WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

Some interesting rumors I've found through searching Google groups...all of these are credited to Dave Meltzer unless otherwise indicated. The dates are of the posts themselves. Some of this stuff is amazing... 1993-07-08 (Herb Kunze): At the suggestion of Sid Vicious, The Ebony Experience (Harlem Heat) would come in as The Posse. They would be a heel tag team dressed in prison garb led in shackles to the ring by Col. Robert Parker. 1993-07-15 (Herb Kunze): Hollywood Blondes would turn face and feud with the Nasty Boys after the Nasty Boys would win the Tag Titles. 1994-02-03: The WCW booking committee after Dusty Rhodes got booted consisted of Greg Gagne, Mike Graham, Robert Fuller, Ric Flair, Eric Bischoff, and Bill Shaw. 1995-01-12: WCW was nervous enough about Jean Paul Levesque jumping to the WWF that they offered him and Steven Regal the WCW Tag Titles as heels and they would be managed by Sherri Martel after she turned on Harlem Heat. 1996-01-18: The wrestlers had to turn their belts into the office after each taping because Bischoff was paranoid one of them would pull a "Madusa." 1996-05-03: Jushin Liger was scheduled to win the WCW US Title from Konnan and then feud with Dean Malenko over it. 1997-12-15: WCW had interest in also obtaining the services of Yokozuna at the time with Hogan presumably pushing for it so he could avenge his loss. 1997-12-26: Konnan had been sending talent to Vince McMahon and the WWF as a result of bad blood towards Eric Bischoff. 1997-12-27: Hulk Hogan was given a motorcycle, ring, banners, and a car as a bribe to get him to drop the WCW title to Sting. Hogan got to keep everything but the car. 1998-04-14: Vince McMahon put out a public offer saying he was willing to pay both Scott Hall and Kevin Nash $1.50 Million a year if they could get out of their WCW contracts.

Rankings/votes based on Sports Network for a note of caution. Notes on Leena's post: Cal Poly is currently ranked #3 and North Dakota St. is #14 Other fun I-AA vs. I-A matchups... Howard vs. Rutgers Citadel vs. Pittsburgh #13 McNeese State vs. Toledo SE Louisiana vs. Texas Tech Bigger I-AA matchups to keep an eye on if you follow I-AA at all. #16 UC Davis vs. #8 Youngstown State #22 Western Carolina vs. #4 Furman #21 Towson vs. Hofstra (received 84 votes) Harvard (received 160 votes) vs. Brown (received 90 votes) Mississippi Valley State (received 69 votes) vs. Jackson State (received 7 votes)

I wouldn't be surprised to see some of those I-AA teams attempting to move up over the next few years, if they have the proper attendance level and could secure a conference affiliation (Sun Belt most likely). Furman won the I-AA title in the last few years, IIRC. Considering how Marshall stepped up and immediately competed on the I-A level, I'd say they could move up and not be an embarassment like FIU, FAU, and Buffalo. Yeah. The past 5 national champions: Appalachain State (2005), James Madison (2004), Delaware (2003), Western Kentucky (2002), and Montana (2001). My vote for team to move up: Montana has made it to the I-AA championship 3 times in the past 6 seasons. They lost in the 2004 title game to James Madison. They've also gone 40-14 since 2002 thus averaging 10-3.

It's interesting the close scores... Wofford lost to South Carolina 27-20. Idaho barely beat Idaho State 27-24. Louisiana Tech beat Nicholls State 31-21. Southern Illinois won over Indiana 35-28. North Carolina is getting a run for their money from Furman 38-35 with 3:08 left. That's 5 games (1-4 record* pending Furman game) decided by 10 points or less featuring I-AA teams against, in some cases, very solid I-A teams. It won't surprise me at all if we see more and more I-AA teams "upsetting" I-A teams in the next couple years.

