I'd love if a "contract signing" being hyped was just a couple of clips of the wrestlers in regular clothes (read: Zoobas and fanny packs) sitting in a lawyer's office and signing a contract. It ends with them shaking hands and leaving the office. How many of these have we had in the last year alone in WWE? Three or four?

It's one thing to do the usual shitting all over everything, I expect that. Shitting on a team because of things that are completely out of their control and has lead to massive suffering in the non-sporting world is completely perplexing, to put it in the most diplomatic terms possible. And, again, renovating the Superdome was for the greater good because the Saints aren't the only thing that ever goes on in there. A lot of that money went towards simply repairing the place and removing the stench of human waste and despair anyway. In order to remain competitive with other similar venues (Georgia Dome, the still pretty new Houston stadium, just to name a couple in the immediate area) for Final Fours and Super Bowls and concerts and party conventions and other events that help keep the city's economy going it had to be done. Besides, it's not like the place was still a spring chicken before the storm. If you relinquish your stadium and only have the arena-sized convention center, you lose a LOT of potential business. A larger venue means more people coming into the city, staying at hotels, eating at restaurants, all that. Also, compared to the BILLIONS needed for reconstucting the whole city, $180 million to fix your primary venue in order to revive the economy is a fair investment.

Yeah, really. If there's nothing else we've learned as wrestling fans, it's that what we think is the worst is never the worst it can get.

This is going to be awful. I wasn't very optimistic until I saw the preview, but now that little optimism is gone. It looks like they're trying to make a real-life Def Jam video game promotion. It won't turn anyone off of wrestling at least thanks to the extremely short memories and attention spans of MTV viewers, which is the best that will come out of it.

And that's what makes the Saints a great story, natural disaster or not. How many teams whose fans became notable for wearing paper bags over their heads go from same old, same old to being one game from their sport's championship? As much as the new age cynical fuckwad sports fan rails against teams for being too dominant and getting tired of seeing certain squads win, now they're pissed that there's a new team in the mix. Of course, any kind of coverage that (rightfully) talks about the city's troubles and the distraction the team's performance provides is the excuse. Not a single person is saying that the Saints even going on to the Super Bowl and winning would prompt the entire town to magically morph into Emerald City. Can't people be satisfied with the simple "historically awful team excites its rebuilding city?" I guess not, because this is perverted somehow into their opponents being touted as worthless and an afterthought. Is it a crime to have the most compelling backstory? It's not like Drew Brees is throwing passes to journalists.

Who said the Saints don't want to be in New Orleans anymore? Does Tom Benson's wishy-washyness (that of the OWNER, not the players/staff) from last year carry over into this year for some reason? The Hornets I'll allow, but the Saints have been there forever in football time and New Orleans' only professional sports team for most of that time. They also keeps the newly refurbished Superdome fresh in the minds of organizers/conventioneers, which brings more income to the city, and moreso now thanks to a beyond-all-expectations stellar season.
