    The Boss Reponds to Henry.

The Best NLCS series was probably the 1980 one between the Phillies and Astros. Game 1 goes to the Phillies 3-1. Game 2 goes to Houston after a big 4 run 10th inning whilst holding the Phils to 1 run in the bottom of the 10th to win 7-4. Game 3 the Astros win in the bottom of the 11th 1-0 thanks a sacrifice fly. Game 4 after tying the game in the bottom of the 9th, the Astros choke and after scoring 2 runs in the top of the 10th, Phillies win 5-3. Game 5 the Astros once again stay alive by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 7. In the top of the 10th, the Phils manage to score a run thanks to a double from Maddox and went on to win the World Series over the Royals 4 games to 2.

Jackie was WAY more humble but I thought it'd be interesting to see how Ty Cobb would react and how extreme it would be compared to a Jackie Robinson. Ty would probably have been a bastard anyways because almost everybody hated his guts during his playing days anyway.

    MLB 2004 Predictions

Hmm...damn everyone signing with Baltimore(Tejada and Lopez). Eh, I'll just change it to Javy for no discernable reason then

Yeah, seconds after I posted it i realize that was what you were asking and I'd have to agree with him thinking it was overbearing. Wonder how a Ty Cobb would go about this? I think he'd rant that everyone should retire his # for some bogus reason

    MLB 2004 Predictions

I think that Houston could honestly make it with their improved rotation and also they still have some solid hitters(Berkman, Biggio, Bagwell, Kent). I personally see the Sox making it but knowing what's happened in the past I'm not going to go out on a limb and proclaim it'll happen, esp. considering that we don't know what kind of moves the Yankees could make.

I'm curious if he'd want his number retired at other stadiums or if he would think it to be overbearing and just settle for the Dodger Stadium retirement...

I'll say 8th round since he was ranked in the 700's or so

I think he'd be humble but would feel that it should be retired at Dodger Stadium at the very least although teams like the Yankees would probably honor his number out of respect as well as him being the first noticeable black player in terms of current day

and remember to exclude players who are injured for most/the whole season. Don't want to get stuck with an Aaron Boone eh?

When all the teams join up, the team owner then sets if their rankings are "ready" and when all teams are ready, the autodraft occurs

Last time Cleveland won was 1948 vs the Boston Braves and as much as Detroit sucks, they've won 4 WS titles

To be honest, I'd choose beating the Yankees to get to the WS only to lose just because nothing would piss off George more then knowing that the Sox beat him to get to the WS, although winning it would be even sweeter revenge.

IMO, it'll soon become a more heated rivalry in terms of the Red Sox putting up a very fair fight and possibly beating them. Hell, the Sox came with-in 5 outs last year of possibly heading to the WS so it's not exactly like the Yankees will always dominate the Sox.

Look at it this way Ghettoman, he's getting paid almost the same($14+ Mill per year) as Vladimir Guerrero($15 Mill), Nomar Garciaparra($11.50 Mill), Miguel Tejada($10 Mill) and Shawn Green($14-15)...

Even I gotta admit, point - set - match to the Devil although I still think that the Yankees MUST address their pitching needs(esp. after looking at my most recent post in the Retired 42 thread) if they want a chance to win the World Series.

    Here's how the Yankees did in Runs Scored vs Runs Allowed in each of their WS winning seasons and rank amongst AL teams 1923: 823(#3) vs 622(#1) 1927: 975(#1) vs 599(#1) 1928: 894(#1) vs 685(#2) 1932: 1002(#1) vs 724(#2) 1936: 1065(#1) vs 731(#1) 1937: 979(#1) vs 671(#1) 1938: 966(#1) vs 710(#1) 1939: 967(#1) vs 556(#1) 1941: 830(#2) vs 631(#1) 1943: 669(#1) vs 542(#1) 1947: 794(#1) vs 568(#1) 1949: 829(#2) vs 637(#2) 1950: 914(#2) vs 691(#2) 1951: 798(#2) vs 621(#2) 1952: 727(#2) vs 557(#1) 1953: 801(#1) vs 547(#1) 1956: 857(#1) vs 631(#2) 1958: 759(#1) vs 577(#2) 1961: 827(#2) vs 612(#2) 1962: 817(#1) vs 680(#2) 1977: 831(#4) vs 651(#1) 1978: 735(#4) vs 582(#1) 1996: 871(#9) vs 787(#3) 1998: 965(#1) vs 656(#1) 1999: 900(#3) vs 731(#2) 2000: 871(#6) vs 814(#4) Just for comparison 2001: 804(#5) vs 713(#3) 2003: 877(#3) vs 716(#4) Man, the Yankees have just been so dominant pitching wise never doing worse then #4 in terms of runs allowed. Still, you can easily see that the 1932 & 1936-1939 teams could be argued as the best Yankee teams ever at least offensively.

Wow, the top 3 teams that have won the most WS' are the New York Yankees(26-13), Philadelphia/Oakland Athletics(9-5) and the St. Louis Cardinals(8-6) To compare the "cursed" teams of the White Sox, Cubs and Red Sox... Red Sox: Last was 1918, 5-3 White Sox: Last was 1917, 1-2 Cubs: Last was 1908, 2-9 So it looks like the most cursed team is the Cubbies, winning only 2 WS championships in 11 appearances(Tying the Sox and White Sox' appearances combined)

the Gotham Harlequins shall bring the championships back to Gotham! Aided by the usual Arkham villians or something...heck, we'd probably abduct the players and force 'em to play for us or else suffer torture and yes, we're the heels of every league or at least should be.

Some interesting WS Facts: Yankees won 5 straight from 1949-1953. The only 3-peat World Series champs are the Yankees(1936-1939 they won 4 straight), Yankees(1949-1953 winning 5 straight), Oakland Athletics(1972-1974), Yankees(1998-2000). Interesting that 12 WS rings for the Yankees all came in clusters since I never realized they won 4 or 5 straight. Last WS involving a tie was 1922, New York Giants beating the Yankees 4-0-1. Most games with a tie was 8, 1912 with the Red Sox beating the New York Giants 4-3-1.

I think it'd be better if the teams retired the uniform # of the first black they hired to play for THEIR team. I find it kind of disconcerting that just because Jackie did it first, he essentially gets the credit despite only playing for 1 team.
