..and like everyone thought, Ubi announces that Assassin's Creed is coming to the 360. Excellent.
-
There's apparently a "real" Mega Buster (as opposed to the toy one), but you've got to reach Zombie Genocider (53,000 something) to get it.
-
Honestly, I'll just stick with the 360.
The PS3's too far overpriced, and none of the "big" franchises are a real priority.
Nintendo ..eh. The Wii's control system doesn't appeal to me. To compare it to anything, it'll likely mostly filled with a bunch of minigame compilations, non-games, and games that do nothing but revolve around the system's gimmick, like the DS. Add to that the chance of a severe drought of anything but first party titles like the GC had, and I'm not sold.

Speaking of Graphics vs. Gameplay, I got my new EGM the other day and in it was an interview with Satoru Iwata about the Wii and the question of the Wii being less powerful than the other two consoles came up.Iwata: [After talking about the fact that the console is connected to the 'net 24/7] With an innovation like this, we feel that the need to compete with other systems in terms of graphical power becomes less relevant. The kind of sustainable innovation we're used to seeing means that last generation you might have seen 50 characters onscreen, and that now you'd be able to have 500. Sure, that can influence gameplay a little, but that kind of innovation is really just something that requires more hardware power, more manpower---and as you continue to go down that path, the only companies that can really be profitable are big publishers with very strong franchises.I think about a game like Tetris, which was developed 20 years ago by one Russian scientist. If he were to make it now and pitch it to a publisher, they would probably tell him to go back and add better graphics, more levels, CG-cut scenes, and possibly even a movie license to make it sell more. If someone were to come up with the idea that could be the next Tetris-type phenomenon---a very simple, very fun game---it wouldn't be approved. We want to encourage more people to be more creative, and to open up development to people who don't have the resources to do the type of development these other consoles require. It's these new, different, innovative ideas that will broaden the interactive entertainment experience. Some people look at this and consider it risky, and in some ways it is, but at the same time the potential for success will he huge if we can pull it off.
It is a VERY interesting interview and after reading it all (it's in the June EGM and probably will be on EGM's page at 1up.com soon), I'm even more inclined to go with a Wii.
Wow. He managed to use the word "innovation" only four times. I'm shocked.
On that second paragraph..isn't Live Arcade -already- doing that?

Berserk really didn't end, though.
It just continues into the manga, which is worth tracking down if you liked the series.
-
It's a (very) in depth strategy game, but Hearts of Iron 2 will let you do pretty much anything in WWII.
-
I don't. Then again, I don't really feel any urge to get a PS3, either.
None of the "big" franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, MGS, etc) really do anything for me. Am I alone in that respect, or what?
-
It isn't innovative if it's been done before.
-
For $500/600? No thanks. Nothing in that video was even that impressive.
Funny to hear all the uproar online about how they "ripped off Nintendo" with the controller. Right, like Nintendo invented the tilt sensor.
-
If it's that bad, shouldn't it just be deleted, instead of used for post padding?

It's funny to hear people complaining about how bad the WWE board is, then have blatantly off topic crap like this going on. Not to mention, it's the same guy derailing both threads. There's already a board for this sort of thing, so why not use it instead of trying to be witty and get yourself over?

Ugh, that Full Auto demo is absolute shit. Also, OXM reviewed the game already and gave it a score of 5.5/10 so it doesn't look good at all.OXBM also has Burnout Revenge as one of their highest rated games of all time. They can't be trusted worth shit.

Can you move the "____ champion" things to the profile instead of above the avatar? It's annoying as hell when it stretches things out.

Can somebody explain Halo online? There are these players with medals...and I can't kill anyone. I play CounterStrike Source a lot but I feel so confused playing this game online. The medals don't really mean anything they're just there to boost someone's ego to be honest with you. Basically Halo is based off a ranking system unless your doing a custom game, but most custom games now are just done so people can find a secret or learn how to do a super jump in a certain level. Many people don't play capture the flag or anything on custom games now. So since there is a ranking system in place, people try there damnest to win the game and I mean win the game by anyway they can, and that way is mainly cheating. You will come to realize that there is basically just modders and cheaters now and you'll barely ever find a game where somone isn't cheating in some way or form. Anything else that you may want to know?
Translation: It's like every other multiplayer FPS on the planet.

I've been playing numerous things. Played a VERY little bit of PGR(5 mins or so) and enjoyed it, although I really should play it more. Haven't played Call of Duty 2 yet. I've played both Madden 06 and Nba 2K6. I've enjoyed NBA 2K6 a lot although there really isnt a difference between it and the Xbox version(other than graphically of course). Madden 06 for 360 has been a pretty huge dissapointment. Looks great, otherwise, it's not so great.Thinking bout buying Condemned, or atleast renting it, but I'm not really sure if I'm going to or not.
If you're on Live, just download the Condemed demo.

