Clerks 2 - The release date is almost here...
Golgo 13 replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
I was about to write this entire post with periods after each word, but thought better of it. Anyway, that was obviously directed at Mole, who made it seem as if it was intended. As long as the writing is there, much like the first movie which was strong and succeeded because of its script and not just a lucky, fluke coincidence, then who cares. I say that seeking to artificially and falsely recreate that accidental charm is just pandering and fanservice. This is all pointless anyway when things like charm and principle went out the window the minute he decided to make this, regardless of his intentions. He gave in and threw the fans a bone, but didn't go low-budget in regards to production and star power despite fans wanting to see a 'true' Clerks sequel. In fact, the movie almost mirrors Kevin Smith's own growth from indy to mainstream. Dante and Randall leave their old line of work, slaving away for the 'little man' and decide to work at a Mooby Burger, the very definition of corporations, big budgets and selling out, combined with Dante being intent on growing up and leaving his old world behind. Dante perhaps represents Smith himself, while Randall is Smith's fans, given his apparent misgivings on being left behind, maybe Jay and Silent Bob, as well, since they follow Dante there, even. In this way, the colorization makes sense and actually seems intended. If not for Randall, then for Dante leaving the dull world of convenience store life behind, making his way through the colorful world of Mooby Burger and then finally moving on, as the movie represents the parallels to Smith. I don't know if I'm giving Smith too much credit, however. In the end, perhaps in the movie as well, colorization, moving on, etc., isn't as bad as it all seems. -

It's not like the original is in black & white because of some vaunted artistic vision. It was cheap and a mere coincidence that it happened to work well within the movie, nothing more. There is no principle here. -
It's on my old computer. Somewhere on IGN also. The gist of it was me coming out after the main event and declaring how awesome and ready to take over the fed I was. Hindsight, etc. Just a typical n00b promo.

I personally use Media Player Classic (with the Matroska Pack, I think) for MKV and it works perfectly. My only recommendation is to try that and if you already are, I don't know what to tell you.

I forgot about Gantz. Haven't seen Blood+ yet. I guess Elfen Lied fits as long as we're broadening our definitions, but it's definitely polarizing.

I think the fact that the Wii is really nothing like a big all-in-one box with computer guts seemingly designed to push a proprietary format (Blu Ray) shows that Nintendo's focus is still on the games. All the control scheme does is offer a new way to play those games and while it's been the main selling point of the Wii thus far, it is rightfully so. Besides it's not like the games or at least those we've seen so far will rely exclusively on tilting the remote and what have you. Moving and activating other elements will still require button presses in most cases. So what if someone has to slash or shoot with the remote every now and then. Thinking about it is it really any different from the motions most of us make when heavily getting into a game? God, the above reeks of fanboyism. Still, you may as well give up on it now if you loathe the idea that much. A majority of Nintendo's games will probably adopt the scheme, first and third party alike and there's no telling if alternative layouts will be available.

Damaramu is pretty adamant about this despite never having tried it. I hope an innocent bystander never comes across him while he's posting and gets hit with angry midwestern white guy rage.

Boogiepop Phantom is the only one that comes to mind that hits close to Lain, Texhnolyze and Paranoia Agent. Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue is probably worth a look also, but it's only a movie, as well as Kakurenbo, which is only a half-hour. Though this list speaks to my own inexperience.

I just looked and apparently it got a folder roughly a month after its inception. Okay. Let's make UTSH wait.

I don't think it's him. I'd like to take back the sentiment expressed in this post now. I'm with you.

I'm gonna be egotistical and assume that's a reference to me going off the last time this was bought up, but I'm still not seeing it. Granted, if subfolders were abolished, a folder under Wrestling is better than not (along with a header change to Fighting and including Boxing just to be fair), but for the time being there's more of a case to be made for its inclusion in sports than not. We did the same thing for TNA, did we not? It was given a folder right off the bat when they were completely unproven. They had their weekly PPVs which about twelve people watched, which was better than any indy at the time, but for all anyone knew it wouldn't last two months and it nearly didn't. ECW has an actual TV deal in place, which is more than can be said for TNA when it first started. The only real issue at hand is its current designation as a WWE brand, which I think is nitpicking a bit, so if it can establish its own separate identity within the first few shows that is clearly not SD and Raw, then why not. Either way, creating a folder once ONS hits is way too soon.

