  1. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp...298.htm&sc=1110 Condit Sues Over Chandra Levy Articles By JILL BARTON WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Former Rep. Gary Condit sued The National Enquirer and other tabloids for $38 million on Friday, alleging they falsely connected him with the 2001 murder of federal intern Chandra Levy. The California Democrat alleges that the Enquirer, Globe and Star Magazine tabloids, along with parent company American Media Inc., maliciously published defamatory statements that Condit ``was involved in deviant and perverted sexual conduct, which directly or indirectly led to the kidnapping and/or murder of Ms. Levy,'' according to the suit filed in Palm Beach County circuit court. AMI General Counsel Michael Kahane said in a statement that the Boca Raton-based company ``will vigorously defend any suit filed by Mr. Condit'' and that he expects it to be dismissed. ``We fully stand behind the editorial integrity of what we have published,'' the statement said. Condit's lawsuit details 45 pages of headlines he alleges were false and defamatory, such as ``Congressman & the intern. Chandra killed in kinky sex game!'' The lawsuit claims the tabloids failed to reasonably investigate the stories and paid sources for the false statements ``in a calculated effort'' to boost profits. During the yearlong investigation into Levy's disappearance, Condit told police he had a romance with Levy but knew nothing of her disappearance. He is not considered a suspect in her unsolved death, which was ruled a homicide after her remains were discovered in a Washington, D.C., park in May 2002. The case drew months of negative publicity and was cited as the main cause of Condit's re-election defeat in the March 2002 primary. His wife, Carolyn, settled a lawsuit with the Enquirer for an undisclosed amount in July. Condit has another lawsuit pending, an $11 million defamation complaint, against author Dominick Dunne.

Hilary Duff Feuding Over a Boy

http://www.chknhwk.com/ Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan start a teen feud In the wake of such celebrity feuds as Christina vs. Britney, Kelly vs. Christina, and Christina vs. Pink comes word of some fresh bad blood. The New York Post reports things became heated between blond starlets Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan at the "Cheaper by the Dozen" premiere Sunday night in L.A. For those out of touch with the tween set, relations between the pint-sized drama queens have been strained since last spring, when Duff reportedly began dating teenybopper Aaron Carter while he was still seeing Lohan (Hilary and Aaron split in July). Tensions increased last August when Duff walked the red carpet of Lindsay's hit flick "Freaky Friday" with Chad Michael Murray, who played Lohan's boyfriend in the movie. Got that? According to the paper, Duff, 16, who co-stars in "Cheaper," was less than thrilled when Lohan, 17, arrived at the premiere, and she became "infuriated" when her rival turned up at the after-party. Hilary prevailed upon her mother, who called on the mini-diva's imposing bodyguard to try to intimidate Lohan into leaving. "It was pretty amazing," a source tells the paper. "Here is this huge man trying to manhandle a 100-pound girl." When Lohan refused to leave, Duff and her mom appealed to unsympathetic Fox execs, who snippily said, "If you are not happy, you can leave," while urging Lohan to stay. Mother and daughter exited the party; Lohan, who earlier in the evening told USA Today of the rivalry, "Stuff happens, but everything's cool," stayed. Lohan's rep confirms the paper's account, while Duff's mouthpiece insists the girls' "paths never crossed," claiming that Hilary left the party early to catch a morning flight and that "there were several months between when Lindsay dated Aaron and when Hilary dated him."
  4. Da Man not the man in Hollywood... Triple H continues to get praised for his work in Blade 3. Everyone in Hollywood has been impressed with how hard Triple H has worked on his role, as well as how quickly he has been learning. Despite Hollywood being against anything from WWE (since most non-wrestling things from WWE fail), Triple H's name is growing. Hollywood is also high right now on Mick Foley and feel that his upcoming TV show could be a hit. Again though, some are holding reservations about the series because it is a non-wrestling WWE project. There is no buzz in Hollywood at all about Goldberg following his role in Looney Tunes: Back In Action. Credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

