    And So it Begins

Ben Grieve would be a pretty optimal choice to platoon with DuBois as already mentioned I believe. He only made $700,000 last year and at that price, he'd be a great pickup.

Randy Johnson Trade to the Yankees

On the contrary, he's remained fairly consistent in his three seasons with the Dodgers. His H/9 has been 7.4, 9.3, and 8.3(last season). His BB/9 has been 1.5, 2.2, and 2.0(last season) and the same case with his K/9 of 6.3, 6.9, and a career worst 5.9 last season. I wouldn't necessarily call him better however he is fairly consistent from year to year. He has improved from his days with Atlanta but not so with the Dodgers.

Randy Johnson Trade to the Yankees

2004(Los Angeles) Home: 3.31 ERA(14 starts) Away: 3.21 ERA(17 starts) 2003(Los Angeles) Home: 2.73 ERA(10 starts) Away: 5.59 ERA(20 starts) 2002(Los Angeles) Home: 2.75 ERA(17 starts) Away: 3.31 ERA(15 starts) 2001(Atlanta) Home: 5.15 ERA(12 games, 9 starts) Away: 4.63 ERA(12 games, 7 starts) He was definitely aided by Dodger Stadium if he was putting up a 2.93 ERA in 41 career starts there. His career ERA in away games while with the Dodgers was 4.04 in 52 starts. That's a difference of 1.11 which is fairly significant.

    Dead Like Me Cancelled?

Ugh...is it just me or do stations seem to be really axe happy? This was a great show that would likely have gained more viewers next season but instead it gets axed because it wasn't getting ratings now. To replace it, they also have a show about a woman selling weed...*sigh*

MR Jamie Brown(5.87 ERA in 4 games for Boston) is expected to sign with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan. MR Mike Koplove(4.05 ERA in 76 games for Arizona) could be an additional player being sent to the Dodgers in the trade.

Matt Clements signs with the Red Sox!

Source Well, looks like the Red Sox just nabbed their #2 Starter. Definitely gives our rotation solid depth when you remember that Arroyo gave us #3 stuff last season and Wakefield can always be an efficient #4/#5 starter.

    And So it Begins

I wouldn't mind Theo signing Wade at all. Top 5 compared players are Orlando Hernandez, Jim Weaver, C.C. Sabathia, Roy Halladay, and Brad Penny which isn't a bad group to be in. He also made $3.40 Million last year so he likely wouldn't cost that much and could be a solid #5 starter for us after Schilling returns and Wakefield shifts to the bullpen.

Randy Johnson Trade to the Yankees

Ishii had 99 K's and 98 BB's(!!) in that number of IP which might explain it. Stuff = A rough indicator of the pitcher's overall dominance, based on normalized strikeout rates, walk rates, home run rates, runs allowed, and innings per game. Formula = EqK9 * 6 - 1.333 * (EqERA + PERA) - 3 * EqBB9 - 5 * EqHR9 -3 * MAX{6-IP/G),0 Comparing for last season. "10" is average and "0" is a replacement level pitcher. Credit BaseballProspectus for the numbers and formula. Yankees Randy Johnson: 45 Mike Mussina: 18 Carl Pavano: 13 Jaret Wright: 20 Kaz Ishii: -6 Total: 90 Red Sox Curt Schilling: 31 David Wells: 7 Matt Clement: 26 Bronson Arroyo: 19 Tim Wakefield: 5 Total: 88 Interesting to see that the Red Sox are only 2 points off despite having two pitchers that were very close to replacement level. The Yankees could always keep Kevin Brown (11) or Orlando Hernandez (26) in the rotation making their staff far more dangerous. Personally, I'd keep Hernandez in as #5 starter and put Ishii/Brown in the bullpen.

Florida Marlins signed MR Chad Bentz(5.86 ERA in 36 games for Montreal) to an MLC and invited him to spring training. Florida Marlins signed C Mike Difelice(.120/.214/.200 in 17 games between Detroit and Cubs) to an MLC and invited him to spring training. Florida Marlins signed SS Wilson Delgado(.292/.366/.385 in 42 games with the Mets) to an MLC and invited him to spring training. San Francisco Giants re-signed MR Jason Christiansen(4.50 ERA in 60 games) to a 1 year contract.

    And So it Begins

Renyel Pinto could also be an option for the back end of the rotation. 179 K vs 141.2 IP in AA last season at the age of 22. He does tend to walk his fair share of hitters though.

    Seattle signs Adrian Beltre

The Dodgers also have a slew of great pitching prospects. Guys like Chuck Tiffany, Chad Billingsley, and Ryan Ketchner who's already hit AAA at the age of 22 are just a few of the names. If anything, I'd put the Dodgers' minor league system in the top 5 with confidence.

Randy Johnson Trade to the Yankees

The Dodgers definitely got the best of this deal IMO. They managed to not only get an upgrade at SP in Vazquez over Penny but they also managed to get the #1(Duncan) and #5(Navarro) prospects in the Yankees farm system according to Baseball America. Navarro was also considered the top prospect in the organization last year too.
