    2006 NFL Off-Season

More proof that Saban will take anybody if he thinks their talent may pan out. It worked out well for him at LSU when he would take guys with subpar grades like Chad Lavolais and turn them into big stars, but Marcus Vick has "PR disaster" written all over him because he's a goddamn idiot off of the gridiron. Should he screw this up, the only other teams that would touch him with a 10-foot pole would be Oakland and Atlanta, the former because Al Davis will take ANY piece of talent if he thinks it might benefit him and the latter because Michael Vick may be willing to use his stroke to help out his dumber brother.

    2006 Fall Line-Up Thread...

Well, f*ck ABC. Looks like I'm not watching them next year unless I *REALLY* get into Lost.

    2006 Fall Line-Up Thread...

Hrm... The only channel I'm awaiting news on is ABC, as I'm interested in seeing Invasion get renewed. The other stuff I watch is either already renewed / safe (24, Prison Break, American Dad, Family Guy), is on cable (The Shield, Rescue Me, South Park), or has already been cancelled (Alias).

    WWE PPV buyrate question

Theoretically true... However, the SEC is going to be more interested in OVERstatement of buys to puff the stock price rather than UNDERstatement due to internal politics. Also, keep in mind that the PPV buyrate formulas are notoriously imprecise, which is why some shows have shown massive gains suddenly because someone realized something wasn't being counted before. (I'm pretty sure KOTR 2001 and InVasion had far more buys show up over time than were initially predicted from the forecast off of the original estimates.)

Spring college football practices are starting...

It's dependant on what you're looking for... I think it's safe to say that the Big 12 has talent at the top with Texas and Oklahoma, but it's not particularly deep because the next tier of teams, like Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Texas Tech are so far behind. That still puts them ahead of the Big East and probably even with the PAC 10, but certainly behind the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC. The Big Ten, SEC, and ACC are three leagues in which most teams have a good shot at winning because (almost) everyone is so good. The Big Ten has Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa at the top constantly, although others like Northwestern and Illinois have won it in the past 10 years. The ACC, while traditionally Florida State and the 8 Dwarves, has been very competitive over the last few years with Clemson and Virginia Tech winning titles and many other schools being in the chase. The SEC has seen 5 of 6 teams win the SEC West in the 16 years of divisional history (only Ole Miss has yet to do so) and 3 teams of 6 win the SEC East (Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and South Carolina are the odd men out). The actual SEC title has been won by many teams over the last few years, with Georgia, Auburn, and LSU winning the past four between them and Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama winning further in the past. The weakest BCS league is unquestionably the Big East since they lost most of their big football schools, with only Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse left. Other teams like Rutgers, UConn and South Florida are trying to take up the slack but aren't taken seriously by most.

    WWE PPV buyrate question

There have been accusations made in the past that ECW One Night Stand actually got a higher number but that it wasn't being acknowledged for various reasons (lack of faith in the ECW product, loss of face caused by ECW possibly beating a stacked Vengenace show, etc.). I'm not saying that those allegations are true, but the WWE certainly went all out in promoting the Vengeance show in the weeks following ECW to avoid getting beat by the "competition", even if Vince owns them both. Look at that Vengeance card... Angle-HBK in a Wrestlemania rematch Cena vs. Jericho vs. Christian for the WWE title Batista vs. Triple H in a Hell In The Cell match for the World Title Keep in mind that this was only supposed to be a single-brand show, yet both titles were defended. If Vengeance DIDN'T come close to a Big 4 card, buyrate-wise, it would have been a big shock.

    2006 NFL Off-Season

The question is, like Joey Harrington, how much the team can afford to play a game of "chicken" with big money tied up in players they want to dump. That brings up another question... How does the NFL's salary cap cover released players? Does it only hit the team up for whatever guarantees are left on the player's contract at the time of release? IIRC, the NBA's salary cap won't allow a team to get salary cap relief by releasing a player, which is why so many teams trade for guys with large expiring contracts in order to free up their cap that offseason.

    The 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Peppers was a MAJOR project pick back in 2002, so passing on him at #1 was realistic. I thought the Panthers were crazy for taking him at #2, too, although it paid off well and helped get them in the Super Bowl within 3 years.

That's what's called a "ticky-tack" foul in basketball. It's a violation but it's kind of bullshit compared to more flagrant stuff. If it wasn't for the other potential violations getting press time right now, no one would know or care about that one.

    The 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Someone may bring him into camp as a project, but I don't see him getting signed barring an impressive performance that would justify putting on the roster and sending him to NFL Europe for experience. I think he's football's version of Randy Orton, who keeps doing stupid shit and pissing away potential well after people are ready to give up on him.

    The 2006 NFL Draft Thread

They will need to deal Deuce or Reggie next year cause no way Deuce takes a pay cut to share carries with Reggie. I really have no CLUE how they have any money left to field a team with this pick. Well they pick Reggie. ONE corner back. Not enough defensive positons filled, and then they draft wide receivers that we don't need, TWICE!!!! My only theory is they are totally blowing their wad on paying Reggie that they are signing crap to make up money. While they technically need WRs because they don't have any proven guys below Horn and Stallworth (Devery Henderson et all haven't panned out yet), they are REALLY ignoring some obvious problem areas on the roster. The biggest hole is at linebacker, but I think that may be because the new coach wants to sign a lot of his buddies from Dallas and that drafting a good LB in the 2nd or 4th may have made them cut Scott Fujita. They also need to bring in some better DTs because Jonathan Sullivan is a waste of space and money that will be lucky to be a BACKUP somewhere once his contract expires in a year or two.

You're also forgetting the opposing owner's immortal soul, which immediately put Washington out of the chase. Snyder's soul was sold a long time ago.

    The 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Supposedly the reason the Saints stuck with Bush at #2 was that no one gave them an offer worth considering. I'd have traded him to the Jets for the 4, 29, and a 3rd, ESPECIALLY if it meant I could get Brick, Mangold, and an LB.

When is Jason White giving back his Heisman? When it's proven he did something illegal and his records need to be erased for it. I'll give the punchline to this one... White didn't do anything illegal but WISHES he could erase the Big 12 title game and Sugar Bowl from his record.

The Chiefs have picked up Brodie Croyle. Not bad considering that Trent Green is getting older and Croyle only cost them a mid-3rd pick.
