11. Freeway to the Canyon (new song - NOT sung by Ryan)19. You Don't See Me Crying (new song - also NOT sung by Ryan)
These songs are actually written/performed by lead guitarist Neal Casal. They've been setlist staples for awhile and are on his album No Wish to Reminisce which came out a year or two ago.
And yeah, the new songs are outstanding. "Cobwebs" might be one of the best things he's ever written, "Fix It" gives off a great Dead vibe, and "Magick" just fucking rocks.
I'm still insanely jealous, I have to wait another month to see them.

This makes Tina Fey's "I'm going to tell everyone I'm voting for Barack Obama, but actually vote for John McCain" line on 30 Rock all the more appropriate.

I just heard that the director of Lakeview Terrace is the same visionary behind the Wicker Man remake. This solidifies the movie as a future classic.
-
Whoah, has anyone heard Evil Urges by My Morning Jacket? What...the....fuck. They ruined the only really interesting thing about themselves on that one.Do elaborate.
-
The new Samuel L. Jackson movie Lakeview Terrace looks like our next great unintentional comedy. The preview was getting laughs throughout when it ran before both Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder.
"I'm the po-lice, you HAVE to do what I SAY!"

According to the comments on the video, $20 "Liberian tender" is all of about 31 cents American. That's outstanding. .999 Silver leaf.
"A silvery tribute to all who were lost on that tragic day."

This commercial is always on G4. Fucking hilarious.
"On the front, the frosted towers stand out against a mirror-like background, much as they did in the gleaming sunlight of that fateful morning"
-
I was thinking the exact same thing, although I can only recall seeing it for Pineapple Express. Good idea in theory, lousy execution.

Anyone else a fan of Flight of the Conchords? It really grew on me. The first few episodes I was watching just for the music videos, but the second half of the season was tremendous. Rhys Darby (Murray) and Kristen Schaal (Mel) were consistent scene-stealers throughout the season.

I think I'm going some time this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Stan Sitwell was in the movie. And if I hadn't heard Danny McBride speak in the commercials, I wouldn't have recognized him without the mustache. Guy was the best part of Hot Rod (and that is saying a lot).

Ryan Adams is coming to Syracuse but the tickets are $45 (after all the ticketmaster bullshit)...On the one hand, $45 friggin dollars for Ryan Adams?! But on the other hand, he's released four albums since the last time I've seen him in concert, two of which (Cold Roses, Easy Tiger) are among his best yet.
This is a tough, tough decision.
Completely worth it. You can actually download/stream his shows from earlier this year, because it'll probably be similar to those, with the possibility of some new stuff. He's a lot more laid back than he was years ago, and it's very likely you'll see a 15 minute "Easy Plateau" jam and random stage banter about robots and Diet Coke and Mariah Carey.

Hot on the heels of super-poducer Dr. Dre’s announcement that he’s issuing his own brand of headphone comes the news that the hip hop heavyweight will be endorsing a brand of Cognac.Yes, the first alcoholic drink from the Interscope Geffen A&M Records joint venture with beverage company Drinks Americas will be Aftermath Cognac, to be released this fall.
The production, supply and European distribution of the drink will be handled by Abecassis Cognac, a cognac producer. Following that, an 80-proof flavored and unflavored sparkling vodka will hit the market.
Last month the good Doctor told USA Today that the album would be out in "November or December," and according to the press release, the beverage will be introduced at the same time as Dr. Dre's long awaited Detox album and will be part of an integrated marketing plan surrounding the album.

I've probably finished Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for Game Boy more than any other game. Though most of the times I played it I ended up stealing the bow and arrow from the shop, which made every character call you Thief. Worth it.

"Hubba, hubba, hubba! Money, money, money! Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money. And where is the Batman? HE'S AT HOME WASHING HIS TIGHTS!"

Has Evil Urges by My Morning Jacket been mentioned? Killer album, though I think I still like Z better overall.
"Highly Suspicious" is the jam this summer, man.

I am a heron. I have a long neck and I pick fish out of the water w/ my beak. If you dont repost this comment on 10 other topics I will fly into your kitchen tonight and make a mess of your pots and pans.

Has anyone seen Poison and/or Dokken live recently? They're playing a show in Tampa in July and I think it has the potential to be one of the most surreal experiences of my life.

The more I read about this movie, the more it just sounds like manufactured indie-chic.Wow I did not expect this.
p.s. Loved the hamburger phone.

The digital cable channel Soapnet plays 2 hours of The OC every weekday, from 3-5. It's a damn good show, with great writing and enough to cater to a pretty broad demographic, which I guess explains its success (for the first season or two, at least).

eMusic offered me 75 downloads in addition to the 30 that come with the basic monthly subscription ($10), so I'm downloading heavily. I probably won't keep it after this month, though.

Got Youth in Revolt for Christmas and breezed through it in two days. Obviously I wish I had read it about 5 years ago, but I still loved it. Are the sequels any good?
-
Jason Bateman gave my favorite performance of the film, I think. Loved the chemistry between Michael Cera and Ellen Page. Some of the one-liners got a bit annoying but I adored the entire film.
Also, hello Velvet Underground and Belle & Sebastian and other members I didn't recognize from the great soundtrack.

I'm very excited for this movie, even if this thread's subtitle turned me off just a little bit.
Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Oh man. I feel okay downloading it because I'm getting it via iTunes and the limited edition vinyl.
It's driving me crazy that the official track name is "Sink Ships" instead of "Sinking Ships." What the fuck?
I love that they've finally managed to capture The Cardinals' live feel on a studio album. For months I've been listening to straight up bootlegs because they sound so much better. That'll be changing. "Magick" is INSANE. I can't pick a favorite track.