Cromartie High School. I mentioned it once before. More subdued and deadpan than FLCL, Excel Saga, BoBoBo, etc., but the randomness and absurdity is intact and added in is the Azumanga-like HS setting and assorted parodies of the 'delinquint' genre. I can't recommend it enough. I thought Wolf's Rain blew. I hated the type of ending it got (as I usually do) and the road getting there was nothing special either. It was rather boring, the characters were largely insufferable throughout and the plot was as vague, incomprehensible and pretentious as possible for seemingly no other reason than to make it so and have it be classified as thought provoking. Visuals and the Yoko Kanno soundtrack are pluses.

Who cares its just a Clothesline! They're technically different and if it's good enough for Stan Hansen it's good enough for me.
-
God, I hate all the WWE subfolders some other sites have. I believe it restricts discussion and makes it a pain in general to navigate. Just make one for ECW and be done with it.

Lashley is black and uses the Dominator so he's Ahmed/Faarooq? He's closer to Brock with a bit of Goldberg than anyone else.

Yeah, EricMM. Your ignorant.

Rousseau. \/ Hostile simply means an enemy or antagonist. Someone in opposition. Once the Others' needs and desires clash with those of the survivors and they enact aggressive measures to see them through, that's what they become. I have a feeling that since the quarantine door has been exposed it'll start raise questions among the survivors, which is where Rousseau and Alex come in. I want some focus on Sullivan the Hypochondriac in this case. He's awesome. I don't buy that Others want good people. Yes, that's what they call themselves and that's who they say they want, but above all those people are USEFUL. Walt as a bargaining chip was successful in the end, turning Michael, in turn freeing Henry and helping to bring Sawyer, Jack and Kate to their camp. They'll hopefully get to answering them now that a number of the big questions have been dealt with. Until then stop being impatient.

Because PHF stinks. The anime rips are there in full (half-assed is more like it), but like a lot of their recent shows it's simply boring and literally sleep-inducing. They've somehow gotten it into their heads that deadpan dialogue and awkward pauses automatically equals comedy.

If the discharge didn't kill them (Charlie seemed to be okay despite being relatively close to it), then the Hatch collapsing and coming down all around them probably did. I'm hoping they're alive, since they're my three favorite characters on the island, but I would be surprised if all made it. I think Locke is most likely to survive with Desmond and Eko being crapshoots. Desmond said Kelvin died back when he was first introduced, but that's as far as he knows. There's a slim possibility he could have survived, but I doubt it. That's how you do a finale. I'm unsure of the outside influence this early on, maybe after next season would have been preferable, but it should at least shut people up about the last people on Earth theory. Outsiders probably won't be able to reach much less find the island until the season after next anyway. Yeah, Whit/Widmore or whatever his name is, is probably connected to Dharma, if only indirectly as a benefactor or something like that. The nods to other theories. Locke comparing the island being in a snowglobe (which they might as well be, given the island's properties). Sawyer theorizing about aliens. Cool. Glad they finished off Libby's story. Now we can be pretty sure of the reason she went insane (loses her husband, Desmond disappears). Maybe she thought she was bad luck ala Hurley. Satisfactory. And the goddamn four-toed statue. Another new question. Thankfully there are no shortage of questions like the still unrevealed monster (officially, anyway), Dharma's true face, Alvar Hanso himself. With the latest development there are still plenty of reveals left. I also doubt this'll be the last we see of Michael and Walt. I figure Henry wasn't telling them the whole truth about finding rescue and that they'll simply find their way back to the island. It just seems like Walt is too important to write off now.

Because he's not from there. Franklin Roberto is his real name but he's from the US.

The ineptness of civil service and how dreadfully awful these small dead-end towns really are. Like the fact that the City Council meets in a family-style chain restaurant. Tom is a miserable common man in this situation, nothing ever goes right for him and he tries too hard to better himself and find a way out only to make things worse. The Mayor is self-centered, blissfully ignorant and unaware of the needs of his town and people. Really just completely insane and totally unfit for public office. It's all right on the mark. Can it really be said that any of Adult Swim's shows go anywhere? Overlooking the obvious exceptions of shows that are more heavily plot driven. They make their living off of random wackyness and the non-sequitur. It's not as if TGTTM is somehow worse than ATHF, Sealab, for example, in that regard. I find that to be a misconception anyway. Though I missed a bit, the plot does develop each episode and reaches its conclusions at the end. Like I said, whatever shortcomings it may have, like the dull dialogue or the art style, it makes up for it somewhat. Tom dressed as an animatronic Hitler? Kids getting caught in bear traps? A midget Brian Posehn getting trapped in a well? It at least has moments like these from time to time.
