At this rate, I think the Saints are contenders for the #1 pick. The problem is that, by the end of the year, Adrian McPherson will probably have Aaron Brooks job and Brooks will be traded for a star linebacker. If McPherson is working out, they may not decided to keep the #1 pick and then start fielding offers on it, such as for a lower pick and some defensive players.

Just like the real SEC, the Big South teams are highly ranked and will be beating each other up soon... My remaining schedule- Oklahoma (#3) South Carolina (#2) Florida (#1) Auburn (2-1) Connecticut (3-0) Texas A&M (#6) Alabama (2-1) Nebraska (1-2) Syracuse (#7)

Hell, I don't think Army's beaten a team who had defeated a ranked team in almost that long...

1. Because Rita is COMIN' RIGHT FOR US! In fact, it's supposed to be hitting Friday night / Saturday morning. 2. LSU already rescheduled ONE game already... the only way they could reschedule another would be if the SEC title game was pushed back a week

I need to clear off the ol' TiVo so I can capture the LSU-Tennessee game since I'll be there live. I'm hoping it'll be something I *want* to see again, unlike the godawful LSU-Alabama and LSU-Notre Dame games on ESPN from the Dinardo era.

It'll take a little time to flesh out a lot of the questions, but I think that Carolina's performance against the Pats may end up saying a lot about what the Saints did to them last week... On offense, the Saints were able to move the ball somewhat well and 1st round draft pick OT Jammal Brown was able to keep superstud DE Julian Peppers off of Aaron Books all day. That's pretty good when a rookie is able to keep the biggest defensive star in the league off of Mr. Butterfingers for a whole game. On defense, the Saints, who were pathetic last year, were able to make Jake Delhomme cough up several INTs. Considering that Mike McKenzie lead the team last year with about 6 for the year, despite playing only HALF THE SEASON there, the performance in that one game alone shows a step up. The question to me is whether the Saints D can give a "down home" welcome to Eli Manning and pull back a few more INTs for touchdowns. Considering that the Giants O-line is not exactly known for its strength, I'd say it's a distinct possibility that we'll see stud DEs Will Smith and Darren Howard up in Eli's face all night.

Texas Tech has the offense to pull it off, as that coach turns every QB out there into Johnny All-American under his system. Kinda like BYU, except they play in a (normally) good league instead of the old WAC. Whether they have the defense to give them that opportunity is ALWAYS the question with them.

BTW, Cabbageboy... Don't judge LSU's defense too much off of that ASU game. They just brought in a completely new coaching staff after Saban left last year and didn't get to have their tune-up game against North Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. I think that affords them a mulligan under the circumstances, but only for one game. If LSU's pass defense is like wet tissue paper against Tennessee, though, it may be a long season unless Miles puts up some gaudy Texas Tech offensive numbers to win games.

On the subject of who'll be the #2 in the Rose Bowl... I think you're all giving Texas a little too much credit right now. 1. Texas has a rep for blowing games when they absolutely shouldn't. While they didn't screw up against Michigan in last year's Rose Bowl or against Ohio State this year, they'll have one game that will either be a loss or WAY closer than it should be. 2. While the Big 12 has talent at the top, the talent level is very shallow across the whole league. Now that Oklahoma is in the shitter, that downgrades the quality of the remaining Big 12 teams considerably. Texas is the consensus #1 but teams such as Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa State, and (I can't believe I'm saying this) Baylor wouldn't be the #4 team in the ACC or SEC. As a comparison: Big 12: 1. Texas 2. Texas Tech 3. Texas A&M 4. Oklahoma ACC: 1. Virginia Tech 2. Florida State 3. Miami 4. Clemson 5. Boston College SEC: 1. LSU or Florida 2. Florida or LSU 3. Georgia 4. Tennessee 5. Alabama 6. Vanderbilt When the voters start taking a look at a lot of the teams that Texas played outside of Ohio State, it may be hard to justify keeping them as #2. Granted, this will require Virginia Tech, Florida, or LSU running the table to pull it off, which will be hard considering the regular-season schedules ALONE, not even counting the ACC and SEC title games.

I think I now know why the Charlotte fans told George Shinn where to stick it... The dickhead should have cut a deal with LSU to hold the games at the PMAC (Pete Maravich Assembly Center), which was the option at one time. As much of an asshole as Tom Benson is, he at least held off on moving the Saints completely to San Antonio, instead splitting time between there and Baton Rouge.
-
At least I didn't go down alone on THAT particular failed upset bid.
-
Clemson has the first down on, roughly, the Miami 15. They're moving pretty good, though, so they'll probably score in a second.
-
FG is good. Clemson has to keep Miami from scoring for the next 15 seconds.
-
Clemson has the ball deep in Miami territory, 2nd down and 10 to go with 26 seconds left. EDIT- 4th down. Clemson better kick the FG and go to overtime.
-
On the SEC front, perennial jobber Vanderbilt is kicking the shit out of Ole Miss, 17-3. Looks like the Commodores may be for real this year. 3 more wins after today and they go bowling for only the 3rd time in their history.
-
This is going to be an interesting week for me... I gotta have Wyoming beat Air Force, which is a toss-em IMHO, then I have to have Darth Visor and South Carolina beat Alabama or have Clemson beat Miami. Oh, BTW... TCU vs. Utah is tied up 17-17 and is going to OT.

