Here's a look from 1998 through the present. 1998 - Peyton Manning: Started Week 1 on. - Ryan Leaf: Started Week 1 on. - Charlie Batch: Started Week 3 on (over Scott Mitchell and Frank Reich). - Brian Griese: Sat behind John Elway (and Bubby Brister). - Matt Hasselbeck: Sat behind Brett Favre. 1999 - Tim Couch: Started Week 2 on (over Ty Detmer). - Donovan McNabb: Started Week 9 on (Attempted 11 passes in Weeks 2 and 3 though). - Akili Smith: Started Week 2 through 8 and got injured IIRC. - Daunte Culpepper: Sat behind Jeff George and Randall Cunningham. - Cade McNown: Started Weeks 5-8 and 15-17 (Over Jim Miller and Shane Matthews). - Shaun King: Started Weeks 13-17 (Over Trent Dilfer). - Aaron Brooks: Sat behind Brett Favre. 2000 - Chad Pennington: Sat behind Vinny Testaverde. - Chris Redman: Sat behind Tony Banks and Trent Dilfer. - Marc Bulger: Sat behind Kurt Warner. - Tom Brady: Sat behind Drew Bledsoe. 2001 - Michael Vick: Started Weeks 4, 12, 16, and 17 (Over Chris Chandler). - Drew Brees: Sat behind Doug Flutie but started Week 8. - Quincy Carter: Started Weeks 12-17 (Over Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf, and Clint Stoerner). - Chris Weinke: Started Week 1 on. - A.J. Feeley: Sat behind Donovan McNabb (Did start Week 17). 2002 - David Carr: Started Week 1 on. - Joey Harrington: Started Week 3 on (Over Mike McMahon). - Patrick Ramsey: Started Weeks 5-7 and 14-17 (Over Shane Matthews and Danny Wuerffel). - Josh McCown: Sat behind Jake Plummer. - David Garrard: Sat behind Mark Brunell (Did start Week 17). 2003 - Carson Palmer: Sat behind Jon Kitna. - Byron Leftwich: Started Week 4 on (Over Mark Brunell). - Kyle Boller: Started Weeks 1 - 10 (Over Anthony Wright and Chris Redman). - Rex Grossman: Sat behind Kordell Stewart and Chris Chandler (But started Weeks 15-17). - Chris Simms: Sat behind Brad Johnson and Shaun King. 2004 - Eli Manning: Started Weeks 11-17 (Over Kurt Warner). - Philip Rivers: Sat behind Drew Brees. - Ben Roethlisberger: Started Week 2 on (Over Tommy Maddox). - J.P. Losman: Sat behind Drew Bledsoe. - Matt Schaub: Sat behind Michael Vick (Started Weeks 16-17). 2005 - Alex Smith: Started Week 5 on (Over Tim Rattay and Ken Dorsey). - Aaron Rodgers: Sat behind Brett Favre. - Jason Campbell: Sat behind Mark Brunell. - Charlie Frye: Started Weeks 13-17 (Over Trent Dilfer). - Andrew Walter: Sat behind Kerry Collins. - Kyle Orton: Started Week 1 on. 2006 - Vince Young: Started Weeks 2-17 (Had 20 attempts in Week 2). - Matt Leinart: Started Weeks 5-16 (Over Kurt Warner). - Jay Cutler: Started Weeks 13-17 (Over Jake Plummer). - Tarvaris Jackson: Started Weeks 15-17 (Over Brad Johnson). - Bruce Gradkowski: Started Weeks 5-14 (Over Chris Simms and Tim Rattay). Overall, I think that while players "sitting for half the season" may be true in some cases, it's equally true that some QBs are starting right from the get go or early on in the season. Also, many of the QBs who "sat" were behind good QBs at the time so the need to be thrown in early wasn't as pressing. The only QBs who "started over the latter half of the season" or longer in the last 5 years were: Josh McCown, David Garrard, Carson Palmer, Rex Grossman, Chris Simms, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, J.P. Losman, Matt Schaub, Aaron Rodgers, Jason Campbell, Charlie Frye, Andrew Walter, Jay Cutler, and Tarvaris Jackson (15 QBs). On the flipside were: David Carr, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller, Ben Roethlisberger, Alex Smith, Kyle Orton, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, and Bruce Gradkowski (11 QBs).

