Granted, Mientkiewicz is good with the glove but I wouldn't deem Millar as David Ortiz in the field. Millar can field adequately enough and is much better with the bat than Doug. The big question is whether the RC between Millar and Mientkiewicz would outweigh the RA by the two in the field.

I'm totally killing my guy this off-season, somehow pigeons will likely be involved. *clutches title of career leader in triples to chest* Am I the career leader in steals?

I'd call it "The Not So Boston Garden"

A DISGRACE? Geez, we're not inducting Jose Canseco here. If it makes you feel better Dale Murphy can come too. It's not a matter of character, etc. I'm talking disgrace due to the stats he put up. Outside of 1961, he was decent-solid with the bat. If you induct Maris, you'd have to induct the following: - Jeromy Burnitz(275 HR in 12 seasons...the same as Maris and Burnitz has 4 100+ RBI seasons) - Dante Bichette(274 HR in 14 seasons with 5 100+ RBI seasons) - Danny Tartabull(262 HR in 14 seasons with 5 100+ RBI seasons) - Moises Alou(278 HR in 13 seasons with 5 100+ RBI seasons) - Dean Palmer(275 HR in 14 seasons with 4 100+ RBI seasons) Would you call any of those guys legit Hall of Famers on the same level as a George Brett, Joe Dimaggio, or Eddie Murray? All Maris had going for him was that 61 HR season. Yes, it's a fabulous season and a record breaking one at that....but it was just one season and the HOF is meant for the careers. If you induct Maris, you're therefore lowering the standards for a career to induct others and the HOF is supposed to be for the great players of the game over their careers. Also Dale Murphy had 310 HR and 5 100+ RBI seasons by his 12th season.
-
Maris never topped 39 HR's in any other season beside the 61... and he only had three 100 RBI seasons in 12 seasons if you want to go down that route. Screw the poor life and sentimentality stuff, the guy doesn't even come close to being a HOFer and would be a disgrace to those who've put up better numbers and haven't made it.

The TSM MLB Keeper(don't think there's any open spots though) and Dr. Tom's TSM leagues will both be OBP based.

Beltre: .273/.346/.464 with 33 HR's and 3 SB Sleepers: 3B David Wright, RF Nick Swisher, 2B Jeff Kent, SP Andy Pettite, and SP Wade Miller

Couldn't they just pull out the TNBA Scarecrow look? http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Makeup/5158/scrow.gif -
Amazing how soon people forget how solid Farnsworth was in 2001 and 2003 no less. 2.74 ERA in 82 IP with 107 K/29 BB in 01 and 3.30 ERA in 76.30 IP with 92 K/36 BB. In 2004, he had similar numbers at 66.7 IP with 78 K/33 BB. His problem was surrendering hits(67) which could be blamed on poor defense. He also allowed 10 HR, his 2nd highest total as a reliever(14 in 2000 but he also had 5 starts). From May - July, he had a 2.59 ERA in 42 appearances. 41 IP with a 54 K/23 BB rate and allowed 32 hits with 4 HR.

To ask Belichek to get to 3 straight SB's is insane. The Dallas Cowboys of the early 90's didn't make 3 straight SB's. Buffalo made it 4 straight times, Denver made it 3 of 4 years, the "great" Steelers teams of the 70's only made it 2 times in a row, SF made it 2 years in a row, and Minnesota made it 3 of 4 years. No team aside from Buffalo has made it more than 2 straight times. SB Wins: Dallas 3 in 4, New England 3 in 4, Pittsburgh 4 in 6(with 2 years of not making it in a row), SF had 3 in 6 and 3 in 7...

Also, when Branch was injured during the season, David Givens came in and basically became Troy Brown WR V. 3.0(Troy was the go to guy in 2001 and 2002 with 101 and 97 catches, then it switched to Branch last year and Givens/Branch this season).

Loved the Burt Reynolds one and the Superheroes one...especially dug the Underdog appearance and him basically getting told to piss off.

I'd go so far as to say that what the Pats have done is made greater by the fact that they were able to take advantage(with the exception of the Eagles last drive where they killed themselves) of the opposition's mistakes. I wouldn't argue that they are faster/stronger/bigger than some of the other teams in the league however I would say that they execute better than any other team in the league. When you look at past teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, and Steelers they were the same way. They may not have been the biggest, fastest, or strongest teams in the league but they executed in a way that couldn't be matched.

I figure the rotation will likely be Fossum, Nomo, Bell, Kazmir, and Brazelton. Hendrickson could move to the bullpen or take Nomo's spot and Nomo could move to the bullpen instead.

Have to agree, TO and Westbrook brought their A-Games. Also why is anybody surprised at McNabb's errant throws? He's had that trouble the whole season but was usually bailed out by TO or the Philly D. While he may not throw many INT's, his passes are nothing to be awed by. Also a big hearty to Corey Dillon for going for 100+ total yards, 1 TD and winning the SB after leaving Cincy.

and the Pats ice it with an INT as the defense came up huge this game.

http://www.baseballamerica.com A fabulous site that focuses on the minor league system of MLB with articles and up to date statistics. They also cover the Winter leagues as well as the independent leagues. Some of the content is pay content but you can still find a variety of articles that are free. The Top 10 Prospects articles are definitely worth checking out. http://www.thebaseballcube.com Another great site that will give you major and minor league stats for a variety of players. Thus far, the farthest I've seen minor league stats go back was in the late 60's. You can also see how current minor leaguers have done in their minor league career or even how guys like Pujols and Chipper Jones did in the minors.

What I find funny is that the Mets really shouldn't have been considered a cinderella team in 1986. They led the NL in RS and RA and had a 205 run differential. 1969, they were definitely a miracle team. They were 9th in the NL in RS and 2nd in RA. So, while their pitching was dominant, their hitting was very suspect.
-
Not sure if they had batter vs pitcher splits back then(Not sure where to look for that matter as Retrosheet doesn't show B vs P and Yahoo doesn't come close to going that far back). I did find that Nolan was 56-36 in September with a career 2.88 ERA. He also was 24-14 vs Kansas City with a 2.65 ERA for his career.

Buddy has a 4.03 ERA in 330 appearances with Baltimore from 2000-2004. At age 40, it's doubtful that Groom will make the team.

They're all pissed that Jacksonville isn't of the same magnitude of a New Orleans and that the weather hasn't been sunny and in the 70's for every day that they've been there. To that: I say fuck them. They are there for free and get to see the SB live for free and I'd kill to do their job.
