WWE General Discussion-November 2008
The Tino Standard replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
Best seats I've had are about halfway up the lower bowl, end opposite the TitanTron. Everything is right in front of you. -
I can't come up with a full 10 off the top of my head, but here were the top five that came to mind right away: 1. Austin-Rock, WM17 2. Austin-HHH, No Way Out 2001 3. HHH-Cactus Jack, Royal Rumble 2000 4. Hogan-Rock, WM 18 5. Michaels-Angle, WM21

WWE General Discussion-November 2008
The Tino Standard replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
This is a smart move. I don't think WWE has come even remotely close to selling out Quicken Loans Arena since Invasion in 2001. Wolstein seats 13,000 for hoops, so you'd figure about 8,000 or 9,000 for wrestling once they put up the TitanTron. That's about what they've been drawing every time in Cleveland in the last six or seven years. That will look a hell of a lot better on TV. Still, it's going to be weird to see a WWE show at CSU. They haven't run another building in the Cleveland market since the Richfield Coliseum days. -
Wrestler/Belt Combos That Didn't or Wouldn't Look Good
The Tino Standard replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in General Wrestling
And the dumbest part was that those belts on Raw are called the "World Tag Team Championship," yet the new belts say "WWE Tag Team Champions" (which is the name of the Smackdown tag titles), with "World" nowhere to be found. The old tag belts, meanwhile, had WORLD right in the middle of the main plate. -
Character Moments That Now Make You Cringe or Shudder
The Tino Standard replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in General Wrestling
Wow that was an abortion of a segment. Why wasn't Owen selling at all? Totally unrelated, but I always loved that giant skull entrance ramp from Survivor Series 98. -
WWE General Discussion - October 2008

In another time, Paul Gleason could've been awesome. He was the principal in "The Breakfast Club", and I've thought for a long time that Vince picked up some parts of the Mr. McMahon character by watching Principal Vernon bully the kids in Saturday detention. Think more early uberheel Mr. McMahon, not the cartoon character from more recent years. -
So I finally beat the storyline mode. I loved the game, but was a little underwhelmed by the final sequence of missions. I went with the "Revenge" sequence at the end. is the guy for the big, dramatic final kill? Really? Not nearly as satisfying as killing off Tenpenny at the end of San Andreas. Without giving anything away, did anybody do the "Deal" missions instead? I saved another file before starting the final two missions so that I could do both, and now I'm curious to see how different things will turn out.

Best episode of this show in years. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

This kid filled in for the sports anchor on Ball State's student news broadcast a couple years ago and absolutely melted down. Tried doing SportsCenter shtick, but couldn't even identify people in the highlights. It culminated with a Pacers highlight where he said something to the effect of "He passes to the man... and boom goes the dynamite." It comes around 2:30 in this clip: The whole thing spread like wildfire on YouTube. I have no idea why two different shows would be referencing it now.

I hope Jericho has a good dental plan. His teeth were a mess.

I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd completely backs Beth Phoenix over Candice on Sunday at the PPV. Has Candice done anything remotely interesting since returning other than look like shit in a couple matches?

Actually, if you REALLY want to get technical, there should be no "at" at the end of that sentence. In other words, where are the notes? -
Yes he was. Bit of a gaffe there.

Don't forget, by the time spring rolls around, Robin will be living with Ted. I'd be stunned if Stella is still around past November sweeps.
-
I agree. I just think it's amazing that a guy can get a run, stay relevant for that long without the belt, then come around and win it again.
-
I'm going to give that a thumbs down because the Stinger had world title reigns in WCW in between.
-
Jericho, having lost the Undisputed title at WM18 and winning the World title at Unforgiven this month, went 6 1/2 years between title reigns. And if you add up the time Michaels has missed over the last six years, it's gotta be pretty close to matching the amount of time Jericho missed when he left the company a couple years ago. Other than Hogan getting a cup-of-coffee run in 2002 (his last WWE title run coming in 1993), I can't remember another span between title reigns longer than what Jericho pulled off. And a punch in the mouth for the first person to say Kane trumps it by winning the WWE title in 1998 and the ECW belt in 2008.

I'm still betting HHH/Steph get a divorce some time down the road. Are you crazy? Triple H is riding a gravy train with biscuit wheels right now professionally. There is NO way he flushes that down the toilet. Trips is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them. -
AWA Wrestling back on the air

Yes! That guy ruled. ... and speaking of ring announcers, tonight we have the one and only Gary Michael Capetta at Super Clash III. -
For what it's worth, the MNF game was the highest rated program in the entire history of cable television. That game had all the makings of a big-time showdown going in and it ended up being an instant classic. If you're WWE, there's not much you're going to do to combat that.

AWA Wrestling back on the air

It's amazing how much more coherent Larry Nelson seems in these shows from the spring of 86, compared with the stuff from late 87 that they were showing a month or so ago. Just watched last night's show where they aired the footage from the Civic Center in St. Paul where King Kong Brody and the Sheik do a number on Greg Gagne and Brad Rheingans before freakin' VERNE Gagne comes out and lays down the law. That crowd was going NUTS. -
I would have felt the same way if TBK would have won the WWE Championship. Then again, after seeing the Browns get thrashed, I'd have been pissed knowing I spent $50+ to go. I spent the first quarter or so of the Browns game swearing at the TV, but when it became painfully obvious they were in way over their heads, I couldn't even get upset anymore... up until they kicked a field goal trailing by 21 points with 10 minutes left. Dumbasses. Anyway, kinda hard to tell watching the stream, but I'm wondering how many people they actually had at the PPV tonight.
-
So my favorite wrestler wins the world heavyweight title 20 minutes from my house and I'm not there. Son of a bitch.
-
I can't get that streamtown feed to last more than 3 or 4 seconds without buffering.

Discussion: WWE Scramblemania~!
The Tino Standard replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah, a 4:15 kickoff for the Browns vs. Dallas is NOT helping their cause. Of course, WWE shot itself in the foot the last time they held a PPV here... Survivor Series 04 was on the same day that the Browns played a home game against the Steelers. This town doesn't have the population or the disposable income to fill up a WWE event when the Browns are in town too.