In I-AA news... Penn upset #11 Lafeyette behind RB Joe Sandberg's 166 yards rushing and 2 TD scampers of 1 yard and 36 yards. Murray State and Indiana State also combined for 99 points, including 42 in the 4th quarter alone. RB Chad Cook had 25 carries for 223 yards and 3 TD for Murray State.

Matt Ryan gets picked off on a tipped pass with 0:20 left around the 40 yard line....ugh!! 51 yard FG attempt by BYU gets hooked wide left!! Looks like we're heading to OT.

BYU and Boston College are playing a tight (23-23 tie with 1:40 left) but ugly game. BYU FG attempt bounced off the uprights and BC has missed a couple XP opportunities as well.

#1 New Hampshire is just slaughtering Stony Brook 55-7 with 10:23 left in the 3rd quarter...sheesh. David Ball only needed 3 TD to tie Rice's mark so odds are he could've reached that. If so, ESPN better say something at least.

    Fantasy Football

Unless it's collusion, it should've gone through. Anybody that vetoes a trade on the grounds "they" think it's "unfair" are just scared that two teams could've improved over their unchanged ones. There've been numerous examples in past years that show great players can stumble and subpar players can have breakout seasons. If an owner think a trade'll help their team, it's their fault if it doesn't work out for them.

Just supportive of the division as a whole though I try to follow how UMass does since I have 2 cousins who've graduated from there.

Key I-AA games because everybody needs to learn to love them sooner rather than later Players after the colons are the I-AA guys to keep an eye out for. Furman vs. North Carolina: WR Justin Stepp Wofford vs. South Carolina: RB Kevious Johnson Southern Illinois vs. Indiana: RB Arkee Whitlock Grambling State vs. Houston: QB Brandon Landers, WR Lakeldrick Bridges

Keep in mind the financial aspect for I-AA schools to play these I-A teams. There's definitely some gate going towards the I-AA school that gets the school paid more than if they were playing another I-AA team.

I-AA continues to show they can hang with I-A teams as New Hampshire defeated Northwestern 34-17 thanks to 2 passing TD and 3 rushing TD by Ricky Santos. Navy also won a hard fought game 21-20 over Massachusetts after a FG with 5:55 left.

Not.even.a.chance. I figure the #1 will be Reche Caldwell with the #2 being Troy Brown. I've heard things that Chad Jackson has been struggling with getting the playbook thus his slow progression so I think it's between CJ and Gabriel as the 4th WR at the moment. Given how well Bam Childress has played, I wouldn't be surprised if he saw some time at the #3 WR slot. I could see Bam/Gabriel alternating turns at the #3 spot with Bam getting the role first. I think eventually CJ will wind up as the #3 with Gabriel netted as the #4 in the deep threat role.

Some marquee I-AA games to keep an eye on... #9 Massachusetts vs. Navy #1 Appalachian State vs. #12 James Madison (mainly for QB Justin Rascati on JMU) #22 Texas State vs. Kentucky New Hampshire vs. Northwestern (mainly for QB Ricky Santos and WR David Ball on UNH)

From what I gather, the cop did all that he could. He notified Foley numerous times that he was a cop, called for backup, fired warning shots, and yet Foley still came at him and the female drove the car at the cop. I've read at other forums that Foley has been arrested 3-4 times prior for things like DUI. *wishes DUIs were treated with harsher penalties*

To add to the greatness of I-AA and it's eventual superiority that'll surface next year... #15 Richmond beat up Duke 13-0 Kansas State also barely held off #9 Illinois State 24-23. The 2 point conversion by ISU failed with 3:02 left in the game.

Notre Dame kept their cool and are now up 14-10 and looking to add another TD with it being 3rd down now around the 19 and McKnight drops an easy 1st down...damn.

They still have Vernand Morency and a North/South runner in UFA Wali Lundy as a RBBC. Houston can easily see one of those guys emerge as a starter ala Terrell Davis coming out of nowhere in Denver.
