Fuck... I happen to get Tony Parker back and run into an opponent with a great week to the point I'm down 6-2. All I want is to finish the season at .500!

I guess that 4:37 strikeout to walk ratio (and 108.0 ERA in A ball) was an indication that he wasn't making the necessary progress. I've always found his story to be interesting. Too bad he never put it together. I once read a scouting report from a game he pitched in that indicated he threw 12 consecutive balls, 7 of which were wild pitches. It was even a case of the yips either (a la Rick Ankiel), he just couldn't get it over the plate. He should've gotten glasses and come out to Wild Thing while Bob Eucker called his games. Even if from heaven.

I can be there. I'll cut it close in terms of getting into the draft (if I have an early pick) since I work until 9:00 that night but I can get out a few minutes early.

Created my team but... how the hell do I get into the league itself? Do I have to fill out the draft list first? Nevermind. I'm in as the Boston Americans.

Throw out those numbers, Loewen was pitching hurt. Loewen has the pure stuff, but he lacks the command. Even still.. Last season Erik Bedard: 182.0 IP. He had a 10.93 K/9 vs. 2.82 BB/9. He also had a 3.15 FIP (fielding independent pitching) and also had a VORP (value over replacement player) of 54.9. His PERA was 3.18 and he was 7.5 wins above replacement player (WARP). To expect Adam Loewen to replicate those numbers is laughable. Now, could he come close to the counting stats of 13 W and a 3.16 ERA? A 1.09 WHIP? Possibly on the W but doubtful on the ERA and WHIP. Loewen even with his injured season had a PERA of 4.19 and had a 5.06 FIP. So there is hope that he can pitch well but I would be putting more faith in his 1 HRA and 22 K in 30.1 IP. What would concern me is his penchant for walks (62 in 112.1 IP in 2006 along with his 5.37 ERA) and if his BABIP goes back to the .319 from 2006.

Chiekeze was great and David Archuleta's performance actually gave me chills (still does just listening to it, not watching on AI.com)

This could be interesting... Rotoworld. Manager Joe Torre said Monday that he wouldn't hesitate to call Clayton Kershaw up to the majors this season despite the fact that he's just 20 years old. "To me, players become good players when you find out how they handle failure," Torre said. "A lot of it's the makeup of the youngster. But it's happening more and more in the big leagues now, a lot of kids coming up. You don't think twice about bringing a youngster, especially a pitcher, from Double-A."

Also the TV match quality flourished when the WWF allowed wrestlers to go 6-8 minutes per rather than the 3-5 tops seen in the late 90's. Also the absence of jobbers helped.

Yes. A true postmodern poster would create a Movie Draft based on 20 rounds of drafting films based on categories of foreign ideology. Here's RHR's PMed pick. Occasionally, an album/song is released that makes that band THE BAND for that moment. I'm sure there will be tons of examples in this very thread. This a;bum, along with GNR's album, made TWO BANDS that band in 1987. Love them or hate them, this is the album that made U2 icons. Go ahead, try to not name at least two songs off this album. It's impossible. Try not to hum along to the songs when you here them. Besides, it's got a killer of a beginning.... So, for my second pick, it's U2's The Joshua Tree.

and in opposition of Dusty Baker's remark... credit the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel blog. But one of the most interesting of possible orders would have Ryan Braun batting second, a pitcher batting eighth and catcher Jason Kendall batting ninth. This idea isn't set yet, and it may not ever be used. It is just one of a flurry of ideas whizzing around inside the skipper's head. St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has done this some during the last few seasons. Yost's reasoning is that he wants Braun to have more plate apperances, but still be able to have guys on in front of him. So with Kendall's ability to see pitches and get on base, it would essentially translate to Braun still batting third while racking up about 40 more plate appearances, as stats show. In this lineup, Prince Fielder would bat third in the order, but it would be like having him in the clean-up slot. "Common sense tells me you want your best hitters to have the most at-bats," Yost said.

Cincinnati signed Josh Fogg to a 1 year deal. Well, I guess depth is depth although one would think that the Reds could use a minor league option instead of a guy with ERAs of 5.05, 5.49, and 4.94 in the past three seasons. The guy can't strike out hitters (5.7 K/9 last year) but he had a BB rate at 3.57 so that balances things I guess. Playing in the Great American Ballpark ought to help him cut down on his 13.92% home run rate last season too

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the Pirates have agreed to terms with Byung-Hyun Kim on a one-year contract. - What a free fall this guy's had. Actually got turned into a starter in Colorado and had a 5.42 ERA for Florida last year. Supposedly, Pittsburgh is gonna use him out of the bullpen rather than as a starter.

Here's a comparison of the bullpens (credit Yahoo for the early roster names). I only included the notable relievers for each team. Baltimore Greg Aquino: 4.49 ERA in 62.1 IP. 63 K vs. 29 BB. (2006 and 2007) Chad Bradford: 3.34 ERA in 64.2 IP. 39 K vs. 16 BB. Jamie Walker: 3.23 ERA in 61.1 IP. 41 K vs. 17 BB. George Sherrill: 2.36 ERA in 45.2 IP. 56 K vs. 17 BB. Chris Ray: 4.43 ERA in 42.2 IP. 44 K vs. 18 BB. Dennis Sarfate: 1.80 ERA in 8.1 IP. 14 K vs. 1 BB. (Could be a huge acquisition if he does similar over more innings) Tampa Bay Scott Dohmann: 3.31 ERA in 32.2 IP. 26 K vs. 18 BB. Trever Miller: 4.86 ERA in 46.1 IP. 46 K vs. 23 BB. Gary Glover: 4.89 ERA in 77.1 IP. 51 K vs. 27 BB. Troy Percival: 1.80 ERA in 40.0 IP. 36 K vs. 10 BB. Al Reyes: 4.90 ERA in 60.2 IP. 70 K vs. 21 BB. (Should see his ERA go down with better defense) Juan Salas: 3.72 ERA in 36.1 IP. 26 K vs. 17 BB. Dan Wheeler: 5.42 ERA in 74.2 IP. 82 K vs. 23 BB (See Al Reyes) IMO, it's about consistency. Baltimore needs to have another solid season out of the mentioned guys while Tampa Bay should see the bullpen ERA improve with better defense behind the pitcher. The question is, will the defense sustain throughout the season in Tampa Bay.

What's interesting is that LeCroy hit .239/.350/.373 in 2006 in his 67 AB with Washington (11 BB vs. 17 K). He had a line of .260/.354/.444 in 2005 and although he was woeful (.194/.281/.279 in 247 AB) in AAA last year, he could be a serviceable backup catcher as you said Bored. He still walked at a 10.5% rate in AAA. I like the signing overall considering the risk/reward. If he can get back to even the .330-.350 range in OBP and boost his SLG up a little, he could be a decent steal for the year.

Some "from the dead" revival news... credit Rotoworld. - Washington Nationals signed immortal 2B Bret Boone to a minor league contract. - New first base and and running coach Roberto Kelly said Sunday that he'll push the Giants to run more often this season.