Try asking the folks at the twcenter.net forums. They've helped me when my game was messing up.
It shouldn't release until Fall, so there's some time to do upgrading.

I know we've got a few Total War fans here, right?
CA announced the next in the series - Medieval 2. The first game was running on the same engine that Shogun was, and looks fairly primitive today. This one's going to be using an upgraded version of Rome's engine, and the system requirements are basically the same.
Rome was a both a downgrade and an upgrade from MTW, personally. It looked prettier, but lacked the depth the earlier game had.
Anyway, there will be at least 10,000 person battles this time, and no more "clone" soldiers - they're going to be different from each other. It's also a longer campaign this time around, from 1080 to 1530. At least 21 playable factions, which is good news. They're considering upping the limit of factions to at least 30, which would help the modders out tremendously.
Faction list: England, France, Scotland, Holy Roman Empire, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Milan, Venice, Papal States, Sicily, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Byzantium, The Turks, Egypt, The Moors, The Mongols, The Tumurids, The Aztecs.
Best of all, the event movies are back from Shogun. So if your assassin takes someone out, you'll get to see it. The religion system's also back (Catholic, Orthodox, Islam, Pagan), which means you'll be able to declare Crusades, or even get one of your priests elected to be Pope. *cackles*
Check out some of these screenshots, too.

Part of the increase between PSX and PS2/DC wasn't just the power of the consoles, it was the fact that developers were just getting better.
The early 3D games just looked terrible. Part of that was because they'd just switched from sprite-based games to polygon based ones, and the results weren't pretty. By the time the PS2 and DC rolled around, the devs had a lot more time to adjust.
PGR3, COD2, and Condemned all look amazing, but I do have a good HD setup. Also, all of those were developed just for the 360 anyway.
I can't say anything for DOA, because I haven't played it since 3. Ultimate wasn't that long ago, was it? They likely just reused stuff from that, which would be the developer's fault.
Ports are going to be a problem with underwhelming graphics. Unless you have a developer who's smart enough to develop for the better system first (Ubisoft, particularly with the Clancy games) and then downgrade it for the lesser ones, they're going to be ugly. Hell, all of EA, Activision, and Midway's Xbox games look like PS2 ports..and most are. EA's particularly bad with developing things for PS2 first, then just bringing it to Xbox.
Also, for anyone doubting the jump in graphics, take a look at the screenshots or movies for the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. That's going to be insane.

A lot of the questions are just stupid, though.
Especially the "Wouldn't you be pissed if you paid $400 for a new console and many of its games looked only marginally better than their current-gen equivalents?" bit.
Gee, a bunch of ports from Activision and EA don't look much better than the Xbox ones, and the guy acts like it's a major revelation. He harps on it for about half a page, and it's just idiotic.
(Notice, there's no mention of the games that clearly do look better. Take PGR2 and PGR3, and compare them side-by-side. Or Call of Duty 2 with the original. )
The guy also does a lot of nitpicking. Backwards compatibility, noise (It's a PC stuffed into a tiny case, and you're shocked it's loud?), and the voice chat echo (which has been around since the original Xbox launched).
The BC bit is the worst, where he keeps bringing up that games like Barbie worked and Spinter Cell didn't (at the time), and keeps acting like it's a major disaster.
Woah, you mean the games with more advanced effects are going to take longer to emulate? No way! It's not like the PS2, which has the PS1 chipset inside of it. The 360 runs on completely different hardware, and that's been known forever.
It's like the interviewer's just trying to get himself over, so it looks like he's asking the "tough questions". Maybe it wouldn't be so hypocritical if EGM wasn't complete shit anyway.

The Shoe/Hsu (EGM guy) interview with Peter Moore is pretty awesome in its bluntness.Moore tries to squirm out of them but just dodges, bullshits, and lies.
Since game magazines are not real journalism anyway, it's ridiculous for game mags to have so many dull, pre-fielded interviews.
Except for the fact he's a marketing guy, and that's what they do.
Hsu sounds less like a journalist, and more like someone off the PS2 fanboy forums. Pathetic.

I have the disc for XI, but it's a pain to set up.
Stupid Squeenix.
-
Actually, there's player now that'll handle both.
I hope Blu-Ray becomes Sony's next Betamax, though.

Everyone's back?
It's palette swappin' time!

*shudders at the mention of Lockdown*
If you find the original SC a bit too anal on objectives, skip the sequel (Pandora Tommorow) and go straight for the third, Chaos Theory, which is the best in the series.

Well, it's coming to PC, 360, and PS3 already..and this is Ubi.
Also, Xenosaga 3's censored.
Worst, the game is heavily censored. Namco Bandai, in its efforts to get a T rating, has sucked all of the blood out of the game. Normally it wouldn't much matter, but major plot points of this game center around brutal violence - including the climactic scene in which the biggest twist in the plot of the entire series is revealed. It's an insult to the fans that have tread the rocky path this series has taken.
