  1. Ah, nevermind. This sounds much better. From the same source:

Well, contrary to what you may've heard, Aloma Wright won't be returning as Laverne's sister. In fact, the new character she's playing won't have any ties to Sacred Heart's dearly departed nurse. "She's coming back as a completely different character [that's] not related to Laverne in any way," reveals Scrubs boss Bill Lawrence. "And no one but J.D. sees the similarities. And he's incredulous that no one sees it." Bill adds that he hopes fans will give him "a pass" on this shark-jumpy development. "It's just that Aloma's such a nice woman. When I thought last year was the last year, we killed her. And then it looked like it suddenly might not be the last year and I didn't want to rewrite all of those scripts. So I told her, 'Look, if we come back, I'll put you back on the show.' I don't want to take away anybody's livelihood. It's too competitive a time out there. It's not 100 percent a creative decision as much as there's only one season left and I can't take her house payments away. She is a sweet lady."

  2. It was originally the Harvey scene. I think they took it out because it starts playing on the menu for disc 3. And it's also in the deleted scenes.

I do like the recut, combined version of that episode though. The thing about Pam winning the art show is really cute, especially when she brings up the picture on Google Image Search, clicks "see full-size image," and it's the exact same size.

Now that I've seen all the commentaries: "Safety Training" was far and away my favorite, while "Beach Games" and "TS/TR" were runners up. Most annoying commentators: Melora Hardin (of course) and Stanley the Manley, because all he did was narrate the scenes. What was the point of Krasinski being on them though? He hardly says anything.

I was sad to see they cut a lot of Ryan/Kelly stuff, especially because it's SO DAMN GOOD. The scene from "Benihana Christmas" (Don't dump me when I'm in the dumpster!) is amazing.

  3. Yeah, too much of a bummer.

Stuff I love on the DVD so far:

"Safety Training" and "Women's Appreciation" commentaries. The other ones I've heard, "The Coup" and "Initiation," weren't especially good.

The deleted scene from "Diwali" where Jan slips about Kelly being Muslim and backtracks like a mad woman. Amazing.

    The blooper reel. Obviously.

  4. After a big contract dispute with iTunes, NBC is now going to be putting its shows up for download on Amazon's Unbox: http://unbox.amazon.com. Still $1.99, though I and Mac users everywhere had a meltdown as I read:

Usage: Only available for US customers located in the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia. You can keep purchased videos on 2 PCs or TiVo DVRs and 2 portable video players at the same time.

System Requirements: Requires a Windows-based PC (XP or Vista) or a broadband-connected TiVo DVR (Series2 or Series3).

    Fuck, NBC.

  5. Well they were originally planned and written as one episode (notice they were both written by Michael Schur and Gene Stupnitsky & Lee Eisenberg and directed by Greg Daniels). And in an extremely short time span, if I remember correctly, because of the size of the season order; I think the hour was written over all of about 3 days, and that's quite amazing considering those two episodes are two of the best of the season.

  6. Ryan Adams songs:

    1. "Life is Beautiful" (Cold Roses)

    2. "I Taught Myself How to Grow Old" (Easy Tiger, but I prefer the live version)

    3. "My Winding Wheel" (Heartbreaker)

    4. "Magnolia Mountain" (Cold Roses)

    5. "La Cienga Just Smiled" (Gold)

    albums:

    1. Easy Tiger

    2. Cold Roses

    3. Gold

    4. Heartbreaker

    5. Jacksonville City Nights

  7. Finally saw it.

It is a classic. It's our generation's Fast Times. Fuck American Pie.

However, and I know I will be in an extreme minority, Hot Rod was funnier. Superbad had heart and shit, and taught you things about yourself, and was a better movie, but Hot Rod seriously almost killed me.

Samesies. Superbad will probably hold up better over time, but Hot Rod had more frequent and louder laughs from me because I wasn't expecting ANYTHING of what I saw. Plus, I have heard Superbad incessantly quoted over the last few weeks. It was still great though.

  8. Oh, this made me laugh. Found it at TVSquad.

Aloma Wright will return to the show this fall, even though her character, Nurse Roberts, was killed off earlier this season. It's part of a deal that she made with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence: if the show returned for another season, then she could return to the show as Roberts' twin sister Shirley. She'll wear a wig.

Lawrence wasn't sure if there would be another season of the show when he planned her death, but now that they are returning after all he's going to stick to the deal.

  9. They've finally released a list of the six episodes chosen by each show nominated for Best Series. The way this works is Each DVD contains two episodes (I would assume in the order they're listed), and every judge gets a random DVD from each series. I think the thing NBC's comedies ran into was that hour-long or supersized episodes had to count as two episodes since it's longer than the usual running time. Anyway:

  10. Another character actually dying would be overkill, IMO. That's why I didn't mind the phrasing "leaving Sacred Heart." Implying something better came along, which is actually realistic. And there's always the possibility of Kelso stepping down, but in season 5 didn't he say he was in his 50s? He looks a lot older but I'm pretty sure he said 57. Weird.
