What are the most gerrymandered/weirdest
teke184 replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
If you want to see a gerrymandered district, see if you can find the Louisiana 4th District from the mid-90s. It was shaped like a "Z" and stretched from Shreveport to Monroe to Baton Rouge to Bogalusa. It was around that time that Cleo Fields (D-Baton Rouge) began to be referred to as "Zorro" because the district was gerrymandered to give him a seat. As for William Jefferson's 2nd District, it's a tradeoff. The state would get sued if there was no majority black district, so William Jefferson gets an eternal seat because Orleans Parish itself has around the number of people needed for a Congressional district (roughly 700,000) and the city of New Orleans itself is like 90% black. (Most white people have moved to the suburbs in places such as Jefferson Parish and St. Bernard Parish.) -
The Cuban Missile Crisis was, arguably, caused by JFK halfassing Bay Of Pigs. If he'd gone the full nine yards for Bay Of Pigs, Castro would have been out of power and, therefore, there would have been no missiles. If he'd shut down Bay Of Pigs completely, he wouldn't have given the Russians and Cubans the excuse they needed to put the missiles in place.

Bored... these ratings are a bit weird. J-Hawk is 1-2 and yet he's still in the top 10. Strength of Schedule can't be playing THAT big a role, can it? Could you please give us some expanded rankings so that some of can figure out if we're getting boned by Strength of Schedule or if it's by poor scoring?

Virginia is a dark-horse pick to win the ACC and get into the Orange Bowl. This is because some sportswriters believe in the "five-loss theory", which says that a team that has five losses in the previous season will win the national championship. Examples of this include Ohio State in 2002, LSU in 2003, and Oklahoma in 2000.

When do we get the new Bullshit, er, I mean Bored Championship Series rankings?

Baton Rouge (formerly 504) to Hattiesburg, MS (601), back to Baton Rouge (now 225) That's 19 (5+10+4) to 17 (6+10+1) to 9 (2+2+5) (The (504) to (225) changeover happened around the same time I left for college.)

Pretty much... I know that MY portion of the country tends to get SEC games primarily and the non-SEC games tend to be with Notre Dame, Conference USA, the ACC, and the Big 10. I usually don't get squat from the Big 12 unless they're playing an OOC game or they're on ESPN.

Why should Bush owe Rather and CBS an exclusive interview that will sure to bring in plenty of viewers, ratings and ad money in prime time? Fuck them. If Rather wants to apologize he can do it without Bush giving them credibility, he owes them nothing. Hear hear. Rather's ruined his own career and, for the second time in his career, virtually handed a Bush the presidential election due to his own ineptness and stupidity. I'd say Bush is giving Dan Rather the message he deserves by going on Bill O'Reilly's show next week instead of giving Rather any attention.

Apparently most kickers are suffering from Wade Richey Disease... That's the ability to kick a 50 yard field goal without breaking a sweat but a total inability to hit a PAT to save their life. This is named after former LSU kicker Wade Richey, who went on to kick for the San Francisco 49ers. He's currently a kickoff specialist for the Baltimore Ravens.

No. These were docs CBS sent them months ago to comment on and the WH never got around to it. When they released more docs, these were included in them. -=Mike Months ago? AFAIK, they only sent them the files the day of the actual story and the White House didn't contest them because CBS said they were real.

Ol' Max doesn't like to talk about how his multiple amputations WEREN'T battle-related... Let's just say that if you're playing around with grenades, be sure to wait about 30 seconds or before trying to pick them up if you think there's a possibility that the pin may have come out of one.

Update: LSU lost but UCLA and Texas A&M won. In order to beat AoO, I need Tennessee to beat Florida (game tied at 21 right now) and Minnesota to beat Colorado State (Minnesota up 14-3 right now)

There's already another thread, which has been linked in one of these posts. Locking thread.

INT. Game set match Auburn.

OK, did ANYONE see that personal foul that gave Auburn the second PAT attempt? I didn't see it on the replay.

TD pass, WV wins in OT.

Georgia was SUPPOSED to be a Top 3 ball team because they went 11-1 in 2002 and like 10-3 in 2003. The problem is that they've been stricken with injuries and suspensions and, as a result, haven't jelled yet. If they don't jell by the time they face LSU, they're screwed.

The same Virginia Tech that's having trouble with Duke right now?

As the Commander in Chief (and if this story is true) then yes it is fault. Bush isn't the Second Coming, he does have his flaws, you know As Commander-in-Chief, he has to keep tabs on every piss-ant junior officer who talks shit like this to his men? Wow, the Presidential powers have really expanded... Well, since Rove has the same power as God, you'd think he'd know such things. -=Mike And you know that's true because Rove + r = Rover, which is the name of a dog, and dog spelled backwards is God...

Whether it was his fault or not, the war in Iraq was based on misinformation given to him. At best it's one of history's biggest "errors." EDIT: Main point is an error of this magnitutde disqualifies him from greatness immediately. It's an error right now... If it turns out that those WMDs ended up in Syria, it won't be an error anymore because Saddam moved them there right before the war.

Between AoO picking Boston College and hitting the combined-points tiebreaker on the head, I'm in a world of shit... I'm hoping that 4 out of the 5 remaining differing picks break my way or I'm screwed. I'd say that out of my 5 remaining picks, UCLA and Minnesota will probably win. The problem is that LSU/Auburn and Florida/Tennessee could break either way and I was uneasy about picking Texas A&M over Clemson, as both teams have underachieved so far this season.
-
My best guesses: 1. Fallout from the close and highly-charged 2000 election 2. Opposition to the Iraq war 3. General pissed-off attitude towards a Republican-controled House, Senate, and White House 4. Opposition to Bush's unabashedly Christian viewpoints and comments

Bush is now up by 2% in Minnesota, 48% to 46%, with 6% undecided. This is a Gallup poll and is based on likely voters.

Does that make Rather into Greedo?