RB Chris Perry could miss the first 6 weeks (and maybe all season) on the PUP list. I could see the Bengals cutting him after this season and just relying on a two back set of Rudi Johnson & Kenny Irons. Wonder where Perry would end up though given that he's constantly injured. Marshall Faulk also handed in his retirement papers. It's amazing how sick he was from 1998 through 2001. Probably one of the Top 15 RBs of all time (maybe Top 10).

I'd definitely be leaning towards Westbrook with Alexander as a runner up although Addai could be a sneaky little RB#2 pick who performs as a RB#1 IMO. As for the QBs still around in Rounds 5/6: Vince Young, Donovan McNabb, Jon Kitna, Matt Leinart, and Jay Cutler. Only guy I would've taken would be Kitna (maybe McNabb). I'm not sold on VY or Leinart/Cutler just yet. The reason I chose Rambo (my nick for Roethlisberger b/c of his usually high YPA) is because he finished at 14.95 FPPG last season on a big down year. I think he could top 16+ if he gets back to a normal solid season (That'd put him at QB11 last year if he was at 16.00).

I also despise protesting trades but... 5 guys all ranked at 170 or better including 2 in the Top 90 for Prince Fielder? The most I could deal with would be a Helton/Young/Matsui (25 HR, 157 RBI) for Fielder and even that's a tad on the too much side but not one I'd outright reject.

I'm curious to see how Glanville turns the defense around. They went 7-4 last year and 6-5 the year before and this year shouldn't be any easier with Montana State (8-5) and Montana (12-2) still around.

Just bumping this to get thoughts on my early startup Keeper league draft. Note: We keep 4 players each year and 1 "rookie" project for 3 years. What If...?

Surprisingly, the '94 Steelers D was pretty great. Only 234 PA on the season while ranking Top 7 or higher in every category except pass INT and pass attempts. They only allowed 7 rushing TD and 12 passing TD (vs. 17 INT). Outside of the SB, Young was very pedestrian in the 2 prior playoff games. He had 143 yards passing and 155 yards passing (on 22 and 29 attempts) with 3 TD vs. 0 INT. He also had 32 and 47 yards rushing in each game. If anything, the What If simulator merely prolonged that performance to the "Super Bowl" game and given the Steelers D, that may not have been that far fetched. Interestingly, the Belichek Browns only allowed 204 points that season too Here's my what if... What if the 1995 Browns had won some of the close games they lost? Instead of going 5-11 they went 9-7? Would they have been given a Wild Card nod over Indianapolis or San Diego? Also if they had made the playoffs, would Belichek have stayed there as Head Coach?

Terminator 2 - Arnold appearing in the Piscadero Mental Hospital and Linda's reaction to him. Batman '89: The whole rooftop scene from the two thugs conversing to Batman disappearing.

    What If...?

I was bored and did the following on the WhatIf Sports Simulator... Sites along with Away vs. Home were taken from that year's superbowl. I was curious what would happen if a couple "Championship Games" finished the other way. 1998 Minnesota Vikings (15-1, 556 PF) vs. 1998 Denver Broncos (14-2, 501 PF) @ Qualcomm Stadium - Denver Broncos win 27-24 on an Ed McCaffrey 5 yard TD catch with 2:05 left in the game. - MVP: RB Terrell Davis with 22 carries for 158 yards and 2 TD. Also had 1 catch for 40 yards. - John Elway went 10/16 for 180 yards and 1 TD. -6 yards rushing on 5 carries. - Randall Cunningham went 14/25 for 237 yards and 3 TD. 1994 Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4, 316 PF) vs. 1994 San Francisco 49ers (13-3, 505 PF) @ Joe Robbie Stadium. - Pittsburgh Steelers win 17-9. - MVP: QB Neil O'Donnell with 12/22 for 182 yards with 1 TD. 0 yards rushing on 2 carries. - Steve Young went 17/22 for 183 yards with 0 TD and 0 INT. 19 yards rushing on 4 carries. - Jerry Rice had 5 catches for 29 yards. - Bam Morris had 13 carries for 65 yards and 1 catch for 5 yards with 0 TD. 2001 St. Louis Rams (14-2, 503 PF) vs. 2001 Pittsburgh Steelers (13-3, 352 PF) @ Louisiana Superdome - Pittsburgh Steelers win 24-14. - MVP: WR Isaac Bruce with 4 catches for 129 yards and 2 TD. Also had 1 carry for 9 yards. - Kurt Warner went 18/26 for 313 yards with 2 TD and 3 INT. 2 yards rushing on 2 carries. - Marshall Faulk had 19 carries for 155 yards with 4 catches for 43 yards. 0 TD. - Jerome Bettis had 22 carries for 181 yards with 1 TD. - Chad Scott had 7 tackles with 1 INT.

