Give him time, Mike.

Does a weapons "expector" spit on the weapons he finds? BTW, Ritter was all about the Iraq WMD, until he took money from Saddam and changed his story, then made more money writing a book about it. He's a traitor and a piece of shit, and I'll raise a glass the days someone puts a bullet in his fool fucking head.

W-E-A-K Schedule Schedule Schedule Says the man whose team has played opponents with a cumulative record of 5-14 this season...

The hell indeed. I'm tied for first in PF, yet I'm last in my division at 2-3. Of course, I've also given up 41 points, which means I'm catching people on their good weeks. Damn my crappy defense...

Laws or issues that you support or want adopted
Dr. Tom replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
No because when one state adopts it it'll have to be recognized in every state. Not true, I think. I remember reading that the "full faith and credit" clause wouldn't apply, but I'll be dashed if I can remember why. I don't really have the time to look it up now, or else I would. No, only because they'll probably vote democrat. Just the black ones... Well, there wouldn't be nearly so many tiers, and the overall tax rate would be lower. I think those who can afford to pay more should, but we also can't penalize people for being successful. No -- the ballot box solves "term limits," even if that means Ted Kennedy has a job in DC. Two words: Strom Thurmond. You might need some KP for a few nights, after that hippie thought on term limits... -

I'm in MD, which always nominates the Democrat. Of course, we elected a Republican governor for the first time in a dog's age two years ago, so maybe there's hope. The problem is, Baltimore and Baltimore County, and Montgomery County vote Democrat, while the rest of the state votes the right way: Republican. The three big population centers outnumber the sensible folks, though. I haven't hard MD described as a "swing state," so I'm guessing most people are chalking it up as +D. Meh, Bednarik sounds like a nutbar, which is my general problem with the Libertarian Party. Maybe it's time to vote for Mickey Mouse via the ol' write-in option... -

Ed Wade's brilliant interviews this week....

I'd just like to see the man get a managing gig somewhere in the majors. He did a good job during his time with the Orioles, until Peter Angelos and his Almighty Ego forced Johnson out the door (the same day he won AL MOTY, IIRC). Since then, I can't recall him getting another shot. I'm guessing Angelos blacklisted him and said he eats puppies or something, which is a shame. I'm surprised he hasn't latched on as a commentator somewhere, unless he's doing local work that I wouldn't have hard about. -

Yes, Catholicism does have Purgatory. It's for souls which aren't wicked enough for hell, and are not good enough for heaven. Those souls spend time in Purgatory -- the amount of time varies, depending on how "impure" the soul is, and once that time is up, they are then allowed to enter heaven.

He's the Libertarian candidate, I presume? I guess, because I've said for over a year now that I'm not voting for Bush, despite being a supporter of his and satisfied with his performance overall. I can't support Ashcroft as AG (really, the man should've had some consideration and died when he was undergoing surgery), and I can't get behind the Jesus Freak Agenda. So it's a third-party fellow for me. -
Yes, because Daniel Pearl was killed because we had invaded Iraq... Oh wait, NO HE WASN'T. He was killed -- like all the unfortunates who have beheaded by these wastes of sperm and egg -- because the "people" we're dealing with are fanatical fuckheads with no regard for human life. Blame the people who actually killed this guy.

Yeah, Conduit would be a good call. I can't come along for the ride on Bizarro, though. That's a little too out there and a little too comic book-y for my tastes.

Hmm, another example of why people facing their first charge for simple drug use shouldn't go to jail. Let's not lose focus on the real issue here: this guy didn't die because he smoked pot, he died because the prison didn't have the means necessary to keep him alive. In that case, who the fuck sends the man to prison? You send him to a hospital prison, or you give him a fine for smoking the wacky tobacky and move on. There's a lot of blame to go around here.

There's a 2004 one, also, but I couldn't find a picture of it.

-- Legalize (and tax the sale of) all drugs. Build penalties into the system so that anyone who harms someone else while under the influence gets the book thrown at them, hard. -- Legalize prostitution and devise safety controls based on the NV model. -- Legalize euthenasia. -- Repeal McCain-Feingold. -- Legalize gambling, again using the NV system as a model. -- Send the gay marriage issue to the states for referendum. -- Allow felons convicted of nonviolent crimes the right to vote. -- A simple flat tax, with several tiers based on income, to replace the income tax. Build tax breaks into the system for small business owners and families with multiple children. -- Double aid to Israel and remove the leash. -- A real commitment to cut spending in the federal government. -- The execution of all lobbyists in DC. -- A complete change to the bill policies of Congress, so that ridiculous pork can't be attached to an existing bill. Anyting proposed must have its own bill, not ride on the coattails of a larger one. -- Term limits in Congress. 12 years is all you get. -- Restructure copyright and intellectual property laws so that companies don't have an eternal stranglehold on creations. Things are supposed to go into the public domain at some point. As an addendum, legalize file sharing to make archaic fuckheaded conglomerates like the RIAA devise a working business model for the digital age. There are probably some more, but those are the big ones. -

So I guess Davey Johnson is still blacklisted? -
driverguide.com has a lot of drivers for just about anything. You need to sign up, but it's free. CD burners come in USB external drives. They're significantly more expensive than their internal kin, but you can get a decent one certainly for under $100, and probably under $80 (I haven't checked the prices in a while, so they may have come down even more). You can also get USB "flash drives," with a 256 MB one checking in at under $50 in most places. You can probably get a good deal on a 512 MB model if you look hard enough. You can connect computers via parallel and serial cables to do data transfers. It's not particularly fast, but it does work. The flash drive might be a better option in terms of speed and convenience, though.

To a point, yes. You're still running a 266 with 96 MB of RAM, and that's eventually going to matter. Maybe XP runs smoothly, but how easily can you multitask without slowing down? My laptop is a P3 700 MHz with 192 MB RAM, and it slows down with 2-3 applications open (normally Word, PowerPoint, and whatever else). You can go to a computer show and get a new P4 or AMD system for about $300, and when they're that cheap, there's no reason not to.

If the economy nationwide is experience the biggest boon since the recovery under Clinton, I think that's a little more important than Paducah, KY losing a few jobs. The study is about how economic news is reported differently based on which party occupies the White House, not whether your city is an accurate microcosm for the national economy.

"Senator, I have a bottle of vodka, a shot glass, and a promise to take a shot every time you mention Vietnam. Am I getting alcohol poisoning tonight, or am I just getting plastered?" "Mr. President, how does it feel to run against another wooden automaton who's been doing a miserable job of campaigning so far?"
-
Interesting that no one who's replied so far has read the article and evidence, and has just contributed anecdotal evidence about how bad the economy is in their little corner of the town. Tremendous.

If Bush follows Cheney's lead and goes on the attack more in this second debate, then it will be a big help to him. Perhaps that's what the "pundits" mean.

You're better off sticking to wired connections for security reasons. Ethernet cards are internal PCI, and cost $10-20 in most places. D-Link and Netgear make good ones. Routers can run anywhere from $20-$100+ depending on the features you get. If you have one printer for these two computers, you should look into a router that comes with a print server built-in. Any technology web site will compare routers; Practically Networked, Tom's Hardware (no relation), and Hard OCR are some good places to look. Read and learn before you buy. Make sure you're using the right kind of memory. 32MB isn't enough to do very much anymore. Considering how absurdly cheap it is to get a new PC these days, you might want to look into going that route. Jacking up the memory on your 32MB system will help, but the rest of the hardware is going to limit you at some point.
