Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - The Bowls

Hrm... Figures. No matter what happens in the regular season, I end up putting up some of the best numbers year-in year-out during Bowl season. *nonchalantly points to mythical trophy for winning Bored's weighted Bowl Pick-Em last year*
  2. I just picked up the Simpsons: Season 9 set. Every time I buy one of these, I remember exactly why I stopped watching the goddamn show. Whenever something associated with the show doesn't work, it's never treated as the fault of anyone associated with the show... it's the fault of the fans for not liking their jokes or the DVD purists who aren't open to their flimsy plastic Simpsons heads box designs. Besides the fact that the episodes themselves are up-and-down in this season, the writers, show-runners, and so forth do commentaries in which they basically suck each others' dicks and complain about the people who say the show's gone downhill. I made the particular unfortunate mistake of listening to the commentary on The Principal And The Pauper, which had been voted "Worst episode of all-time" by quite a few Internet polls. The entire episode's commentary turned into a 22-minute bitch-session about how 99% of the fans turned on this particular episode and why the writers don't see what's so wrong with it. Their own interpretation of the episode is along the lines of "This is an allegory for the Internet Community of Simpsons fans. They like things just the way they are, down to the tiniest detail, and flip out when something changes." I'm not going to debate how true or untrue that stance is, but it still doesn't make it FUNNY, which is the goddamn point of the show and probably why so many people were upset. If you're going to do something abstract like that and screw with the norms, go out of the way to make sure it's funny. (Their subsequent comment of "Well, if you did this on the Brady Bunch, I'd see why you'd be upset. However, I don't think people see this show as the kind of creative sandbox like we do, where we should be able to do something like this." Translation- They feel the audience misunderstands them, rather than the other way around. That's fucking ass-backwards thinking that would have killed any other show that wasn't the flagship of their network, ESPECIALLY given Fox's history of premature cancellation of series like Firefly, Futurama, Family Guy (the first time), Alien Nation, and so forth.) The same deal was done the previous season in "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show" and the writers seemed oblivious to the fact that they were becoming what they were attempting (poorly) to parody, which was to throw in a plot device with no point and to sidetrack the entire story while doing it. I know that the average Simpsons fan on the 'net is tired of these kinds of debates, but I think this kind of stuff shows why one side feels the writers are STILL oblivious about what made the show good even 10 years later.

    This week in the NBA

Chris Paul left the NOK / Seattle game at the end of the 1st quarter with a sprained ankle and is doubtful to return. It's awfully easy to pick up an injury like that when you're in his situation, which is where you're carrying the weight of an entire team on your back.

    NFL Week 16

I said that because the Saints are an indoor team. It may be a mild winter, but the Saints played half their games at the Superdome and another few in the Georgia Dome, Texas Stadium, and other domes and/or mild-weather outdoor stadiums. Even if Chicago is only in the 40s or 50s, the simple fact that they'd be playing in an outdoor stadium on one of the Great Lakes will mean a lot of wind that they're not used to dealing with. It's not a fatal thing for their chances, but it means that their gameplan will be affected. They'd be less likely to throw bombs to Devery Henderson and more likely to ground out a running game or throw swing passes to Reggie Bush. (Not that Henderson was able to catch ones in the Dome last week either...)

    NFL Week 16

My opinion of today's Saints game- "It's preparation for a trip to Soldier Field." They're going to have to get things moving on the ground if they face the Bears, as the winds coming off Lake Michigan will help slow down Drew Brees. Dropped passes like that will happen in that potential matchup because the winds won't let Brees get the touch on the passes that he wants.

WOW. I knew that the WWE hired some dim-bulbs over the years, but Amy seems to take the cake.

The Hornets, while not done, are certainly in danger. The only way they can salvage things is if Bobby Jackson comes back ASAP and either David West or Peja comes back within a month. I think this is a better year for them to miss the playoffs anyway, as picking up a lottery choice in this draft is probably better than ensuring they end up picking at #17 or so after getting ass-raped by the Mavericks, Suns, or Spurs in the 1st round.
  9. The one thing he may be able to get her for is being libelous about his ability (and willingness) to pay bills. Things about him being scuzzy and cheating on past wives is part of the public record. Allegations against his business practices better have something to back it up or he WILL sue if he thinks he can either win or annoy the living shit out of her with the possibility of it going to court.

Carmelo getting more than Isiah, Nate Robinson, and Mardy Collins, the little bastard that started everything, doesn't sit right with me. Hell, Carmelo's suspension is almost more than the games the three of them got COMBINED (0 + 10 + 6). Between Isiah's post-game comments attempting to justify Collins' hard foul and the fact that Collins had done the same thing the night before against Indiana, those two should definitely have gotten more than they did.

Hey, don't give yourself too much credit... Exactly how many Knicks are even picked up in most fantasy leagues? The people getting fucked are ones like myself who have Carmelo and Camby.

    This week in the NBA

Oh please. Baseball has 8-9 of these a year. Football has about 100 mini ones. Hockey...well...yeah. Hell, Nascar has more fights. Basketball is the least fightingest sport that there is. It might be because none of them can fight and throw punches like girlscouts, but that not the subject at hand. *Fondly remembers old man Nolan Ryan kicking young Robin Ventura's ass circa 1992*

    NFL Week 15

Vick's 1 INT of the night was pretty damn costly, as it was taken back 50+ yards by Ware for a TD.

    NFL Week 15

Now, now, we can excuse that... I'm sure that ol' Bryant hasn't called an NFL game since the last time the 49ers won it all, which was when the Saints WERE in the West.

    NFL Week 15

I take it the NFL is under the impression that La Crosse-Eau Claire isn't Packer territory. Strong work, guys! At least you should be able to pick up 620. There could be a rash of TheMikeSC-appoved activities next Thursday night. Did they ever figure out if it's a 1:1 correlation between Packers games and ass-raping? </Refrains from making the outdated "Houston vs. Green Bay" joke>

    NFL Week 15

I'm in a ComCast area (Baton Rouge), so I doubt I'll be getting it anytime soon. The NFL's big pushes are to the larger markets with teams anyway, like NYC, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc.

    NFL Week 15

WTF, I knew the Cowboys secondary was weak but how the hell did Vick throw 4 TDs!?!?! At least 2 of them were short passes to the fullback. The other 2 were roughly 10 yards each to Michael Jenkins and Ashley Leile.
  21. teke184

    NFL Week 15

I think the ideal end result from the NFL's perspective is just to give themselves the entire TV contract, and cut the networks out completely. That only works if they can get cable companies to pony up for their network. As of now, that's not happening.
  22. teke184

    NFL Week 15

Gee... Vick's thrown 4 TDs, 2 of which were to the Fullback. You better send Sean Payton a Chrismas card, Ron Mexico.

    NFL Week 15

But it's a great new tradition! Thursday and Saturday night football! Coverage BY football people, FOR football people! Can we start a petition to make the NFL Network cover all Lions and Raiders games until they start winning?

That's a danger-sense, not ESP. It just means he won't get the shit knocked out of him from behind unless Venom does it.

    NFL Week 15

Tank Johnson's out Sunday. Combine that with Tommy Harris going on IR and you have a chance for Cadillac to actually get out of neutral and drive into the end zone. Granted, this IS Tampa Bay, though, so they'll probably find a way to fuck it up. Almost NOTHING has gone right for them this year.