http://www.wowt.com/entertainment/headline...nes/509732.html NBC'S 'NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION 2' PREMIERES 7PM SATURDAY! Starring Randy Quaid in his memorable film role NBC Entertainment BURBANK, Cailf. -- November 17, 2003 -- NBC's will premiere its fun-filled family holiday adventure -- "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure" on Saturday, Dec. 20 (7-9PM CT). The new movie stars Oscar and Emmy nominee Randy Quaid ("Independence Day"), who reprises his memorable role from the popular "National Lampoon Vacation" film series as Cousin Eddie. Matty Simmons, who produced "National Lampoon's Animal House" and the "National Lampoon Vacation" films, is the writer and executive producer. Nick Marck ("Malcolm in the Middle," "Gilmore Girls") directs. Quaid is joined by Miriam Flynn, who played his wife, Catherine, in the previous "Vacation" films. The movie also stars Dana Barron ("National Lampoon's Vacation"), Jake Thomas ("Lizzie McGuire," "Artificial Intelligence: AI"), Fred Willard ("A Mighty Wind," "Everybody Loves Raymond") and multiple Emmy Award winner Ed Asner ("Lou Grant," "Mary Tyler Moore"). In addition, Eric Idle of classic "Monty Python" fame makes a special cameo appearance, reprising his role from "National Lampoon's European Vacation" as a put-upon English tourist. The movie also stars Beverly Garland ("Port Charles"), Julian Stone ("General Hospital") and Sung Hi Lee ("Nurse Betty"). After the affable Eddie is bitten by a monkey ? his lab-mate at a nuclear-research testing facility ? his boss (Willard) tries to ward off a potential lawsuit by offering Eddie and his family an all-expense paid trip to the South Pacific for the Christmas holiday. Thrilled at the prospect of escaping chilly Chicago and finally going on a real vacation, Eddie and Catherine (Flynn) are joined by their brainy son Third (Thomas), their cousin, Audrey (Barron), a voluptuous tour guide (Hi Lee) and Eddie's crusty Uncle Nick (Asner), whose wife (Garland) has just left him for the Christmas tree delivery man. But Eddie can't seem to go anywhere without causing chaos, and their dream vacation quickly turns into a tropical nightmare when the family gets shipwrecked on a South Sea island. While the hilariously inept Eddie tries valiantly to fulfill his wife's wish to just have food and shelter for Christmas, the rest of the family tries to survive the elements ? and each other ? while keeping up their yuletide spirits. Just when there's hope of a rescue by wealthy Australian businessman (Stone), Eddie unintentionally sabotages the rescue efforts. Then the fate of his family is in his bungling hands as his tries to return them safely to civilization from a Christmas vacation they'll never forget.

Yeah no kidding and the thing is the only way I found out was that I was just watching the 1st on NBC when they played an ad for it.
  15. Could Bret Hart be the reason? There has been some talk inside WWE of reviving the WWE Hall of Fame, possibly in conjunction with WrestleMania XX. WWE may use this as a way to get Bret Hart involved in WMXX, by inducting him into the Hall of Fame. Other major names who might be inducted include Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, and Billy Graham. The date being talked about for a possible Hall of Fame ceremony is 03/13, the night before WMXX. Credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Form what I remember when Austin was on probation he could drink on the job cause it was part of his job or something like that.
  17. I think they should build up Lesnar/Benoit for WMXX.
  18. I remembered that today has been two months since Big Show has won the US title from Eddie at No Mercy. So I thought we'd talk about all the great matches were he's defended the title. Let's see there was...uh...uh...hmmm oh that's right he's hasn't defended the bet ONCE since he got it. Guess that makes Eddie's lossing both his belts even more pointless. Geez I guess the WWE doesn't have that 30 day ruling anymore huh? Hell is Big Show's match against Cena next week even for the title?
  19. Latest WWE news items... - WWE has extended their Christmas break. The 12/27 RAW show in El Pase has been moved to 04/30. The 12/28 show in Lubbock has been dropped. Court: RIAA can't subpoena Internet providers

