I think Coker's about ready to have a stroke after that bobbled snap...

L.A Lakers is just as bad as the Utah Jazz. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "And the Jazz moved to Utah, where they don't allow music..." - BASEketball narrator

The big reason behind the Roberts for Chief Justice change... Now that Rehnquist is dead, the job of presiding CJ goes to John Paul Stevens by seniority and Stevens is the leader of the Liberal bloc of the court. They don't want to give him (Stevens) more power than they have to.

Dear Michael Moore, Do you have any idea where all the Krispy Kreme donuts we were sending to the Gulf Coast are? They were last seen in your vicinity with several large cups of coffee.' If you want to point fingers, go down there and spend your OWN money on the effort. Signed, The citizens of Baton Rouge, LA

Rightly so in his case... Hear about the parallels he was attempting to make in one speech that were twisted into "Scalia advocates deviant sex / polygamy"?

Bickkity bam! Won all 4 of the games that differed from my opponent! Unfortunately, that means that it hurts my Strength Of Schedule.

BTW... Thanks to you and your fellow fans at UK, smitty. That took an absolute disaster of a game by Marcus Randall and made it a freakin' highlight of his career.
-
Ouch, some of these hurt... Specifically, Jimmy Williams is an old HS teammate of mine and Howard Green is an area native who played at LSU. Fred Booker played at LSU as well.

"Respected moderates"? Stevens is the HEAD of the Liberal bloc of the court. Kennedy, while a moderate, is not "respected" except by the Liberals. His esteem has been steadily going downhill since being appointed to the court, with some of his recent votes, including Kelo, being VERY questionable. Unless the Dems gain about 6-10 votes between now and the vote on the Chief Justice, neither would win because the 55 Republican Senators are enough to block either from getting voted in without special intervention by Bush.
-
Stevens or Kennedy? Riiight. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What part of "my money's on Scalia" did you not fucking understand? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ahem... FUCK YOU. My belief is that Stevens and Kennedy have ZERO chance of even getting nominated, let alone accepted. Even bringing them up is a waste of time because Stevens alone is supposed to be on death's door and looking to get off the court.

I believe it was Warren Earl Burger (Chief Justice before Rehnquist), in 1969 by President Nixon. Appointing someone directy to Chief Justice has actually been the norm throughout history, as if Wikipedia is to be believed, only 3 Justices (including Rehnquist) were promoted from Associate Justice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> While it's true in that sense, at least one of those promtions from outside went to Charles Evans Hughes, who had resigned his spot as an Associate Justice circa 1915 to run for President in 1916. Also, another of those Chief Justices was former President Taft, who had been a distinguished judge before being co-opted by his wife and Teddy Roosevelt into running for President in 1908. Taft had been offered a seat on the Supreme Court several times but had been forced by his wife to refuse it because she'd always wanted to be First Lady.
-
Either Warren Burger or Earl Warren. Not sure about Burger, but Warren was a HUGELY controversial figure throughout his tenure and beyond.
-
Stevens or Kennedy? Riiight. They'd be easier to confirm in theory due to Democrat crossover, but Stevens is pretty close to death's door and Kennedy has absolutely NO confidence in him from the Republican party who DO have a majority of the votes. If someone gets promoted from within, it'll be Scalia, Thomas, or nobody.

Bored, Who has the best percentage of picks so far? From what I can tell, J Hawk appears to be in the lead with 9 of the 11 games so far picked correctly. I'm somewhat close, as I have 7 of 11, as do several others on here.

The only reason I know is that I live in Baton Rouge, near SLU's Hammond campus, and my office includes a TON of Southeastern alums who were going crazy over football returning.

Well of course Mumme looked like a genius at Kentucky when he could cheat to get talent... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not thinking about the Tim Couch years there... I'm thinking of the hype he got because he and former Vandy coach Woody Widenhofer resurrected Southeastern Louisiana University's football program last year and put up I-AA's top offensive numbers.
-
In that case, I'm a HAPPY Teke... My SOS and % correct screwed me last year considering that I'd only lost 2 games all season.
-
Yeah, that Hal Mumme offense REALLY appears to be working at NMS so far... I know that UTEP is a very good mid-major, but I'd think that NMS could get ONE score on the board if Mumme is such a genius.

While we're waiting, any chance of you telling us more about the retooled BCS poll?

Clemson's about to try the FG with 6 seconds left. 42 yard FG hit by the kicker, Texas A&M ball with 2 seconds left.
-
LSU in da hizzy fo shizzy! 5/6 so far, although it's looking bad for Pitt, Auburn, and Texas A&M.

Sass, She was a BR cop. She got killed working an off-duty shift protecting a supermarket manager making a night deposit about 2 blocks from where I used to catch the bus to school.

Dunn throwing in doesn't surprise me at all... Due to the tragedies in his life, he's been VERY good about giving back to the community whenever he can. That's why he was named the Sports Humanitarian Of The Year recently.

Bored, No place in Louisiana is really feasable right now... The refugees from New Orleans are spread everywhere from Baton Rouge to Arkansas and Texas, which means every major city in Louisiana is not exactly capable of hosting a large football game anytime soon. With Tennessee, it would be easy enough for them to play us at Tennessee this year and to come to Death Valley next year, as we still have them on the schedule next year.
-
Last I've heard is that LSU *might not* play at home until November. The Arizona State game could end up being played in Tempe, as I don't think there's even space to put up the Arizona State team in Baton Rouge right now if they wanted to have the game here. The rest of their home games this year could get interesting, depending on the situation here in BR. My guess is that LSU plays AT Arizona State and AT Tennessee at the least. The rest of their home games don't appear to start until October, at which time it may be feasable to play in BR.
