More proof that people who don't know squat about certain comic books shouldn't be directing those movies. This just smacks of the cluelessness within the leaked Superman script that had shit like Lex Luthor also being an alien then getting into a huge wire-fu fight with Supes.

I'll do the comparison by each of the three 1994 "episodes" Part 1 is a very close version of Gatchaman episode 1, "Gatchaman Vs. Turtle King". There were some changes, but it was the same basic "Turtle mecha is destroying buildings to steal rare materials" story. Part 2 is about half-based on one of the early Red Impulse episodes but is mostly original material done in the Gatchaman style. Part 3 is a highly condensed version of the storyline that ended the original Gatchaman series. Some things were changed but everything done was in line with how the original series would have done it. The only disappointment I had with the 1994 series was that it was only 3 episodes when it could have easily stretched to twice that length. It felt like the jump between episode 2 and episode 3 was pretty abrupt and should have included at least one more episode to transition from "we're fighting but they're gaining ground" to "Oh F*CK, we're completely screwed..."

I've gotten this set, in addition to the 1994 remake and the Battle Of The Planets discs from Rhino, as I've been a huge BOTP fan since I was a kid. The new sets are a vast improvement over the original set of BOTP DVDs for a few reasons: 1. They have new English language tracks recorded for the DVDs that are from a good translation of the original Japanese. 2. They appear to have been remastered and are BEAUTIFUL. While I remember the BOTP discs' Gatchaman episodes looking much better than the corresponding BOTP episodes, I don't remember them looking this good. 3. This new series of Gatchaman DVDs will include episodes that were skipped for BOTP. These episodes WERE skipped on the BOTP DVDs as a result. 4. Compactness. The BOTP DVDs only had 2 distinct episodes per volume, as there were the BOTP version of both episodes, the Gatchaman versions of both episodes, and an Eagle Riders version of one of the episodes. The only downside is that the first few episodes of Gatchaman aren't some of the better ones. Things will pick up once the second wave of episodes are released, which should include episodes never commercially released in the US before, such as The Red Sand. In short, any fan of Gatchaman should pick up this set, although casual fans may want to wait until the next set.

Alright, then shouldn't this thread be titled "Early ONS purchase count in..." since the 800,000 figure represents actual buys, not the buyrate which reflects the number of buys compared to available homes? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> With the exception of Barely Legal, they probably topped out at a 0.2 or 0.3 buyrate. That translates to probably 100,000 buys. In short, I think ONS beat out every actual ECW PPV combined when it comes to overall buys. EDIT- According to the Wrestling Information Archive, every ECW PPV did between a 0.20 and a 0.26 *EXCEPT* Massacre On 34th Street (Dec. 3, 2000), which got a 0.98. That number seems WAY too high considering that ECW was falling apart by that point, so I'm going to consider it an outlyer in the dataset. Also, according to the same site, a 1.0 buyrate is considered to be roughly 400,000 buys in the past couple of year. This estimate does NOT apply to early WWF PPVs such as Wrestlemania 3, which had a 10.2, because the universe of cable subscribers was much smaller at that time.

This isn't exactly what you asked for, but here it is. In the past year, the average major non-Wrestlemania show got about 400,000-450,000 buys. The average single-brand PPV has gotten less than 300,000 buys, with Taboo Tuesday coming in below 200,000 for the lowest buyrate since the mid-90s. The last PPV that got above this mark was Wrestlemania 21, which had a record-setting 1 million buys IIRC. The last non-Wrestlemania PPV to get above this mark was, IIRC, Summerslam 2002, which was about equal to this show. The last PPV that was NOT one of the Big Five (Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Royal Rumble, King Of The Ring, Survivor Series) to get this kind of buyrate was InVasion back in 2001, which was the ONLY non-Wrestlemania, non-Summerslam show to get that kind of buyrate. Pretty much, this guarantees that there will be a second ECW PPV at the least. This also bolsters the chances of Paul E. and Tommy Dreamer convincing Vince to fund an ECW feeder league for the WWE, which would serve as the AAA ball-club of the developmental territories. (The new Atlanta territory is considered to be a step below Ohio Valley Wrestling, so it would be the A ball-club, while OVW would be the AA ball-club)

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, I didn't see that coming... I'm wondering how they'll explain that one to the captain.

Corrine asked Dutch if he was dating her to get back at Vic and, after a lot of hemming and hawwing, admitted he did at first. He claims he loves her now but she's extremely pissed at him for lying to her. (I think she's also pissed that Vic was right yet again.)

I think Army just signed his own death warrant...

When this little fucker ends up behind bars again, I'd like to think that Vince McMahon of all people would be able to sue Tate's lawyer for libel over the claims that Tate "accidentally" killed that 6-year old with a wrestling move. Excuse me for not being more sympathetic, but this case was turned into a public relations nightmare for the prosecutors, Governor Jeb Bush, and the wrestling industry as a whole because no one could grasp the concept that Tate may have *gasp* KILLED THAT GIRL IN COLD BLOOD. EDIT- Okay, maybe he wasn't caught doing something HORRIBLE but the fact that he was up to no good and caught with a concealed weapon should be enough to show that he wasn't an innocent like he was portrayed to be.

Was wondering why that person looked so familiar... I was wondering what happend to them after they wrote off an entire year of the show after her appearance at the end of season two. Given the "we caught the people responsible" line by Palmer's brother in season three, I figured she'd been picked up in the resulting investigation.

You just HAVE to love a game that says "Biiiiig motherf*cker!" every time you pick up the rocket launcher.