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...aa&e=2&ncid=528 Court: Kazaa Not Responsible for Swapping By ANTHONY DEUTSCH, Associated Press Writer AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The makers of Kazaa, the world's most popular computer file-sharing program, cannot be held liable for copyright infringement of music or movies swapped on its free software, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled Friday. The decision upheld a 2002 appellate-court verdict in Amsterdam that dismissed a suit filed by Buma/Stemra, which protects the interests of the music industry. Buma/Stemra had demanded that Kazaa stop offering free downloads from its Web site, or face a daily fine of $124,000. Kazaa's Media Desktop software is one of a variety of file swapping programs used by tens of millions of people worldwide. Kazaa alone has 3 million to 4 million users at any given time. Kazaa said the ruling, the first by a national court dealing with the legality of file-sharing Web sites, affirms not just the legality of its software, but all file-sharing programs. "This victory sets the precedent about the legality of peer-to-peer technology across the European Union (news - web sites), and around the world," Kazaa founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis said in a statement distributed on the Internet. They called the ruling a "historic victory for the evolution of the Internet and for consumers." Buma/Stemra said it regretted the court hadn't dealt with the broader issue of the legality of file-sharing programs, leaving the group in a similar position as the American recording industry, which has sued individual song-swappers for tens of thousands of dollars in damages. "We now have the unpleasant situation that only the consumers who swap music can be held accountable for copyright violation," said Cees van Rij, the head of legal affairs at Buma/Stemra. But Buma/Stemra spokeswoman Noortje de Bakker said the agency hoped it wouldn't have to take similar action in the Netherlands. She said the group was promoting the use of paid alternatives such as Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes Music Store, MusicMatch, Rhapsody and the revamped, legal Napster (news - web sites). Kazaa's parent company, Sharman Networks Ltd., still faces a copyright lawsuit filed in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (news - web sites). Sharman is incorporated in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu with main offices in Sydney, Australia.
  21. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...wnloading_music Record Industry May Not Subpoena Providers By TED BRIDIS, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - A federal appeals court ruled Friday the recording industry can't force Internet providers to identify subscribers swapping music online, dramatically setting back the industry's anti-piracy campaign. The three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia overturned a trial judge's ruling that enforced a type of copyright subpoena under a law that predated the music-swapping trend. "It's an incredible ruling, a blow for the little guy," said Bob Barnes, a grandfather in Fresno, Calif., who was targeted by one of the earliest subpoenas from the Recording Industry Association of America (news - web sites) but isn't among the hundreds who have been sued so far. The ruling does not make it legal to distribute music over the Internet, but it removes one of the most effective tools used by the recording industry to track such activity and sue downloaders. The appeals court said the 1998 copyright law doesn't cover the popular file-sharing networks currently used by tens of millions of Americans to download songs. The law "betrays no awareness whatsoever that Internet users might be able directly to exchange files containing copyrighted works," the court wrote. The appeals judges said they sympathized with the recording industry, noting "stakes are large." But the judges said it was not the role of courts to rewrite the 1998 law, "no matter how damaging that development has been to the music industry or threatens being to the motion picture and software industries." Legal experts said the appeals ruling probably would not affect the 382 civil lawsuits the recording industry already has filed since it announced its campaign nearly six months ago. But it will make identifying defendants for future lawsuits much more difficult and expensive. The ruling forces the recording industry to file copyright lawsuits against "John Doe" defendants, based on their Internet addresses, then work through the courts to learn their names. Cary Sherman, president of the recording industry group, said the ruling "unfortunately means we can no longer notify illegal file sharers before we file lawsuits against them to offer the opportunity to settle outside of litigation." Sherman promised to "continue to defend our rights online on behalf of artists, songwriters and countless others involved in bringing music to the public." U.S. District Judge John D. Bates had approved use of the subpoenas, forcing Verizon Communications Inc. to turn over names and addresses for at least four Internet subscribers. Since then, Verizon has identified dozens of its other subscribers under subpoena by the music industry. Verizon's lawyer, Sarah Deutsch, called the ruling "an important victory for all Internet users and all consumers." She said the music industry should be required to file traditional civil lawsuits — which are more expensive and time-consuming — to prosecute downloaders. "Consumers' rights cannot be trampled upon in the quest to enforce your copyright," Deutsch said. The appeals court said one argument by the recording industry "borders upon the silly" — the trade group's claim that Verizon was responsible for downloaded music because such data files traverse its network. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (news - web sites), passed years before downloading music over peer-to-peer Internet services became popular, compels Internet providers to turn over the names of people suspected of operating pirate Web sites upon subpoena from any U.S. District Court clerk's office. A judge's signature is not required. Critics contend judges ought to be more directly involved. Verizon had argued at its trial that Internet providers should only be compelled to respond to such subpoenas when pirated music is stored on computers that providers directly control, such as a Web site, rather than on a subscriber's personal computer. In his ruling, the trial judge wrote that Verizon's interpretation "makes little sense from a policy standpoint," and warned that it "would create a huge loophole in Congress' effort to prevent copyright infringement on the Internet."

I will say this for Orton when he won the belt he treated it like a big deal and did the same on RAW with belt. It's nice to have a champ that seems to care about the belt even if it is Orton.
