Michigan turns it over on 4th down. 6:55 left in the 4th quarter now...
-
Michigan's lucky they're only down that much. Quick dropped a wide open easy TD pass (thus leading to the FG) and App. State just recovered a fumble at the Mich 28.
-
I understand. Although following on ESPN.com (please switch ESPN2), Michigan shot themselves in the foot with a few penalties allowing App. State a short field to drive. A penalty allowed App. State to get the ball at Michigan's 37 yard line and honestly, Avanti Edwards is playing out of his mind (along with the defense incl. a big 4th down attempt stop at the App. State 34).
-
I find the #1 FCS team beating up the #5 FBS team ironic (esp. seeing remarks at other boards that App. State is "just a IAA team" like they're another Murray State/Western Kentucky.)
-
Armanti Edwards = GOD... App. State takes the 21-14 lead off his 3rd TD pass of the 1st half. He's now a perfect 7/7 for 149 yards and 3 TD!
-
Appalachian State has tied Michigan at 14 apiece! QB Armanti Edwards is 5/5 for 102 yards including a 68 yard TD pass to Dexter Jackson. He just threw a 9 yard TD pass to Hans Batichon.

Seems like my 12 PM options are: East Carolina @ Virginia Tech, UAB @ Michigan State, Marshall @ Miami (may end up watching this game) or Colorado @ Colorado State... I was really hoping the Appalachian State/Michigan game would be on somewhere
-
I think to make the leagues more distinct in their separation regarding the way their championships work? IA = FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) and IAA = FCS (Football Championship Subdivision). My bad on the BCS/FBS mixup

Because nobody pays them any respect In all seriousness though, I currently attend a D3 college that doesn't have a football program and I have a soft for the "underdogs" so seeing an FCS take on a BCS team and possibly beat 'em is always a joy. I also grew up watching Steve McNair in the mid-90's when ESPN would air his Alcorn State games and remember them more vividly than other college games in terms of my childhood. Plus... playoff system! I also enjoy the DIAA/FCS because they don't have the exposure of DIA and those players/coaches truly revel/enjoy being in the spotlight when given the chance. The commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference last night was just gushing with gratitude about having an FCS game on CSTV and you could tell that it was genuine. It was a game on a station that probably isn't even that prominent but just getting exposure meant so much to the guy. How can you not love that?

I know that's a big financial boon to the sacrificial lambs like the University of Buffalo or Wright State University when Wisconsin comes to beat up on you before winning another Citrus Bowl, but from a competitive standpoint, it's impure, unfair, and well, really, kind of stupid. Just felt like pointing out that the financial boon is largely why FCS teams play BCS teams (BCS gets an easy win... usually). Imagine how much money Murray State got playing Louisville in their 60-70K stadium (or however many it seats) compared to playing a fellow non-conference team in front of 6-7K. That money could in turn be used back on the college for scholarships to students or athletes. As far as competition, it's no fun seeing dominant BCS teams like Michigan (although playing App. State should be a fun challenge I hope), Ohio State, Louisville, Wisconsin, etc. slaughter an FCS team but I do enjoy the "lower level" BCS teams like an Idaho, North Carolina, East Carolina, etc. taking on an FCS team where the play may be more level and allow for an FCS team to have a great chance at pulling off the "upset" while still maybe getting a larger gate than they could otherwise.

Big FCS Statline of the night... Delaware RB: Omar Cuff. 30 Carries for 244 yards (8.1 YPC) and 6 TD in a 49-31 victory over William & Mary. To note, W&M QB Jake Phillips threw for 433 yards too.
-
Drake upsets #7 Illinois State 27-24. Western Illinois is in a dogfight with #20 South Dakota State. Currently 23-23 in the 3rd OT.
-
Eastern Illinois takes a 38-17 lead over Tennessee Tech to start off the 4th quarter. WR Micah Rucker (6'6" and 221 lbs.) has been a beast with 150+ yards receiving and 2 TD thus far and is a good NFL prospect for the '08 NFL Draft (Look at Rice, Rod Smith, Donald Driver, Marques Colston, Randy Moss for a bit, and Terrell Owens as other FCS products).

OMG! Had to throw this out there for those with DirecTV. Channel 610, CSTV = TT vs. EI. Commentators? Jonathan Coachman!!! and Rolan Williams. Yes... the WWE's Coachman.
-
I'll be flipping b/w LSU vs. Mississippi State, Murray State vs. Louisville, and Tennessee Tech vs. #17 Eastern Illinois. I'm curious to see how the change in kickoff distance back to the 30 yard line changes things too.

Well, their schedule looks like this... 1: Home vs. Pittsburgh 2: Home vs. Cincinnati 3: Away vs. Oakland 4: Home vs. Baltimore 5: Away vs. New England That's a really tough stretch and regardless if they would go 0-5 anyway, Brady could get killed by those defenses. Is it worth having him get roughed up and potentially injured just to throw him into the fire for a 6-10/7-9 season at best anyway? If I were the Browns, I'd let Quinn sit until Week 6 when he faces Miami. He then has a bye for 7 and has a stretch where he faces teams like St. Louis, Houston, Arizona, and Buffalo while still getting a taste of tough D's like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincinnati.

Sounds good. at you mentioning me as I was typing this up. Do you mean RB where WR is (Jordan & Foster)? Also love the Foster grab so late. Sure he's in a RBBC but I think that too many people are in love with the "upside" of DeAngelo Williams vs. John Fox's consistent love of Foster and his veteran capabilities. Last year, Foster had a 4.0 YPC vs. William's remarkable 4.1. In 2005, Foster had a 4.3 YPC. I think a lot of FFers underestimate Foster b/c they are high on the "next young hot stud RB" rather than looking at the overall picture.

Working fine for me this morning.

My big FCS games I'm looking forward to seeing the results for are - #8 James Madison @ North Carolina: NC nearly got upset by Furman in that 45-42 shootout last season. JMU still has RB Eugene Holloman and WR L.C. Baker to be threats on offense despite the loss of QB Justin Rascati. - #13 Portland State @ #10 McNeese State: Glanville & Mouse Davis make their debut/return to Portland State against a Top 10 FCS team.

Los Angeles takes on Chivas USA at 9:30 ET tonight on ESPN 2. I'm currently watching the NY/LA game on ESPN Classic and damn, this is actually exciting! If only more soccer games were like this (Right now it's only 2-1 but there's been at least 4-5 shots on goal since I turned it on).
-
I'm overly happy with my team but concerned how my QB situation will work if Kitna ever goes down to injury.
-
Reminder: The NML draft will be held in roughly 4 and 1/2 hours (6:00 PM ET, 3:00 PM Pacific, 4:00 PM Mountain, and 5:00 PM Central)

No. It was one offensive player with the ball at the side covered by 1 defender. There were 3 other defenders in the camera range with no other offensive player in the camera vicinity (I presume there was a midfielder back and one attacker towards the goal line) but it seemed rather strange given that it limits the ability to attack on a turnover. The defender managed to wrestle the ball away and as a result, there were only 2 players up ahead with the other 3 defenders, now on offense, right around the guy with the ball. Thanks for the comment, Massito. Are there any MLS teams that favor that kind of strategy or are they more European style?