What I hate more is that, along with the weekly change rule, I'm subject to basically being forced to start 5 SP in order to know that I can reach the minimum inning rule while leaving a RP stud in Broxton on my bench. Having 4 SP basically means needing at least 5.0 IP from each. Two bad outings (Say 4.0 IP) ala Sabbathia and El Duque leaves me with needing 20 IP between my 3 MR and other 2 SP not to mention the hit in ERA. From my MR I'd get 8.1 IP and my other 2 SP = 12.2. That comes out to 21.1 IP and that's assuming my MR's don't get shelled and can go 2-3 IP each that week. Also the lack of a deep bench kinda sucks too

    What If...?

Here are some that I'm intrigued by... (note: Not "Homer" teams) #1: In 1987, the San Francisco 49ers acquired QB Steve Young via trade. What if the 49ers had never traded for Young or instead traded for a similar young QB like a Randy Wright from the Green Bay Packers? #2: What if RB Robert Edwards hadn't gotten injured? Would Pete Carroll have found some more success as head coach? *Okay... slight homerism there* #3: What if Morten Andersen missed the FG in the '98 Championship Game and the Vikings won? #4: What if Barry Sanders didn't retire prior to the 1999 Season? The Lions had gone 9-7 in '97 with a Wild Card playoff game under HC Bobby Ross and went 8-8 in 1999 without Barry while losing another Wild Card playoff game under Ross. #5: What if the New Orleans Saints had drafted a capable QB such as Jim Harbaugh at pick #11 in the 1987 NFL Draft? What about QB Chris Chandler with pick #25 in the 2nd Round of the 1988 NFL Draft? Would they have possibly made it to the Super Bowl?

    Golf Thread - June

Here are the guys I'm watching out for tomorrow... Aaron Baddeley - Has nailed a 70 par the last 2 rounds and has just been consistent. Tiger Woods - Outside of Round 2, he's shot a +1 in R1 and a -1 in R3. If he can repeat or better Round 3, he can run away. Paul Casey - Has been an enigma, swinging from a 77 to a crazy 66. He managed to stay in the hunt with a 72 in R3 but if he can manage to shoot a 68-67, he can find himself the winner. Justin Rose - A bit of an outside shot but he managed to shoot +1 in Rounds 1 and 2. If he can shoot a +1 or better in R4, he has a chance. Steve Stricker - Has been improving with each round from a +5 to a +3 to a solid -2 in R3. If he can repeat today's performance or even better it, he could be a surprise shot. Stuart Appleby - Like Stricker, he's improved each round from a +4 to a +2 and a +1 today. He needs a really strong R4 but is capable if his improvement can continue.

I'm surprised the announcers aren't making more of a case of Casey whipping out that 66, especially at Oakmont of all courses given how many other golfers are just struggling.

    Commissioner for a day

NHL - Change the scoring point system. Ideally, I'd make it W/L/T but give 3 points for a W, 0 points for a L, 0 points for an Overtime Tie, and 1 point for an Overtime W. Ottawa at 48-25-9 shouldn't be finishing behind Atlanta at 43-28-11... Anaheim & Vancouver with 48 & 49 wins finished ahead of Nashville and San Jose at 51 W each. This would place emphasis on actually winning the game and force teams to quit playing the end of regulation games for the OT so they can still get 1 point if they lose.

    Movies you like...

I'm throwing in Father Hood with Patrick Swayze, Halle Berry, Michael Ironside, and a young Sabrina Lloyd. A really cheesy, lame movie about a father on the run suddenly rescuing his two kids he's never know he's had and basically bonding with them while on the run. Nothing really special but I'll watch it everytime it's on.
