I started watching the WWF religiously around 89 or so, and to be honest, I had no idea Steamboat had been with the promotion in the mid-80s, based on the way he was presented during his second run. It wasn't until much later that I discovered just how good he was.

Announcer Vince ruled. I remember when he got blasted with the wooden chair on Superstars in like 92. They treated it like an assassination.

Those were AWESOME... Great collection.

Corbin Bernsen And as for Willard, he was Allison Hannigan's father in "American Wedding," and I think he's on "A Minute With Stan Hooper" as well.

Hey, I love WrestleMania as much as anybody... It's one of my favorite days of the year... But a FIVE-HOUR show? That's just a little too long.

That bright red background on the WM website is hideous.

That's GOLD, Jerry! GOLD! And honestly, it works within the confines of the storyline... Eddie Guerrero is extremely serious about this whole thing, talking about exorcising personal demons and realizing a dream, while Lesnar has been poking fun at him and not taking this upcoming match seriously at all... Perfect setup for Eddie to upstage Lesnar on Sunday.

I understand what you're saying, but I think you're a bit deceived. They position the main camera at MSG in the same spot as they would at any other arena. The difference is that the entry way for the wrestlers/players to come through there is in the middle of the sidelines, instead of down in a corner of the arena. That's why the aisle there is so short- it's coming from where the scorers' table in basketball would be. The really odd thing about this is that the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey is the exact same way for basketball, but they always put the entrance for wrestling down at the end like any other arena. Maybe they just like that old school look at MSG. No complaints here.

OK, I'll take the bait and ask... What is the deal with Hogan's mustache?

I doubt the ring carts will come back this year, given that MSG has the shortest aisle of any venue when it is set up for PPVs. Having said that, don't rule out Eddie in a low-rider. Last year for Mysterio's entrance at SurSer, they had an alternate stage set up where the normal entrance in most arenas would be (behind the announcers to the far left from the main camera). They could probably get a car through there. As for the set, I'd like to see the WM logo at the top of the entrance with double doors, each having half of the "XX" logo on them. Make them in white-outlined neon or something similar to that logo they've had hanging at all the PPVs.

MSG also went bonkers for Lesnar at SurSer '02. Put those two in the ring together and trust me, Lesnar will be getting much bigger pops than Goldberg.

The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread
The Tino Standard replied to Spicy McHaggis's topic in Television & Film
I was wondering about Jack... Did he get a heroin fix from the Salazars or something? He went from not being able to function to being almost completely normal within the last month. -
While he's definitely better than a lot of the dead weight still on the WWE roster right now, I think the Internet folk tend to overrate him to a high degree. His talent level has been blown out of proportion by his lack of push, more or less giving him cult hero status on forums such as this one.

Will Orton drop the IC belt before WM?

More accurately, somebody's shoulder. Tubby Baloo is a little thick to be wearing title belts around his waist. -

Sounds like this guy doesn't know how to work the main event style. And he OBVIOUSLY can't tell a story on the court. -
Yeah, if you like your computer getting avalanched with spyware.

I've mentioned this briefly in a couple other threads, but for the life of me, I still can't understand the logic of heel champions drawing better. Compare the WWE to a professional sports team. The local home team is the 'face,' while the visiting teams are the 'heels.' Which pro sports team draws better- a team that is winning very often or the team that loses most of the time? The winning team, of course. When victory totals plummet, so do attendance figures. Point is, people want to see their team (the good guys/faces) win. Attendance doesn't magically start going up because people are more excited to see their team win after a string of losses. Once the good guys start to lose frequently, interest goes down. For some reason, the WWE thinks it makes for better business to have a heel champion, with faces chasing the title. Why? Think about it, who were the two greatest drawing champions for the WWE? Hogan and Austin. Each time, they were a face, fighting off all challengers. They won and people loved it. I've seen people argue that once the face wins the title, everything after that is anti-climatic. Bullshit, sez I, that's just bad booking. Austin trying to fend off Mick Foley, the Undertaker, the Rock and HHH was a lot more interesting to me than watching the same wash/rinse/repeat cycle with HHH and his string of challengers over the last year. It's gotten to the point now that even if a face beats HHH, nobody gets excited because they know where the belt is headed right back to in a month or two. WWE out-drew the NWA/WCW (which preferred a heel champion) in the 80s and became the dominant company today by having a face champion most of the time. So why now is the WWE trying to emulate the company it BEAT a decade ago?

Lapinski and the Hucklebuck was a much funnier Jerky Boys bit.

One that I particularly enjoyed was on EBay back in the fall... After our football team here at school (Ohio University) went 2-10 (their third straight losing season), someone put the team's head coaching position up for sale. The athletic department got a good laugh out of it, but I don't think the actual coach was as amused.
-
I didn't follow WCW then, so can someone help me out... If Hogan was brought in as the centerpiece of the company, what was he doing that led to him not being on Starrcade 95, their biggest show of the year?
-
Can somebody explain to me why Warren Zevon got such a huge tribute, while everyone else that died in the last year was lumped into one montage? Seems like he was a nice guy and all, but worthy of THAT MUCH tribute time? I dunno...

Features you want to see in Football games
The Tino Standard replied to Damaramu's topic in Video Games
I'd like to see transfers in college football. You've already got players leaving early, so why not add the option of having them transfer? My defense got to the point where I was having to cut players with rankings in the 80s. No way that should happen. Those types of guys should transfer to other schools. I'd also like to see EA put in more coach outfits (seeing Jim Tressel and Joe Paterno not wearing shirts and ties is borderline blaspheme). -
Undertaker did a cool touch at WMXIII when he beat Sid... He broke out the original garb with the gray gloves and boot covers... By that time, he was in his all black/leather outfits... The original garb was awesome to see. I hope he breaks it out again this year at WMXX.

There's the corollary to this that anybody wearing a white shirt will be jumped and busted open. White shirt = You're about to bleed.

That Wrestlemania was on St. Patrick's Day... Maybe he was trying to get the luck of the Irish...?