Despite the fact that the Liberals have stolen millions of dollars of our money. If you want the country to split up, then vote the Liberals back in. Kahran, Any interest in British Columbia and Alberta either going it alone or trying to become the 51st and 52nd states? I know Quebec would probably secede and then go it alone, as they were 49% in favor of it ten years ago without massive fraud being perpetrated by Ottowa on the province.
-
Having kept up with this, I'm not sure it's the beginning of the end quite yet. If the Liberals persist in their claims that they can ignore the no-confidence vote, this could either go away or we could start seeing some interesting political activity in Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and pretty much every province BUT Ontario.

My sentiments exactly. In addition, he's supposedly violated a clause of his contract by even riding a motorcycle, so there's a decent chance that he has to pay back part of his signing bonus (about $6 million).

According to Yahoo's TV schedule, it's getting bumped for back-to-back showings of Independance Day...

Here's a potential campaign slogan: "Vote for Evan Bayh... His father lost his Senate seat to Dan Quayle, you know!"

It wasn't meant to be funny... EricMM is acting like a retard by insisting that Mike has to bow down before him and admit that Global Warming is real. Just because this particular snapshot of time indicates more energy coming in than going out doesn't mean that massive changes in the ecosystems are happening anytime soon. It's still just a THEORY for now, not a law.

I think we're looking at too small a timescale to make definitive judgements. Hell, Lord Kelvin, a very famous physicist, had used the scientific knowledge of his time (circa late 1800s) to determine that the Earth was only 100,000 years old based on the theory that the Earth was slowly "cooling" over time. He'd used regression analysis, assuming that the rate of cooling was constant over time, to come up with the 100,000 year timespan. The problem, which he even acknowledged in his writings, was that some form of energy unknown at that time could invalidate his findings. That energy ended up being nuclear, which provides immense amounts of energy at relatively little cost to raw materials. In short, just because they think they've proven it now doesn't mean it's 100% right.

Prospective Saints lineup for 2005: QB Aaron Brooks RB Deuce McAllister FB Mike Karney WR Joe Horn WR Donte Stallworth TE Boo Williams LT Wayne Gandy LG Kendyl Jacox C LeCharles Bentley RG Jermaine Mayberry RT Jammal Brown The only changes are in the O-line. The addition of Brown and Mayberry should help Deuce break open the running game. That'll take pressure off of the butterfingers QB they kept. Boo Williams' position isn't necessarily safe, as the Saints have brought in Shad Meyer from Tennessee to fight for that spot against Williams, Lamont Hall, and Ernie Conwell. If the Saints go to a three-receiver set, don't be surprised to see former LSU standout Devery Henderson take some balls downtown for a TD. He only had 3 completions in last year's pre-season but averaged about 40 yards a touch. Defense- DE- Will Smith DT- Howard Green DT- Brian Young DE- Darren Howard LB- Sedrick Hodge LB- Courtney Watson LB- Derrick Rogers CB- Fakhir Brown CB- Mike McKenzie S-Dwight Smith S- Steve Gleason? This unit is still under construction but, by having a healthy Darren Howard and getting Mike McKenzie more experience in the Saints' system, things should be looking better than last year. Frankly, they couldn't get THAT much worse than last year. The front four will be pretty good, as Howard, Smith, and Green are all good at what they do. The backfield should be shaping up now that McKenzie is getting settled in. The real question is at linebacker, as they're thin there and have been unable to trade for a playmaker. (A busted attempt to trade Darren Howard to Dallas fell apart because Dallas didn't want to give up LB Dat Nguyen as part of the deal.) Overall, the offense should be better than last year and Aaron Brooks has no more excuses for bad play. The defense should be better than last year, but not great by any means.

The market on Heisman-winning QBs hasn't been particularly great for the past decade or so. The only Heisman QB to come out of school and get drafted high in recent memory is Carson Palmer and they intentionally sat him on the bench for a year to make sure he learned the Bungles' system. Other Heisman QBs to come out in the past 20 years were Danny Wuerfful, Eric Crouch, Chris Weinke, Charlie Ward, Gino Torreta, Ty Detmer, Andre Ware, Vinnie Testaverde, and Doug Flutie. Of those, very few are still in the league. Hell, Flutie and Testaverde are the only two I'm sure are STILL in the league and both have been fill-in QBs rather than true stars. Charlie Ward's off playing in the NBA, Andre Ware was a bust, Detmer's riding the pine in Atlanta, Wuerfful is either in NFL Europe or out of the league completely, Crouch publically quit last year when he got cut yet again, and Gino Torreta dropped off the face of the Earth. I think that Weinke is still with the Panthers but them drafting Louisville QB Stefan Lefors (who is related to current Panthers QB Jake Delhomme through marriage, BTW) means his days are numbered. In short, Heisman QBs generally haven't panned out in the NFL in recent memory, so it's not a huge surprise that no one wanted to plunk down a draft pick on White when they could possibly sign him as a free-agent with no risk.

The only way I see UMD taking off is if they can price the movies around the same price or less than the comparable DVD versions. Some of them are just ridiculous though... $25 for Kill Bill volume 1 on UMD vs. getting both volumes on DVD for the same price. Also, someone could buy the super-duper special edition of Pirates Of The Carribean for the same price as the UMD version.

OK, I think this Edge-Lita-Matt triangle deal has officially surpassed Raven's proposed "Se7en" storyline, which also involved a Matt-Lita breakup, in terms of fuckedupedness.
