People have already mentioned Diesel beating Bob Backlund for the WWF Title at MSG. However, I thought Backlund beating Bret for the title was unexpected. I just couldn't believe Backlund had the title. Granted, he didn't have it for long but it still surprised me.

Shawn Michaels has to be one of the vetrans in WWE who still has enough star power and hasn't become damaged goods that could be used to make somebody in the midcard a star. The question being, who should that somebody be? Obiviously once his program with Hogan is over of course. In my opinion I would go with Shelton Benjamin. The guy has so much potential as a future WWE superstar. He's a talented wrestler who can put on some great matches and the fans seem to connect with him. Granted his mic skills aren't great but, I believe, with time Shelton could improve these skills. It's not to say that promo skills are the most important thing in the world. I mean look at Benoit, he became a star last year based on his in-ring skills. Not only this, but the two could certainly put on a series of great matches as was demonstrated earlier this year on Raw. So how do you guys think Michaels should help to make a star?

I'm a Metallica fan so I bought on the day of release without reading a review for it first. However, it's grown on me a bit recently. That's not to say it's a good as their earlier work because it isn't.

I totally agree with that. Michaels should have lost clean to Jericho. I mean, it wouldn't have hurt him and put Jericho over at the same time.

Oh yeah. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I gotta agree.

I still think that was the lamest resolution to that angle. I mean, who thought that shit up? But that's WWE for you.

Why do they keep blaming Bischoff for WCW failing?
Si82 replied to zyn081's topic in General Wrestling
The question is, why? I agree with the last two posts that the nWo angle should have had a proper blowoff match instead of it fizzling out. -
Good topic man. Anyway, I personally prefere long title reigns to shorter ones. I feel they help to define an era in wrestling be they good or bad. It also give a guy a really chance to get over as, for lack of a better term, real champion. That's not to say a large number of reigns make a guy a crappy champion. Like Ric Flair, large number of reigns with some being lengthy over a long career. However, how this would work in this modern era I don't know.

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing for TNA. On one hand the Dudley Boyz are a well known tag team, will probably attract some attention and get people watching and will be given the chance to mix it up with other teams in fresh matches. After all the Dudleyz got pretty stale towards the end of their WWE run. On the other hand, I don't think TNA should be bring in vetrans who, in my opinion, suck when they have a good bunch of young, talent guys on the roster. I don't want them to end up like WCW with a bunch of old guys on top while the more talented guys go to waste.

bah! he's a poor man's Eric Roberts! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No fucking way. Patrick owns Roberts.

This statement seems to conform with WWE logic and therefore gives it a large chance of happening. I just hope that it doesn't.

I just finished listening to the show this morning and I thought it was pretty good. I really liked the content even if I don't agree with everything and I would love to hear other posters on the show. It's kinda cool to actually be able to put a voice to a poster too. Maybe a few techinical flaws, the mic problem others have mention, but a really good effort for a first show and I'm looking forward to hearing more of them.

I don't remember that one but I remember the "Reality Check" one from 1999. Could you buy that one?

I can believe they were going to have Hassan win the WWE Championship at the second biggest show of the year. I didn't mind the guy, until the "terrorist" angle, but he was a pretty shitty wrestler. I think it probably would have backfired for WWE in someway. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's the truth =) Batista is benefiting big time <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm certainly not doubting it becuase it sounds like the kind of thing WWE would do.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" surprised me. I thought that a Jerry Bruckheimer film based on a theme park ride would be crap but it was one the best films of that year. I also thought "Scary Movie" was going to suck but I thought it was pretty funny when I watched it. The second film was shit though. "She's All That" turned out to be pretty good too.

Broadstreet Bully Match: Nasty Boys vs. Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack - WCW Slamboree '94 Man, what a brutal match. I didn't remember just how violent and nuts this match was until I watch it again. It's far better than the Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack & Maxx Payne match from Spring Stampede the month before and really set the standard for tag team brawls from that point on. I mean, take a look at any ECW tag team brawl and you'll see the infulence of this match. All four guys take a hell of a beating and seemed to be going all out. I can understand that the probably put the other match on the DVD because Jesse is on commentary but it was the superior of the two. I loved watching it again.

Why do they keep blaming Bischoff for WCW failing?
Si82 replied to zyn081's topic in General Wrestling
Yes, the should have stopped it but nobody did. That's not to say that the boys shouldn't be blamed at all. Sure they had the power given to them but they chose to abuse it. They should, therefore, accept some of the blame. -

What exactly is your point here? I didn't say WCW wasn't a money pit, or that they didn't get their ass kicked when Bischoff was in charge, or that Bischoff wasn't canned for good reason. I agree with all those points because they are fact. What they have to do with the fact that WCW was the top wrestling company in the world for a couple of years I don't know. Why not use the cash he had access to in order to bring talent to the company. After all, wrestling is a business and he was in direct competition with another company. Are you saying the Bicshoff entire run in WCW was based on luck rather than the ability to spot talent? And how do you know that WCW wouldn't have done well without Hall and Nash. Nitro was pretty competive with Raw before then and who's to say they wouldn't have come up with a different gimmick to get on top? This is all true. But WCW could have made a comeback. It wasn't dead when Bischoff was dumped. Again, I never said Russo was fantastic for the company or that he had great ideas becuase he didn't. I said he gave the company a direction. Not a very good one but a direction. I also didn't say that things got better either. So why bring these things up? Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, the other old boys, Vince Russo, Bill Busch the rest of WCW upper management who didn't act when they saw their was a problem. -
I was watching "The Royal Tenenbaums" earlier tonight and thought it's a good film I couldn't help thinking I prefered "Bottle Rocket" and that is has to be my favourite Wes Anderson film. So I thought I could make a poll to see what you guys think. As for my choice. I just feel that everything about "Bottle Rocket" is so well done. From the casting, to the script, to the performance everything is great for the film and I don't think he's manged to top it yet.

Why do they keep blaming Bischoff for WCW failing?
Si82 replied to zyn081's topic in General Wrestling
It's like Fook said. WWE had their ass handed to them by WCW when Eric Bischoff was in charge and because history is written by the winners Eric Bischoff is made out to be the man who killed WCW. It's incredibly sad that Vince can't just put things behind him and get on with life rather than feel the need to embarass Bischoff every so often. But that's Vince for ya. That's not to say that Bischoff should not take some blame for the death of WCW just not all of it. I mean, things really did begin to go downhill under his watch. He make a lot of shitty business decisions to try and compete with WWE. Crap like signing Master P to a $200,000 per appearance deal, paying Megadeath $250,000 to perform on Nitro, paying Kiss $500,000 to play on Nitro and the introduction of The Demon becuase of the deal, giving Dennis Rodman a $1 million to return and refusing to accept that anyone but the old guard should be on top. Granted they help start the slump but you have to remember once the shit really hit the fan Bischoff was gone from the company. They could have make a comeback if more crappy decisions weren't made by the upper management. Once Bischoff went the company didn't even have a direction untill Vince Russo was brought in. He lasted a few months and then Kevin Sullivan was put in charge which caused the four "Radicalz" to resign and the company got even worse. The final nail would have to be bringing back Russo again. Bischoff did play a part in the end of WCW but there are many other factors and many other people who the blame should be placed upon.
