As a Pats fan, I was surprised... and the play stands? Wow. Even I think that should have been overturned.

    NHL Thread: November Edition

Glen Murray seals the Bruins comeback victory in overtime with a 5-3 powerplay goal, great job by the Bruins playing to the end of the game and hustling the whole way.

    NHL Thread: November Edition

Bruins down 5-4 entering the 3rd after 7 total goals in the 2nd period. Hannu let in a dribbler as the 5th goal and it won't shock me if Thomas comes in soon.

Some I-AA results to key matchups... #22 Maine beat up on Northeastern 30-3. #3 Massachusetts held off #9 New Hampshire 28-20. #16 San Diego (underrated as hell rank wise IMO) beat up Jacksonville 38-21. William and Mary upset #21 Towson 29-28. #7 Youngstown State held off #12 Southern Illinois 31-24.

    NFL Week 9

It's interesting to see the duality of the Colts and Patriots D... Patriots - 3rd in PPG allowed and 3rd in rushing yards per game allowed - 11th in total yards per game - Tied for 6th in sacks Colts - 22nd in PPG allowed and 32nd in rushing yards per game allowed at 167.9. The only reason they have low passing yards is cause teams don't need to throw. - 2nd to last in sacks with 11 - 20th in total yards per game My prediction: Patriots win this one 27-10

Spicy, I'd say those undefeated teams have tough home stretches each. West Virginia has the toughest of the 3 though. I don't know if I'd argue a National Championship but I could see West Virginia making a case if they go undefeated. Louisville: #3 West Virginia, #15 Rutgers, a current 5-3 South Florida team, and a current 6-2 Pittsburgh team before an easy game over Connecticut. West Virginia: #5 Louisville, 5-4 Cincinnati, 6-2 Pittsburgh, 5-3 South Florida, and #15 Rutgers. Rutgers: #5 Louisville, 5-4 Cincinnati, gimme vs. Syracuse, and #3 West Virginia.

As far as I've found, these are the conferences with automatic bids (looks like some great teams may get screwed). Gateway Southern Atlantic 10 Southland Ohio Valley Patriot League MEAC Big Sky

If anything, it shows just how good the 5 team conferences are as they are forced to play more out of conference games, usually against top competition since they're in a smaller conference and need to prove themselves to the playoff committee. They can't afford to face easy competition, especially if their division is tough like the Great West where the top 4 of the 5 teams are a combined 6-3 in conference play. For comparison, the Ivy League Northeast has two teams at 1-4 and one at 0-5 in conference play. It's like comparing Michigan playing Ohio State, Penn State, and Minnesota to East Carolina playing UCF, UAB, and Memphis.

Here are the number of .500+ level teams in the leagues I chose. Atlantic 10 Southern: 4 of 6 teams Great West: 4 of 5 teams Gateway: 5 of 8 teams (and Western Illinois is 4-5) Big South: 3 of 5 teams (Reasoning: 1 is 8-0 and the other two are 6-2) Northeast: 4 of 8 teams (with 2 teams having 4-5 records though) Ohio Valley: 5 of 9 teams SWAC East: 4 of 5 teams MEAC: 5 of 9 teams (with 1 team at 4-5) The Pioneer League is solid, 4 of 8 teams with .500+ records (could edge the Big South) but the down teams are all 3-6 at best at the moment, which hurts them IMO.

I-AA Playoffs An NCAA committee, comprised of knowledgeable administrators from various institutions around the country, holds teleconferences during the season to assemble regional rankings. They meet in Indianapolis on the final weekend of the regular season in November to select 16 teams for the I-AA playoffs. Eight teams receive automatic bids as champions of the strongest I-AA leagues and eight other teams are selected as at-large entrants. Four teams are seeded and four of the other teams in the field are selected to host first-round games. The 16 teams are bracketed and the month-long tournament begins. Credit to I-AA.org Currently the 8 strongest I-AA leagues are IMO (not in order)... - Atlantic Ten Southern - Great West - Gateway - Big South - Northeast - Ohio Valley - SWAC East - MEAC

Thanks, Samurai! I also find it fun, especially with the I-AA playoffs coming up in about 4 weeks or so. Hope to give a sense of which teams are good and I'll likely do a write up of players on playoff teams to watch for when the playoffs roll around.

Another big week in I-AA Football pitting numerous Top 25 teams against one another. My I-AA Game of the Week: #3 Massachusetts vs. #9 New Hampshire. QBs Liam Coen (#1 in QB Rating) and Ricky Santos (#9 in QB Rating) square off in what could be a high scoring shootout. #12 Southern Illinois vs. #7 Youngstown State #6 Cal Poly vs. #2 Montana Possible upset games #5 North Dakota State vs. UC Davis #25 Portland State vs. Northern Arizona Delaware vs. #4 James Madison Penn vs. #23 Princeton

Very seconded. Sure, the guy can put out a great article from time to time but when he puts out crap... ugh.

    The NHL Thread - October

Skull, if you've noticed people like myself and Leena post about our teams and usually what they're doing well/wrong. You seemed to be taunting us with the fact that we weren't constantly crowing about Crosby, Malkin, etc. with the ____, eh? You came off as if gloating when none of us were even questioning if the guys you mentioned were any good or not.

    Celebrity Paranormal

Anyway, on VH1 there was a show called Celebrity Paranormal featuring celebrities like Hal Sparks, Gary Busey, and Donna d'Errico. They investigated the Waverly Hills Sanitorium and some of the stuff was wicked creepy including the shadow kid on the rooftop that Hal saw as well as the screaming (most significantly, the one where Hal was doing the spirit writing and both he and Jenna Morasca were absolutely silent during it.) Also the footsteps and the brief shadow image that Donna seen was weird, kinda wish they had EVP'd the place or used the wide angle cameras a bit more during the presentation. Extremely reminiscent of MTV's "Fear" for whomever were fans of that show.

    The NHL Thread - October

Bruins pull out a 2-1 victory. - Great effort from Tim Thomas with some really great saves including a sprawling, reach back glove save. - Very good job on the penalty kill, especially in the 3rd period. - The B's were definitely being more aggressive this game in terms of being physical with the other team. - I really like the aggresiveness Kessel has towards the net. At one point, he had 6 of the 12 Bruins shots.

Towson and Delaware ended in a shootout and surprise, surprise, the 3rd upset of the week occurred. Towson defeated #25 Delaware 49 - 35.
