I was perusing some college stats at PFR and noticed the following (after Tebow's 20/20 season). Anybody else have any QBs who were close? QB Josh Harris (Bowling Green): Threw for 19 TD and ran for 20 TD in 2002. He also had 2 receiving TD(!) QB Ell Roberson (Kansas State): Threw for 24 TD and ran for 15 TD in 2003. QB Josh Cribbs (Kent State): Threw for 14 TD and ran for 14 TD in 2003. He also had 1 receiving TD. QB Troy Smith (Ohio State): Threw for 16 TD and ran for 11 TD in 2005. QB Eric Crouch (Nebraska): Threw for 11 TD and ran for 20 TD in 2000.

Some coaching changes at the FCS level... Alcorn State: Johnny Thomas is out. He's been largely mediocre (46-53 entering 2007). Went 2-8 this season. Florida A&M: Rubin Carter is out. He did well but his defense was considerably worse than his offensive production. Went 3-8 this season. Western Carolina: Kent Briggs is out. He was mediocre to poor, going 2-9 in 2006. Went 1-10 this season. Southern Utah: Wes Meier is out. See Rubin Carter but he sucked record wise. Went 0-11 this season. A brief recap of coaching hires for the 2007 season... From least productive to most productive. Kerwin Bell (Jacksonville): 3-8 Jerry Glanville (Portland State): 3-8 Pat Sullivan (Samford): 4-7 Reggie Barlow (Alabama State): 5-6 *Unsure if he stayed the head coach the full season as he was mentioned as interim*

    NFL WEEK ELEVEN- Proving grounds.

"I have no problem with that," Jauron said of the earlier fourth-down tries. "It's our job to stop it." As for the running up the score... I don't know if anybody else caught the stat, but the Patriots had 6 straight 60+ yard drives! It's not like the Patriots were getting the ball at the Bills 30 and scoring from there, drive after drive. When the Bills are letting the 4th string/5th string RBs in Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel gash them for 5-8 yard gains constantly, the onus is on the defense to stop the Patriots. Brady and Moss were pulled with 11 minutes left and the Patriots still had a 7 minute, 8 second drive of 41 yards after that!

Upsets continue in the FCS... Looks like Villanova will have knocked off Delaware. That makes the CAA bid interesting. Delaware beat James Madison but James Madison has the better overall record. Curious to see which team gets selected.

Interesting. I was looking at Graham's game logs... 2006 TCU (L 12-3): 204 yards with 0 TD vs. 0 INT. Texas A&M (W 31-27): 392 yards with 4 TD vs. 0 INT. Texas (L 35-31): 519 yards with 3 TD vs. 1 INT. Oklahoma (L 34-24): 250 yards with 2 TD vs. 1 INT. 2007 Oklahoma State (L 49-45): 646 yards with 5 TD vs. 0 INT. Texas A&M (W 35-7): 425 yards with 3 TD vs. 0 INT. Texas (L 59-43): 466 yards with 5 TD vs. 1 INT. In all of the above games that they lost, Texas Tech was able to score (except against TCU) but their defense seemed to be the problem. Harrell also seems to have trouble with Colorado (1 TD vs. 3 INT in '06 and 3 TD vs. 4 INT in '07) and Missouri (3 TD vs. 2 INT in '06 and 1 TD vs. 4 INT in '07).

Whoa... Does anybody else realize that Graham Harrell of Texas Tech has the following stats? 421/572 (73.60%) for 4,878 yards (8.53 YPA) and 43 TD vs. 12 INT (2.10%)... Already looks like Mike Leach and Harrell want a chance at surpassing Colt's yardage total last year with an outside shot at the TD mark. I can't decide which is more impressive, the nearly 74% completion rate with that many attempts or the low INT rate with that many attempts. Irregardless of whether it's a QB friendly system or not, it still takes a ton of talent to put up those kind of numbers.

    The College Football Thread 11/13 - 11/17

I find that interesting, VX. I've read from guys like June Jones in interviews that the Run and Shoot takes a year to 1 and 1/2 years for a QB to truly pick up (making Colt's success even more impressive). The one thing you can hang your hat on is that Portland State's been able to score a ton (43, 20, 68, 31, 36) especially with the 31 and 36 coming against both Montana and Montana State. Upside is that Hubel's only a Freshman so with more experience and understanding in the system, he should do really well.

Villanova could be a dangerous team. They've put up 24 against UMass, 35 against Hofstra, and 27 against Richmond. Honestly, I expect this game to go either 2 ways... 1: Delaware starts out hot and holds them to 14-21 and ends up winning 42-14/21... 2: Delaware starts out hot and it becomes a shootout. Final score being something like 42-38 or 35-34. On the whole, I love the Colonial Athletic Conference (partly 'cause I get it on a local station at college) but teams like William & Mary intrigue me. They're only 4-6 on the season yet they have an explosive offense at times as well. They've scored 31 against Delaware, 34 against UMass, and 34 against James Madison. They have one of the better QB friendly conferences in the FCS.
