard than individual freedoms in this country is the government itself. -

Any number of people could post pictures of their dogs humping. No that I'm actually suggesting it. Just stating a fact. -
Waffle House can be pretty good, compared to Denny's and others like it. I shudder at the thought of the person who would order their 4 pork shop dinner, though. I've never been to an in & out, but my friend RAVES about them constantly. I gotta say, while I was in the south, I went to a Rally's exactly once, and it was pretty awesome. For anyone who lives in Seattle, however, there is no alternative but the heavenly place known as Dick's drive-thru. There's like 6 locations, they're constantly packed, they sell 4 sandwiches, all precious in their own way. (all variations of meat, american cheese, lettuce, relish and condiments) They also have milkshakes, soda and fries. And Ice Cream that is all. But what they do, they do well. And cheaply. Also, they pay their employees well, and give them benefits, which makes me much more likely to go there than say, Jack in the Box.

Yeah, it just bugs me. I have access to the single greatest video rental store on the face of the earth, absolutely no exaggeration, called Scarecrow Video. Some people have no access to it besides buying it at like $10 an episode from Suncoast/Amazon.

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage
Special K replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Let me preface this by saying I certainly respect your faith and am not attacking, but am asking. I am also fairly well-versed in catholicism, but have questions about it. There is SIGNIFICANT evidence that being gay is determined by genetics. I'm not gay, so i can't speak for it, but I don't think I'd EVER want to have sex with a man. Why would anyone ever choose to A) go against their nature and B) endure the ridicule of others. I would hate to think that God would essentially make someone choose between being lonely for the rest of their lives and their faith. Certainly some go into the priesthood and choose to live a life of celibacy, but that's a choice. Many 'reformed' homosexuals leave marriage and children because they can't be what they are not. Why one earth would you do that if sexuality was an easy thing to choose from? Here's a question: Is there anywhere in the new testament outisde of Paul's letters that decries being gay? I'm sure we'll agree to disagree on this one. You sound like a true Christian, and not one of the many Christians who decide to do whatever they like, but pick parts of the Bible to crap on people who they don't like. I know many, many self-described Christians who'll do whatever they like you know, drinkin' and fightin' and sex before marriage, and then say that God hates gays. In worse langauge. I personally say: If you aren't hurting anyone, then I don't begrudge anyone their actions. -
The real shit isn't so much the abuse at abu ghirab, IMO. It's that even our intelligence says that the majority of prisoners there are innocent. If you're that uncertain about someone's innocence or lack thereof, you shouldn't be pushing the boundaries and seeing how close you can get to torture without it being legally torture. Even if the Geneva convention allows torture of enemy combatants, they better be people who demonstrably attacked you. You can't treat every damn suspect in Iraq as an enemy combatant.

You know what pisses me off? A) The amendment has some wording that makes it look very much like it would ban civil unions. That's some fucked-up shit. B) Bush has to know this has zero chance to pass. He's just pushing it because it's a wedge issue. I think the solution is to leave it to the state. I think the gay and lesbian community may end up actually setting itself back if they keep pushing the issue, though, seeing as the great majority of the US is against it. Go for civil unions first. -
The rop break during I Quit/Cage/NHB matches has ALWAYS pissed me off. Conversely, if you're in a last man standing match, and someone gets you in a deadly submission, why don't you IMMEDIATELY tap, and then take the 10 count to get your wind. Hell, you could tap out if you're having a hard time getting out of an arm wringer. EDIT: Why on earth does the Russian legsweep hurt? Also, why is getting stunned on a flat chair / table more painful? It was clearly stated numerous times that the point of the stunner was to injure the other wrestlers' throats (as opposed to necks like a Diamond Cutter) Tommy Dreamer had the right idea: he stunnered someone's throat on to the edge of a chair. OUCH. And I understand this is something to take on faith but: Why do so many wrestlers throw closed fist punches in matches contested under normal rules? I mean getting socked in the face 3 times is a LOT worse than getting suplexed. Sorta ruins the illusion.

It would seem that anime's pretty big business nowadays, and they could get a few decent voice actors. and yet the only anime's I like as much dubbed are Bebop and Ranma. I heard they ABSOLUTELY butchered Escaflowne, running it in a kiddy time slot, removing most fighting, any reference to the 'situation' with Dilandau, and actually cutting like 4 eps total worth of material. How are you going to do that? every single espisode of that show is essential! It was planned as a 2 season long anime at first, which is why it moves so quickly! God, that fuckin' disgusts me. Cause it's such a damn good show. Also, since they cut Gundam (do to some shit about 9/11 and maybe because of lack of interest since the animation's old school) They have decided to translate all this shitty drivel like G Gundam and SD Gundam and not translate Zeta Gundam (the direct sequel which I know for a fact is terrific, since I got sick of the shit and bought a bootleg) Char's counterattack (actually heard they might translate, but fuck it if they miss everything between the beginning and the end of the story.) or some of the supposedly great side stories in the main timeline like 0083. That is boolshit. EDIT: Thank the good Lord that Miyazaki made Disney state that they wouldn't alter a single frame of his work, or we'd 3 musical numbers in Spirited Away and Mononoke would be the part with the cute forest sprited looped for 80 minutes so hey could get a G rating. (Off-topic rant over. sorry)