Trophies won in Heisman or Dynasty are *separate* from trophies won in the Rivalry mode. To fill up the trophy cabinet from the main menu of the game, you have to play Rivalry games involving a trophy like Ole Miss vs. Miss State (Egg Bowl), LSU vs. Arkansas (Battle For The Boot), Auburn vs. Alabama (Iron Bowl), etc. If you win that game, you get to put that trophy in your cabinet.

I'm not panicing... I just don't particularly give a shit about the Big 12 as long as they're better than the Big East. As for K-State, there are down years and there are down years... They went from a BCS bowl to a 5-6 season last year which, while not unprecedented, does not happen often. The only other team I can think of to do that, offhand, is Illinois circa 2001-2002, when they went from Big Ten champs to the league doormat again in record time. Pitt may re-create that, though, if they keep getting their asses whipped like they did against Notre Dame and Ohio. BTW, I finally realized why Ohio was able to pull it off in that game and it's NOT 100% due to Pitt sucking... It's because former Nebraska coach Frank Solich took over the head coach position there. Considering that Ohio now has a competent coach, they may finally start living up to the REST of the recent MAC success stories like Northern Illinois, Miami of Ohio, Toledo, etc.
-
That's not saying a whole hell of a lot these days... The Big 12 North is the sorriest collective set of BCS conference teams this side of the Big East. K-State, Nebraska, and Colorado used to be the cream of the Big 12, but K-State's fallen hard ever since they made it to the Fiesta Bowl, Nebraska lost their aura after Osborne retired and their will to play after Solich was fired, and Colorado's been a sick national joke for the past few years. Missouri is a chronic underachiever. Iowa State and Kansas are perennial doormats. Things may change this year if Iowa State can keep it up, but I'm not expecting much from ANY Big 12 team outside of the state of Texas.

I think Parker and Stone are just pissed as fuck that MacFarlane gets away with the shit he gets away with and on prime time network TV no less while they are stuck on late night cable and Comedy Central still has their hands wrapped around Parker and Stone's throats when it comes to Parker pushing shit that crosses the line between funny and just plain vile and undefendable (IE Butters and his abusive parents, which led to CC permenantly banning one episode of South Park from ever being aired on TV again). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Would that happen to be the "Jared Has Aides" episodes? If so, I think that the Butters stuff isn't the ONLY reason that one can't be re-aired...

The article that makes that comment is indicative of a lot of the biases of the sports press... The reason it was the "best weekend of college football ever" was that one of the SI staffers got to go to Michigan-ND and Ohio State-Texas because of the staggered starting times and the fact that the games were in Ann Arbor and Columbus. Considering that three of the four teams involved are perenially overrated by the "establishment" sports press and Texas was ranked #2 going into the game, this IS the "establishment" sports press's idea of the best weekend ever... As in the fact that it didn't even touch on the crazy LSU-ASU game with all the Katrina background, the Northwestern vs. Northern Illinois and Marshall vs. Kansas State brainfarts, the dramatic Clemson vs. Maryland game, etc.
-
It's also somewhat official that this year's title game probably won't include a Big Ten team, barring a major string of upsets... Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa, the three favorites, all losing this week hurts the conference considerably. Purdue is the team most likely to come out of this unscathed, but the fact that their schedule does not include Michigan or Ohio State could hurt them in the SoS department when the pollsters rank them.
-
This week, I was just incredibly lucky... Kansas State, Oregon State, and LSU pulled out late wins, with K-State's win coming by Marshall's stupidity. Then again, it bit me in the ass when Northern Illinois blew an attempt for two rather than get the extra point and go to OT. This week's games were so messed up on all levels...

Movin' on up (movin' on up) To the top 10 (to the top 10) Gonna get a big piece of that BCS pi-i-i-ie...

The funny thing was, when I got online during the halftime of LSU-ASU, the splash-page for MSN said something like "In a ho-hum weekend of college football, Texas-Ohio State appears to be the one game worth watching." It wasn't like that was an afternoon game either... ND-Michigan was over by about 1:30 CST and Iowa State had kicked the shit out of Iowa by then.
